01 MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS INC

ROLE | LEAD DESIGNER

End Users Critical Communication Engineers

Look & Feel | Futuristic Florida

Plantation, FL 90,000 SF

NARRATIVE

Motorola Solutions Inc (MSI) designs and builds critical communication devices and networks. The historic Plantation, FL lab and team required a new ground-up building, custom tailored to their needs and design aesthetic. Leading the design services, I envisioned a space that reflects MSI’s highly innovative, ever-evolving technology, while mixing in Florida’s local textures and color palette. The strategy was to designate perimeter office, conference, and lab spaces “bright & tropical” and the core elevator lobby, coffee bar, and copy/print spaces as “sleek & high contrast.” Lighting also played a major role to ensure the desired mood while still achieving required light levels for the engineers device testing.

02 PRU PLAZA AMENITY FLOOR

ROLE | LEAD DESIGNER

End Users Multi-Tenant Top Talent: Fortune 500 companies to Boutique Brands

Look & Feel | Dynamic Dualism within Hospitality-inspired spaces

Pru Plaza, the prominent two-skyscraper development in the heart of the East loop, underwent a dramatic revitilazation effort. Reimagining the landmark’s amenity floor by creating a “link” between the buildings, connecting them for optimial access to the amenities. The edgy, expanded lounge, fitness center with Wilson-branded golf simulator space, and lockers for 1Pru, would be complimented by 2Pru’s sophisticated pre-function, conference center, and co-working spaces. The melding of each building’s style was critical. The intentional use of two-toned woods and mixed metals allow for a yin and yang effect, mimicking the buildings’ relationship to each other. Dense furniture and varied lighting give a hospitality feel for the new wave of Chicago’s thought-leading companies.

Yin: Moody & Grounded

Dark hues from the ceiling and bar offer a dramatic ambience. The dense furniture groupings create an intimate atmosphere for conversation or relaxation. Rich textures evoke feelings of comfort and familiarity, leading the user to linger.

1) RENDERING MAIN LOUNGE

Anchor Tenant: Wilson

Integral to the building, ownership prioritized a key anchor tenant, Wilson Sporting Goods, in several areas of the new amenities. The new golf simulator space will have custom, Wilson-branded casework displays, and a golf club fitting area for users to schedule a private lesson and build specialty clubs.

Yang: Luminous & Active

A sense of luxury and warmth invite the user into the more polished space. Walnut detailing lines the walls, encasing curated art and books. The light-filled ceiling and colorful furniture offer a playful sophistication for a multifunctional space.

To create a lasting impression, a custom laser-cut, bronze ceiling elevates the elevator lobby. Softly highlighted by cove lighting, it visually guides the user to the brand new amenity space.

03 CODINA PARTNERS

ROLE | LEAD DESIGNER

End Users Commercial Real-Estate Developer

Look & Feel | Refined Elegance

Doral, FL | 15,000 SF NARRATIVE

Codina Partners is a real estate investment and development firm driving the transformation of South Florida’s communities into more vital, prosperous centers for living, working, culture and commerce. Appealing to their high-profile clientele, Codina strived to elevate their most centrally-located building in Doral, FL and transform it into an elegant, fresh atmosphere. I reimagined the main lobby as an architectural statement, to inspire end-users. Around the corner, an exclusive amenity center awaits, complete with a coffee bar, lounge space, and confernce center. Through the use of earth tones, rich wood, and layered textures, the building feels rejuvinized.

Architectural Statement

The custom, backlit walnut slats create a seamless portal announcing the entry. The wood feature spanning 14’-0” high, combined with bronze detailing and granite slab flooring, allow the property to exude sleek sophistication.

04 GRUMMAN BUTKUS ASSOCIATES

Grumman Butkus Associate leadership was beginning to transfer ownership to the next generation. An office upgrade effort was then initiated to increase overall employee attendance, retention, and recruitement. The energy-conscious engineers saught a “third place,” where employees can regularly gather, fostering a sense of connection and community. Custom crafted bookshelves flanking their 2-story atrium create a hub for team collaboration and socialization. Acoustic panels along the atrium walls absorb sound, allowing end-users to enjoy the newly refreshed amenities. Carefuly selected furnishings, and finishes bring warmth and character while addressing GBA’s sustainability initiatives.

05 ARENANET HQ

ArenaNet recently acquired another floor in their existing building and hoped to provide a respite from the employees’s overstimulating daily work of designing and editing their popular video games. All main spaces on this floor were set to simulate a breath of fresh air. Between the reflection pods, zen garden below the new integrated stair, and relaxation room, this new floor captured a natural escape. Hand drawn renderings demonstrate the thoughtful approach behind this design and the deliberate selection of materials enhance the users’s experience.

Reflection Zone

Off the beaten path, a reflection zone offers endusers space to seek respite before hopping into a meeting room or local collaboration space.
