SUMMARY Infectious diseases are illnesses brought on by bacteria, viruses, fungus, or parasites. Our bodies are home to a variety of creatures. However, certain microbes can cause sickness under particular circumstances.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. Leptospirosis is disseminated by diseased animals' urine, which can enter water or soil and live for weeks to months. Humans can become infected by coming into contact with infected animals' urine or other bodily fluids, or drinking water, soil, or eating food contaminated with their urine. Bacteria can enter the body through the skin or mucous membranes such as the eyes, nose, and mouth, especially if the skin is ruptured due to a cut or scrape. Infection can also be spread by drinking polluted water. The bacteria is carried by a wide range of wild and domestic animals like mice, cattle, dogs and rats .

Many persons who work outdoors or with animals, such as farmers, mine employees, sewage workers, slaughterhouse workers, veterinarians and animal caregivers, fish workers, dairy farmers, and military personnel, are exposed to it as an occupational danger. High fever, headache, muscular pains, vomiting, jaundice (yellow skin and eyes), red eyes, diarrhea are some of the symptoms of Leptospirosis in humans. People who have symptoms that might indicate leptospirosis should see a doctor, take antibiotics and others. There are many precautions to prevent the risk of infected leptospirosis. Always wear gloves and mask to workplace exposure. Must take antibiotics for the emergency workers in disaster zones. Avoid swimming water and drink only water that is boiled for travelers and tourists. Those who are exposed to polluted water or soil as a result of their employment or leisure activities should wear protective apparel or footwear. Besides, do not handle or come in contact with urine, blood, or tissues from your infected pet.
