Roots International brings to Nairobi for the first time the singer, songwriter and guitarist Tcheka with his distinctive Cape Verde-influenced sounds. A one-man showcase of deeply soulful vocals accompanied by an inimitable form and mastery on guitar.

But the influences do not stop there. Tcheka’s music is a busy intersection of Brazilian and African pop, traditional forms, folk, jazz, blues and rock.

The State Against Mandela and the Others

16th July

16

The State Against Mandela And The Others is based on recovered sound archives during a historic trial in 1963 and 1964 which transport us back into the thick of the courtroom where Nelson Mandela and eight others, like him, faced the death sentence. They were all subjected to pitiless crossexaminations and turned the tables on the state: South Africa’s Apartheid regime was in the dock.
