Dallas and Fort Worth have joined forces to present a joint exhibition of the work of artist David Bates organized by Dr. Marla Price, director of the Modern, and Jeremy Strick, director of the Nasher. This exhibition includes approximately 45 paintings on view in Fort Worth, and 45 sculptures and 20 related paintings and drawings on view in Dallas. David Bates was born in Dallas in 1952, studied art at Southern Methodist University, and continues to live here today.

While his works are widely collected, he is also a much-loved fixture of the local art scene. Bates’ pieces can be found in many of the finest homes in Dallas and Fort Worth. Talley Dunn Gallery, a next-door neighbor of the Allie Beth Allman & Associates offices on Tracy Street, is the exclusive Texas representative of David Bates.

In a career spanning more than 40 years, Bates has combined exquisite technique with a deep understanding of American modernist traditions, resulting in a sophisticated, soulful and accessible body of work.
