Reception Set For New CCS Superintendent COOPERSTOWN

reception to welcome Cooperstown Central School’s new superintendent, William Crankshaw, is planned 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at CCS Middle/High School. Dr. Crankshaw, former Remsen Central superintendent, arrived on campus Tuesday, Jan. 3, the first day of classes after the winter break. Parents and community members are welcome. FENCE APPROVED: The village Zoning Boarrd of Appeals Tuesday, Jan. 3, approved a 6-foot fence on John Sansevere’s at 76 Chestnut St., and allowed Marge and Ed Landers to rent out three, one-bedroom transient apartments at 8 Glen, up from two one-bedroom apartments. LOTSA PLASTIC: Over its 50 years in existence, the OCCA has caused 20 tons of agricultural plastic to be recycled, and cleared 4,500 square feet of invasive Japanese knotweed at Mohican Farm, according to its endof-year fundraising letter.

t 3:27 a.m. on New Year’s Day, a call from Southside Oneonta came into the Otsego County 911 Center. “I’ve done something bad and I don’t want to run,” the caller, who identified himself as Joshua Underwood, 25, told the dispatcher. Oneonta Police were quickly dispatched to the scene, and at 3:44 a.m. Sgt. Eric Berger, with several officers in tow, pulled up at the Mirabito on Route 23, where the call had originated. Underwood “stepped out of the building and dropped to his knees with his hands in the air,” said Lt. Doug Brenner. “He said he believed he had killed his friend and he wanted to turn himself in.”
