Jordanville teen drowned in Canadarago Lake Monday evening, June 18, when his kayak capsized in a storm. Dustin Groat, 19, and another teenager were kayaking to Deowongo Island at 7:30 p.m. when the storm approached, state police report. On returning to the state Boat Launch, Groat’s craft capsized, and the other teen was unable to find him. Because of rough water, the state police Underwater Recovery Team was unable to begin a search until 1 a.m., finding Groat in 23 feet of water at 4:25 a.m. He had not been wearing a life vest.
