etired state trooper Bob Fernandez plans to force a primary Sept. 19 to take the Republican nomination away from county Sheriff Richard J. Devlin Jr. Devlin was endorsed by the Republican County Committee when it met March 4 in Milford. Fernandez, spouse of county Rep. heers and the smell of Brooks BBQ chicken filled the air as top executives from Farm Credit East cut the ribbon Friday, April 27, on the new 40-job regional offices, across Route 80 from the Otsego Golf Course. “I know you would all rather be in the fields, but thank you for coming out,” remarked Robert Yurkewecz, vice president of a company that provides specialized banking and insurance services to farmers. “This is all for you. You’re the customer.” “I’m quite sure I could borrow a lot of money in that building,” said state Ag & Markets Commissioner Richard Ball, owner of Schoharie Farms and the Carrot Barn. “We know our industry is facing challenges, but it’s always a good day in New York when we can celebrate success.
