ationally, Earth Day 2015 isn’t celebrated until Wednesday, April 22, but you can get a head start locally with exhibits, workshops, vendors, food and entertainment, all with a fun, earth-friendly twist at OCCA’s annual fair, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

or the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church’s congregation, there’s more to worship than hymns and a sermon. “It’s a Christian function to take care of the Earth that God has given us,” said Karen Mihan, head of the Environmental Stewardship Team. For the last two years, the church has been an “Earth Care” congregation, a designation given by the Presbyterian Church USA to churches who focus on environmental stewardship in worship, education facilities and outreach.

Only 10 churches in New York State are named Earth Care congregations, the closest being in Syracuse. The progression started with at 2012 resolution against fracking. “We’re supposed to be good stewards, taking care of what has been given to us,” said Richard Blabey, a church elder.
