WELCOME LETTER DIFFERENT FORECAST, DIFFERENT FOCUS I don’t know about you, but after nearly a decade of hand-wringing, it feels like the storm of uncertainty has died down a bit this year.

Sure, questions -- and at least one Supreme Court ruling -- remain but no matter what happens with King vs. Burwell in a couple of months, the exchanges aren’t going anywhere. (And we can argue about that this week if you want. You can find me on stage or in the exhibit hall).

Nearly all of the court cases have been settled. Most of the agonizingly protracted implementation staggered into play. The majority of the political poison watered down.

So, aside from the big question of next year’s “Cadillac Tax” (which I can just about promise you will never see the light of day), we all pretty much know where we stand. We might not like, but, for once, we know what tomorrow looks like.

And if you’re reading this, it means you’ve stuck around and are committed to this business. We are, too! That’s why this year, we’ve changed up the educational tracks to reflect a changed industry. We’ve added more content before the Expo even starts. And we’ve got no less than three political pundits this year to address the only real unknown left: who our next president might be, and what that could mean for all of us.

Every year’s Expo raises new issues, targets new questions and tackles new challenges. For years now, those have come at us from all sides. This year, I think they come from within.

PPACA’s Premium Structure – Forcing Shift to Online Enrollment ACA’s rate structure has turned online enrollment from an optional service to a requirement for insurance brokers. The new premium structure, which will apply to over 98% of groups in 2016, makes calculating rates much more difficult, and competition will force brokers to offer tools to their clients and employees to manage yearly age banded rates. This new system will also create a new market for voluntary worksite benefits.
