The Reverend Dr. Marietta Ramsey is the proud founder and pastor of Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church, which started as an outreach ministry of Waters African Methodist Episcopal Church. The church held its inaugural worship service on June 2, 2002; in June 2025, Bethlehem will celebrate twenty-three years of existence. Bethlehem is located at 6616 Graceland Ave In fact, it sits on the corners of Bethlehem Ave and Graceland Ave We believe we are in a home ordained by God Bethlehem is a witness that God always keeps his promises and always takes care of His church In 2023, Bethlehem paid off its mortgage. To God be the Glory for the great and awesome things He has done, is doing, and shall do!
Dr. Ramsey served as the assistant pastor of Waters Church under the Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Braxton for more than eleven years. At Waters Church, she served as advisor to the Women’s Ministry, Ministerial Advisor to Youth Ministries, and a Sunday School teacher. She also taught Women’s Only Bible Study, which was open to all women regardless of church affiliation. The Women’s Only Ministry continues at Bethlehem A.M.E. Church as a Sister Circle meeting quarterly. Dr. Ramsey also served under the Rev. Dr. Samuel Hayward, her pastor when God birthed Bethlehem A.M.E. Church. One of Dr. Ramsey’s proudest accomplishments to date is a Women’s Only Retreat that she sponsored for twelve consecutive years as an avenue of spiritual growth for forty to fifty women annually.
Dr. Ramsey, an ordained Itinerant Elder, preached her initial sermon at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church under then pastor, now Bishop John R. Bryant. Dr. Ramsey also served for two and a half years as assistant pastor at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore under then pastor, now Bishop Frank M. Reid, III.
Dr. Ramsey is next to the oldest of seven children who were born to Johnnie and Sallie Ramsey. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Bowie State University, a Master of Arts in Special Education with a concentration in Emotional Disturbance from Coppin State University, a Master of Arts in Theology from St Mary’s Seminary, and a certification in Business Administration from Loyola College (Baltimore) Dr Ramsey earned her Doctor of Ministry in Adaptive Theology from Payne Theological Seminary in May 2019.
On September 1, 2024, Dr. Ramsey retired as an Assistant Principal from Baltimore City Public Schools, serving 31 years as an educator. Her final assignment was as Assistant Principal at Thurgood Marshall Middle School, #170.
Dr. Ramsey is single and has no biological children. She does have four sisters and two deceased siblings, who blessed her with the role of aunt to a host of nieces and nephews who are the loves of her life. She boasts of three sons who call her “Ma,” whom she was blessed to nurture and mother during her sister’s deployments.
Dr. Ramsey belongs to numerous organizations and is a very proud member of Delta Si Th t S it She has preached and conducted revivals and workshops across e has received numerous awards and citations. Her most noted shments to date are being a finalist in a national search for Youth of the Year Award by a Youth Ministry Magazine, which featured he magazine and receiving the Philomathians “Woman to Watch . In 2023, she preached the Annual Sermon for the Baltimore al Conference Opening Worship Service and at the Planning ing for the Second Episcopal District and received the Pastor of Year for the Baltimore Conference.
Dr Ramsey thanks God for one day saving her and making mething beautiful out of her life She is grateful that God is no specter of persons; what God does for others, God will do for ou. Her motto is: “Live always so that somebody, anybody, verybody can see Jesus living on the inside of you. ”
