T

he Catskill Symphony Orchestra’s founding conductor, Chuck Schneider, died at home in Frankfort Friday, Oct. 9. He started with a splash – Dustin Hoffman narrated at the first concert in 1973 – and served the CSO for 45 years, retiring in 2018. t started when Denny Colgan was running for school board in Prescott, Ariz. He and Dan Buttermann’s dad, Kent, played in the Prescott Kiwanis Jug Band together, and the father agreed to be his friend’s campaign manager.
