Main Street Christmas Movie Night

Zion Hill Scrapbook Challenge
As the holiday season begins, and families will gather together, we are asking Zion Hill congregation members to go through family albums, scrapbooks, and memories to see if there are any early pictures taken at the historic Zion Hill Church.
During the “Scrapbook Challenge”, those who send in historic pictures of Zion Hill will be entered to win tickets to an upcoming concert/program at the site.
Historic Sites staff are also offering a workshop on Tuesday, November 19th at 5:30pm to show how to scan and send in photos
Loblolly Model Train Display: Sensory Friendly Day Thursday, December 5th
This year we are offering a sensory-friendly day for our Loblolly Model Train Display to provide a welcoming environment for visitors with sensory sensitivities. These special days feature reduced noise and lights, as well as limited crowd sizes to ensure a comfortable experience.
Over the summer, Historic sites staff met with representatives from the Helping House in Nacogdoches who graciously provided guidance and some resources to help us create a sensory-friendly experience for our visitors.
The first sensory-friendly day will be held on Thursday, December 5th, with a potential second date on Thursday, December 12th, based on demand. Families are encouraged to sign up for specific time slots to help us manage attendance and maintain a calm atmosphere.

SFA Music Prep will provide a free preview performance of A Nutcracker Dream on Friday, November 22nd at 5:00pm. Their goal is to bring classical music to children and families who might not otherwise get a chance to experience a live performance. The event is free, but registration is requested through eventbrite.com.
As part of the ongoing book discussion of There There, the library will provide an opportunity for families to interview and record the older members of their families in a StoryCorp-inspired program. Public Works crews are currently clearing clearing the leaf route in zone 9 & the brush route in zone 6.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City
Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Burk Street Planned Closure - The City of Nacogdoches's stormwater drainage contractors will begin construction on the Burk Street bridge crossing on Monday November 4, 2024. To accomodate contractor mobilization, Burk Street will be closed starting Friday morning November 1, 2024 at 7:00 AM. Burk Street will continue to be closed to through traffic while these much needed drainage improvements are completed. Please use caution while traveling in this area.
Local traffic will be accommodated. We will continue to update our social media pages of any changes or additional traffic advisories while these drainage improvements are being completed.

The Nacogdoches City Council has approved a contract for Professional Services between the City and Cunningham Recreation for construction of a new playground at Robert McCrimmon Park!
Design renderings for the playground are being finalized and will be posted to the Nacogdoches Parks & Recreation Facebook page soon. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates on the installation timeline!
Parks and Recreation would like to invite you to the Opening Celebration at Ritchie Street Playground on Tuesday, November 26th from 11am to 1pm! Help us celebrate the installation of our All Abilities Playground and the newly painted basketball court at Ritchie Street Park by joining us for games, snacks and giveaways. Winter break is just around the corner This year winter camps will be offered as 2 mini camps, January 2 & 3 and January 6 & 7. Camp is 9am-3:30pm and available for children ages 5-12. Campers will do crafts, play games, utilize our gymnastics room and gymnasium. Registration opens December 2nd and will be available until the first day of camp or until the camp is full.
Animal Services will be appearing on the first Sunday of every month at Chili’s for Pooches on the Patio. Come out and visit with one of our star animals from the shelter and get the scoop on how to be a regular or short term foster parent. HSNC is still working on their end of year close out and restructuring They will be closed for services to the public until the first of the year.
