ewcomers Amy Burnsworth and Daniel Butterman were elected to the Oneonta City School Board Tuesday, May 20. Darren Gaisford was elected to another term. The totals were Burnsworth, 472; Butterman, 444; Gaisford, 414; Karen Brown, 382; George Palladino, 269, and Evelina Richardson, 123. The $35 million 2014-15 school budget passed overwhelmingly, 657-158, and a bus purchase was approved, 657-154. or those who feel helpless and trapped by a family member who drinks too much, Saturday, June 7, will offer a safe space and a free lunch. The Oneonta chapter of Al-Anon will sponsor a “Day of Sharing� at the Elm Park United Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. “The purpose is to share our experience, our strength and our hope,� said Dick, a 20-year member who is helping to organize the program, set for noon to 5 p.m. Al-Anon was formed in 1951 to provide fellowship for families and friends of alcoholics. “A lot of people may not realize that their lives are being affected by someone else’s drinking, said Susan, another member. “We admit that we’re powerless over alcohol, but we can concentrate on ourselves and the whole family dynamic.� This especially rang true for Susan, who joined to help cope with her spouse’s drinking only to realize, after hearing other people’s stories, she Please See AL-ANON, B4

hen 20 of the Tri-County Young Professionals group gathered at Stella Luna Ristorante on Monday, May 19, they brought with them a career or personal chal-
lenge. When they left, they had solutions. Rhonda Morton, founder of Savannah Consulting, Corning, led a workshop, “Why Smart People Don’t Change and How to Use BrainBody-Behavior Tools to Blast Thru Barriers.� “I only work with smart people,� she said. “I want
