Letter From the Editor Hey Key Clubbers! I hope you are all staying safe if you are quarantining in your house or if you are still in school. If you have not done so already please watch the first meeting so that you can get even more information and keep up to date with what’s going on in the club. You will also get much needed points from watching the video. Another way to earn points is to write an article for the newsletter. So if you ever need some extra points just email me your article and it will be featured on the following months newsletter.

Stay safe! Allison Wong The Trojan Talk | Page 2

Message from the President

Fall is here! As we gear up for fall break, midterms, college applications, football, and more, life can get overwhelming quickly. Key Club is here to help! Our new board is here to bring you volunteer opportunities with the greatest efficiency we can during a stressful time. To meet our new board and how you can get involved in Key Club’s many projects, make sure to attend the October 8th meeting which will be posted on canvas. Our first meeting was held through EdPuzzle, and we have worked to ensure that the next meeting won’t run into the technical difficulties of the first. Remember that when you join the EdPuzzle class, you have to make your ‘nickname” you first and last name followed by your ID number. That way, we can record your attendance and give you your points. We are also planning our annual Halloween movie-watching social for Wednesday on the 28th. Additionally, stay tuned this October to get information about our annual UNICEF Trick-or-Treat fundraiser. This September has been a great first month of Key Club with our first meetings and board selections. Let’s keep the momentum going this October! Have a wonderful October, Salma Waheed Key Club President

What I'm Looking Forward to This Year By Moe Hom

For key Club 20-21 school year, I look forward to seeing our new Key Club t-shirt, key Club socials, meetings, and above all volunteering opportunities. I look forward to this the most because not only do I get to help others, I also get volunteering hours. I love meetings new people and working with them. I can be hard to find time to volunteer with our busy lives, but I believe dedicating your time as a volunteer will also help you in many ways. Volunteering connects you to others. I allows you to connect with your community and make it a better place. Volunteering will help others and will also help you. It can help you make new friends and boost your social skills. For so many good reasons, I liked to volunteer and I look forward to this year;s volunteering opportunities. The Trojan Talk | Page 4

Communication Through Social Media By Allison Wong

Due to the pandemic it has been harder to communicate with the whole club. Figuring out how to conduct our club meetings has been especially a challenge. We have resorted to using the school announcements, website, and our social media to get the information out to the club members. There are challenges with using such means of communication. For example not every member follows our instagram, reads the website, or pays attention to the announcements. The streamline of communication is now gone and we have had to figure out ways to better serve our members. The officers have been brainstorming many ideas of the most effective way to run our meeting and socials while still maintaining social distancing. We have many ideas in place such as playing online games as a social, and using a prerecorded Edpuzzle video for our meeting. While there is a struggle with getting communication out to the rest of the club social media has definitely made it easier whether it is a Instagram or Facebook post, to our website, or even Edpuzzle.

Changes Within the Club

By Salma Waheed

This year has been one that has been unpredictable and challenging, but Jenks Key Club is not one to back down. To adapt to these challenges, we are planning to implement many changes in our club, from point values to new special projects. The first major change we are making has to do with point values. The pandemic has made it very difficult for our members to find and safely participate in volunteer activities, so we have decided to change point values for this year. We increased the number of points members can get from meetings, socials, and volunteer hours to adjust for the pandemic. Combined with meeting and social attendance, members will only need three service hours a year. Secondly, we are shifting our volunteer opportunities to be more donation-based instead of action-based to reduce close contact during volunteering. This means more cards, food/clothing drives, etc. We are also focusing on virtual tutoring, mask making, etc. for members who want to volunteer remotely. Part of our effort to reduce close contact between members is the new way meetings are being held. Key Club has created an EdPuzzle class where members can access a pre-recorded meeting video with all the information and announcements they will need for that month. Socials will also be held online, most likely through zoom. There are also ideas for mask-making socials, or at least a volunteer opportunity where members can make and donate masks. Despite these changes, Key Club will continue to act as the largest and most reliable source of volunteer opportunities for our members. We will continue to be a welcoming place for all students to participate. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how Key Club can improve or adapt this year, please contact the officers!
