Alexandria / Nr. Alex Hospital Office Claude Bernard, OTR/L Claude Bernard graduated from Howard University with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013. Prior to earning his masters, he received an Athletic Training degree at Methodist University in 2011. He has gained valuable clinical experience in a variety of settings which include inpatient rehab, acute care, SNIF, mental health hospital, and sports injuries. Upon completion of OT school, he worked alongside his mentor/doctor’s hand therapy clinic where he developed skills in hand therapy, lymphedema therapy, and pediatric therapy. Working at the hand therapy clinic he has developed the skill to combine comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb with function and activity using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment. His passion has always been with the intricate knowledge and specialization of hand therapy. In his free time, Claude enjoys playing basketball, fitness, traveling, and spending time with family.

Kalkidan Getahun, DPT Kalkidan Getahun, DPT was born and raised in Ethiopia until the age of 15. Besides English, she is fluent in the language of Amharic, her native language in Ethiopia. Kalkidan earned her bachelor degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia in 2006. Between 2006-2009, she worked for a non-profit organization creating after school programs for Alexandria City school children between the ages of 3-11. In 2012, she earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Howard University. Kalkidan has been a member of the Alliance Rehab team in Alexandria since October, 2012 and enjoys working with patients suffering from orthopedic and neurological conditions. In her spare time, Kalkidan enjoys reading, spending time with family, swimming, and watching sports.

She joined Alliance at the Alexandria office as a Physical Therapist trainee in the year 2011. She is currently working as a Physical Therapist Assistant pending her Physical Therapy license. She enjoys working with neurology and orthopedic conditions. Patients appreciate her good humor and friendliness while she focuses on their rehabilitation. Gina Porter, OTR/L, Hand Therapist Specialist Gina Porter has 26 years of experience as a Hand Specialist. In 1987, she graduated with honors in Occupational Therapy from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, Indiana. Since then she has worked in a wide variety of clinical settings including outpatient, in-patient, and home health care. Gina is experienced in a broad spectrum of Upper Extremity diagnoses and is particularly skilled in splinting and innovative modalities. While she has also served as the Director of Occupational Therapy at an outpatient rehabilitation center, she finds her passion is in direct patient care and interaction. Before moving to Northern Virginia she worked closely with a orthopedic hand surgeon performing preventative and post surgical therapies. Gina’s interests outside of patient care include hiking, biking, backpacking and other outdoor pursuits. She is also enjoys cooking, travelling, and spending time with her family.

Rimjhim Sharan, PT, MS Rimjhim earned her degree in Physical Therapy from Manipal University, India. After graduating in 2007, she worked at Fortis Hospital in Mumbai and her clinical experience included in-patient and out-patient orthopedic, cardio-pulmonary, and neuro rehabilitation. Thereafter, Rimjhim pursued her Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology at The George Washington University.

During graduate school, she completed her internships in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation at Inova Health System hospitals.

Rimjhim joined Alliance in 2011 upon graduation. Rimjhim is dedicated to providing quality care through individualized approach.

She helps patients succeed by providing functional strengthening and therapeutic exercises combined with manual therapy. She incorporates Kinesiotaping, Muscle Energy techniques, myofascial release, PNF techniques while treating her diverse patient population including patients with sports injuries, post operative conditions, bio-mechanical and movement dysfunctions, balance and vestibular disorders. When not working, Rimjhim loves spending time with her husband, her friends and loves swimming, dancing, and watching movies.

Melissa Weaver, PT Melissa Weaver graduated with a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from Quezon City, Philippines. Her internship experience during her time at the university focused on various degrees of stroke rehab and orthopedic conditions among other diagnoses.

She joined Alliance Physical Therapy in the fall of 2012 as a Physical Therapy Tech which involved guiding patients through their therapeutic exercises. She has since gone on to receive her Virginia Physical Therapist license. Melissa teaches patients strategies to help themselves recover and manage their conditions independently. She hones her skills by continuously seeking out techniques and information from notable clinicians in the field of physical rehab and sports.

Alexandria / Mt. Vernon Office Margaret Eves, LPTA Margaret received her undergraduate degree in Biology/Psychology from Mary Baldwin College in 2006. To further her career in the medical field, she received her Associates of Applied Science degree for Physical Therapy Assistant from Northern Virginia Community College in May 2013. She was licensed by the Board of Physical Therapy in July of 2013. Margaret enjoys working with many orthopedic conditions, neurological conditions and athletes. She is continuing her education by taking continuing education classes that focus on neurological conditions and manual techniques. Margaret has played competitive soccer since the age of 5 years old and she enjoys outdoor activities, walking, biking, going to the gym and spending time with her family and friends. Kandice has been practicing physical therapy in Virginia for over eight years. She has taken several continuing education courses to enhance her manual therapy skills and to diversify functional therapeutic exercises in order to individualize her patient's treatment program. She especially enjoys treating pre/post-operative patients and athletic injuries of the shoulder, spine, knee and foot. Kandice takes a biomechanical approach to treatment, assessing other related joints to determine possible underlying factors that may be contributing to the current complaint.

Kandice's interest in physical therapy began at an early age as she was a competitive gymnast and basketball player. While no longer playing sports at a competitive level, she takes pleasure in weight training, pilates, yoga and running. Kandice speaks Spanish and thoroughly enjoys learning about other cultures.

Benjamin Pettit, LPTA Ben graduated in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Ben enjoys finding new and creating functional therapeutic exercises to help all his patients of all skills, sports and life. He continues working on improving all his manual therapy skills though continuing education courses, to better treat and progress his patients. For the last 4 years Ben has been in the top 50 and above fundraiser for The Bike MS society and this year 2012 bike his first 100 mile bike ride. In his free time Ben and his wife enjoy biking, hiking, fly fishing, camping, traveling, and playing in bands, photography and playing with their lovely dog.

Colonial Heights / Richmond Area Office Frank Ivan, PT, DPT Frank graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 2010 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. He has completed continuing education courses in the McKenzie Method and kinesiotaping and uses these skills to treat a variety of orthopedic disorders.

Frank enjoys running, rock climbing and mountain biking in his free time.

Fairfax Office Diedre Falls, OTR/L A graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical College in 1987, Diedre went on to receiving her Hand Therapy Certification (CHT) in 1991. Her vast experience has been in both the inpatient and out patient settings throughout the Northern Virginia area. Her most recent experience includes working directly with 2 local Hand surgeons. Her passion lies in patient care. Diedre enjoys treating all upper extremity conditions as well as post operative cases. She has managed many complex hand injuries. Diedre’s is also a yoga instructor, which allows her to create the ideal rehabilitative environment. She is currently treating patients in our Fairfax Office.

Daniel Miles, DPT Dan is a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Buffalo. Dan is furthuring his education in the field of Physical Therapy by taking classes to receive a certification in orthopedic manual therapy. He has played competitive Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Track and Field and has a special interest in sports injuries. Dan has an interest in teaching as well and has had several PT trainees and PTA trainees. Dan is also the Clinical Director for the Fairfax office.

Joyce Myers, LPTA Physical Therapy is Joyce's second career that started in 1996, when she graduated from Northern Virginia Community College as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Over the years, her degree has taken her to working in Home Health Care settings, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Long term and Intensive Care Physical Therapy in hospitals, Fairfax County Schools where she treated children with disabilities, and Sheltered Workshops where she worked with adults with multiple challenges. Danielle Leber, DPT Danielle Leber graduated in 2012 from Wheeling Jesuit University earning a Doctorate in Physical Therapy with honors. She continued her education in physical therapy by becoming certified in Kinesio Taping, which she incorporates into the treatment of patients when necessary. Her undergraduate work was completed at Campbell University where she graduated Summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in Accounting. While at Campbell, Danielle was on the varsity swim team where she excelled as a Student Athlete in a NCAA Division I program. She continues to be involved in swimming by coaching in the Northern Virginia Swim League and teaching swimming lessons for the Fairfax County Park Authority. Danielle looks forward to continuing her education by obtaining an Aquatic therapy certification and by becoming an Orthopedic Certified Specialist.

Tasneem A. Shaikh, DPT Tasneem is the clinic director of the Springfield Clinic. She attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate studies, completed her Masters in Science and Physical Therapist degree from the Medical College of Virginia, and has been practicing in the state of Virginia since 2000. She completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy two years ago from AT Still University of Health Sciences in Arizona. Tasneem initially worked in acute care, where she treated patients immediately after orthopedic, neurological and cardiac surgeries, however her passion is treating patients with orthopedic deficits. She has a strong background in manual therapy and has completed multiple continuing education courses from a nationally renowned institute, specializing in manual therapy and exercise techniques, focused on increasing range of motion, strength, stabilization, and postural control of the core, spine, and extremities. Tasneem has also been trained in treating infants with torticollis and children with mild motor deficits. She incorporates strengthening and stabilization with manual therapy to achieve a more functional and healthy lifestyle and promote overall health and wellness for our patients. Tasneem is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, and French, and she is currently studying Spanish.

Jin Stoothoff, PTA Jin Stoothoff, PTA graduated in 1998 with a bachelors in Physical Education and a Masters in Sports Diplomacy in 2001 in Korea.

She then went to Japan to study Japanese and taught college level badminton. In 2004, she came to the United States. Jin decided to further her education and started the PTA program at NOVA community college in 2009. She graduated in 2011 as a PTA. She enjoys a fast-paced outpatient environment. She specializes in the low back, shoulder, and knee. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 4 year old son. Jin is fluent in Korean and Japanese. Jin is currently working in our Springfield clinic.

Mary L. Woodbury, OTR/L, Certified Hand Therapist Mary has nearly 18 years of experience working as an Occupational / Hand Therapist. She is a 1989 graduate of University of New England. She received her Hand Therapy Certification in 2008. She is used to working in multi-disciplinary treatment team with extensive experience in the evaluation, treatment, and modalities to treat upper extremity orthopedic conditions. She easily establishes rapport with patients and staff members. Independently plans, develops, and implements comprehensive and complex treatment programs for individual patients. She is also responsible for the development and adherence to Occupational Therapy protocols.

Shasta Irick, PTA A native of Mississippi, Shasta attended Mississippi State University, earning her Bachelors in Fitness Management. As a military spouse & mother of two, she is afforded the opportunity to live in various cities and constantly meet new people. Upon her family's 1st tour to northern VA, Shasta attended Northern Virginia Community College, receiving her Associates degree Physical Therapist Assistant. Upon her family's 2nd tour to northern VA, Shasta joined the Alliance staff. In her spare time, Shasta enjoys reading, traveling, dancing, going to movies & sporting events, and hanging out with family (especially her children) & friends.

Eric Umayam, PT Federico "Eric" graduated from Southeast Asian College, Philippines, 2002. He enjoyed a career in the United States Navy from 2003-2011. "The military put me into a unique position where I developed professionalism, exceptional work ethic, leadership, and personal development." He attended St. Augustine University in Florida where he obtained his degree in 2012. While waiting to finish his courses, he worked at Woodbridge Alliance Physical Therapy as a PT Technician. He has taken courses specializing in knee, shoulder, low back, and sacroiliac joint disorders. He likes doing soft tissue manipulations and joint mobilizations. He has treated a variety of patients including musculoskeletal problems, post-surgical conditions, such as total and partial hip replacement, cervical and lumbar fusions, shoulder, knee, and foot repair, and cancer patients. Eric's current position is Physical Therapist and Site Coordinator in our Stafford Clinic. When not working with patients, he enjoys working out, cooking, and going out with his family to watch movies.

Tysons Corner / Vienna Office Pamela Phan, LPTA Pam graduated in 2009 with a B.A. degree from George Mason University. She went on to receive an A.A.S. degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from NVCC’s Medical Education Campus. Her clinical education experience includes outpatient orthopedics, extended care and rehab facilities with a variety of patients from young adults to the geriatric population. Pam believes in using an individualized approach to help patients achieve their personal goals and meet their unique needs. Pam is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and specializes in the treatment of orthopedic and sports related injuries.

Pam is fluent in Vietnamese and is currently treating patients in our Tysons Corner office.

Taylor Riviere, DPT, OTR/L Dr. Riviere received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences in 2015, and is Direct Access Certified. She also received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences in 2013. She received her B.A. degree in Exercise Science at the University of Saint Augustine in 2011.

Following graduation from The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences, Dr. Riviere moved to Virginia to pursue her dream of working as a therapist and discover life outside of Florida. In her free time she enjoys playing flag football, working out, staying active, and reading.

Kashaf Raja, LPTA, DPT Kashaf completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. Being an avid sports fan, Kashaf wanted to combine his interest in sports, and education in science to pursue physical therapy. In 2006, he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He has working experience in long-term care and outpatient settings. Kashaf is currently working at our Tysons Corner (VA) office as a LPTA and will start work as a PT pending licensure. In 2014, Kashaf completed M1-Basic Training in Graston Technique to treat patients with soft tissue injuries.

Washington DC Office Bianca Bass, DPT Bianca Bass, DPT graduated from InstitutoBrasileiro de Medicina e Reabiliatacao in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. She then received her Doctoral degree from Marymount University, Virginia. Bianca has been practicing Physical Therapy for the past 14 years. Since graduating, she has focused her practice in outpatient orthopedics and neurological rehabilitation. Over the years, she has enjoyed working with a variety of patients from young adults to geriatrics population. She is currently treating patients at our DC Clinic. Sharonda Jenkins, DPT, FMT Sharonda Jenkins, PT, FMT received her​ ​Physical Therapy degree at the University of Saint Mary in 2015 and her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2008. Dr. Jenkins is certified in Functional Movement Taping Levels I-II (FMT I-II). Her areas of interest include manual therapy, orthopedics, and lymphedema.

Autumn Merritt, PT, DPT Autumn earned her Bachelor' s of science degree in Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University in 2004 and her Doctoral degree in physical therapy at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL ( Fort Lauderadale, FL) in 2011. Since graduation Autumn has worked as a licensed physical therapist in Silver Spring, Maryland with focus in Geriatric care for Genesis healthcare ( 2011Present) and continues PRN. In recent years she changed her focus to Orthopedic Oupatient physical therapy where she worked in Greenbelt, MD treating patients from all backgrounds and ages including pediatrics to elder Adults.

Willow Lawn / Richmond Area Office Matt Burress, PT, DPT Dr. Burress received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Elon University in 2014, and is Direct Access Certified. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Radford University in 2009. Following graduation from Radford University, Dr. Burress received credentialing through the American College of Sports Medicine as a certified personal trainer.

During his two year stint as a personal trainer, Dr. Burress specialized in sports performance, weight loss and weight management, and overall wellness. He enjoys working with all patient populations to help motivate them to reach their goals, maximize their full potential, and improve their quality of life. In his free time he enjoys watching sports and staying active, competing in annual half marathons and duathlons.

Robert Urrutia, PTA Robert Urrutia graduated from The New England Institute of Technology with a Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2012. He is licensed in the states of New York and Commonwealth of Virginia. Robert moved from New York to Virginia in 2015 and has experience ranging from working with young athletes in outpatient settings to the geriatric population in various five star rehabilitation centers. He also is certified in therapeutic taping along with having experience with aquatic therapy. Robert has been a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor since 2008 and a competitor since 2003 with multiple titles to his name. He is now aspiring to pursue his DPT license in the future.

Woodbridge Office Tracey Boros, LPTA Tracey has a Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Northern Virginia Community College, in which, she is licensed by the Board of Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training and Fitness Development from George Mason University. She has an Orthopedic Certification in Aquatics from the Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute (ATRI). She has been an Aquatic Exercise Instructor since 1991 and a Certified Personal Trainer since 2001. She also holds certifications in several group fitness areas, including: Spinning, Turbo Kick, and BodyPump. She is a mother of two and her favorite hobby is watching movies with her family. She was Virginia State Gymnastics Champion in 1984; and was competitive in the sport for 10 years. Her newest adventure is performing in sprint triathlons.

Blanca Cerezco, PT Blanca received her degree in Physical Therapy from Emilio Aguinaldo University in the Philippines. She has been practicing physical therapy in the United States for 15 years and is fluent in Tagalog. Blanca specializes in the spine and extremities.

Stephanie Fitzsimmons PT, DPT Stephanie is a 2013 graduate of Chatham University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Stephanie joined the Alliance team at the Woodbridge clinic in 2014. Her clinical experience includes inpatient, outpatient, and skilled nursing facilities. She enjoys problem solving, puzzles, and biomechanics. These interests were the reason she fell in love physical therapy. Her passion is physical therapy application for neurological conditions and continuing education to continue to provide evidence based practice.

In her free time she enjoys cooking, building, reading, crafting, and spending time outdoors. Stephanie and her family moved to Virginia from Pennsylvania in 2013 and are proud new homeowners.

Lillian Mills, LPTA Lillian Mills, PTA works as a therapist on our Woodbridge, VA clinic. She has experience with both outpatient orthopedic and home health physical therapy. Having grown up as the daughter of an orthopedic surgeon, Ms. Mills states that being exposed to this sort of environment greatly influenced her decision to become a therapist.

Nathaniel Mitchell, L.P.T.A. Nathaniel graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in May 2010 with a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. He obtained licensure from the Board of Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia in September 2010 after successfully passing the National Physical Therapy Examination. Nathaniel has gained knowledge in treating various orthopedic injuries and has experience treating back, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle, and foot pathologies. Nathaniel has played recreational football since he was 7 years old and is a fan of all professional sports. He also enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures.

Francis Ramirez, PT, DPT, MS, CPT Dr. Ramirez received his undergraduate education from the George Washington University, where he graduated as the top student and undergraduate speaker for the commencement ceremonies of the School of Public Health and Health Services. He received both his Master of Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees at the Medical College of Virginia-VCU; where he had served as the Director of Personal Training in the Medical Campus under Dr. Eric West. He has had extensive training in sports medicine and orthopedics-having worked with many youth, amateur, and professional athletes; dancers and ballerinas; and weekend warriors here and abroad. He has also worked with amputee patients; Industrial Rehabilitation clients; and is proficient with the evaluation for and fabrication of custom-made foot orthoses. He is a Board Certified Direct Access Provider; and is licensed to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.

Dr. Ramirez is currently an Advanced-level practitioner of John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release technique, which he has been practicing for over 6 years. He has also taken Advanced Manipulative Therapy courses with famed Brasilian chiropractor Dr. Ines Nakashima; and has apprenticed with various expert-level osteopathic-trained manual therapists. He has had very good results in resolving patients’ symptoms. Dr. Ramirez utilizes a multi-faceted treatment approach incorporating manual therapies, postural assessment, and innovative exercise protocols.

Dr. Ramirez is an avid fan of CR Flamengo, FC Barcelona, Everton FC, and DC United; and enjoys watching the “beautiful game.”

He has also trained in Brasilian jiu-jitsu and capoeira, having seen the best in both arts when he travelled to Brasil.

Jacquelyn Riggles, DPT Jacquelyn Riggles, DPT graduated in 2009 from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. From there, she pursued her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University from 2009-2012. She loves the challenge of working with the orthopedic population, but also enjoys working with individuals with neurological and balance diagnoses. Outside of work, she enjoys activities such as video games, running, rollerblading and softball. Jacquelyn is working in our Woodbridge clinic.

Renee Trombley, PT, DPT Dr. Trombley graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate work at Longwood University; where she majored in Biology. At Longwood, Dr. Trombley was a member of BBB, the Biological Honor Society. She was also a teaching assistant for Microbiology during her junior and senior years. After graduation from PT school, she moved to Tampa, FL; and after working for a year at Florida Orthopedic Institute, she became an instructor and clinical physical therapist at the University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy. She was jointly appointed in Physical Therapy and Pediatrics. She co-instructed wound care; and participated in a multi-disciplinary Healthy Weight clinic for juveniles and young adults; for exercise prescription and progression. She returned to Virginia in 2010. She is a Board Certified Direct Access Provider. She is also the CCCE for all Alliance clinics.</p><p>Renee is interested in all orthopedic conditions; especially sports medicine. She has treated various diagnoses from TMJ disorders, pre-operative exercise prescription, and postoperative care. She is currently practicing and taking courses in Myofascial Release from John Barnes, PT. </p><p>Renee enjoys various sports and activities from running, tennis, golf, yoga and has recently switched from skiing to snowboarding, as well as trying indoor rock climbing. She spends most of her time with her dog Pogi, and watching hockey: Tampa Bay Lightning.

Woodbridge / Opitz Blvd Office Claude Bernard, OTR/L Claude Bernard graduated from Howard University with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013. Prior to earning his masters, he received an Athletic Training degree at Methodist University in 2011. He has gained valuable clinical experience in a variety of settings which include inpatient rehab, acute care, SNIF, mental health hospital, and sports injuries. Upon completion of OT school, he worked alongside his mentor/doctor’s hand therapy clinic where he developed skills in hand therapy, lymphedema therapy, and pediatric therapy. Working at the hand therapy clinic he has developed the skill to combine comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb with function and activity using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment. His passion has always been with the intricate knowledge and specialization of hand therapy. In his free time, Claude enjoys playing basketball, fitness, traveling, and spending time with family.

Kimberly Hartman, OTR/L, Certified Hand Therapist Director, Hand Therapy Program at Alliance Rehab. Kim has over 15 years of experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) with a specialty in Hand Therapy. She graduated from Towson State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and later went on to attend one of the premiere schools in the nation for Hand Therapy, Drexel University, where she received a post-graduate level certificate in Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation. She combined her academic achievements with over 4000 hours of hand experience to earn her certification in Hand Therapy, after she passed the National Board examination in 2005. She brings advanced skills in the rehabilitation of hand injuries and will be offering a complete spectrum of rehabilitative services.
