HEALTH & BEAUTY

March brings an exciting time of change, as we focus on enhancing our stores to provide better care and an improved experience for our patients. We’re thrilled to announce our shop front in Willows Shopping Centre has been undergoing an awesome renovation. With a larger space, we’ll be able to offer an even bigger product range. We can’t wait to show you, head in-store to see what’s new.

That’s not all—we are ramping up our in-store Prescribing Pharmacist services at two of our locations, bringing even more personalised care and expert advice to your visits. Soon, patients will be able to access one-on-one pharmacist consultations and fill repeat prescriptions at our Smithfield Doctors and Innisfail stores. Talk to any of our Pharmacists for a referral, and make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for further updates @alivepharmacywarehouse.

We also welcome the Australian Governments Women’s Package which will see subsidisation for eligible patients for things like UTI and hormonal contraception consults. Through this announcement, the Government has recognised community pharmacists as the most accessible frontline health service to help boost women’s health. Community Pharmacies stand ready to commence services from 1 July 2025.

In this month’s Live+ Catalogue we’re bringing you everything health and beauty. With the change in seasons, there's no better time to revamp your routine. Here are my three beauty takeaways:

1. Hydration is key: water keeps our skin wellhydrated and is essential for our health. Look for moisturisers that contain hyaluronic acid or glycerine to help draw moisture into the skin. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

2. Choose skincare/haircare products that are right for you: everyone is different and so are their beauty concerns. For instance, if you have oily hair, opt for oil-free conditioners that won’t weigh your hair down or contribute excess oil accumulation.

3. SPF is non-negotiable: always wear sunscreen no matter the weather. Use a broadspectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

We remain committed to providing you with the highest standards in health, beauty, and wellness. We hope you find your next favourite beauty routine. Have a happy, healthy March.

& Fabulous:

The Self-Care Edition

Women's health and self-care go hand in hand, focusing on nurturing both the body and mind to promote overall wellbeing. In today’s fast-paced world, it's easy to forget the importance of taking time for us, but prioritising health and self-care is essential for living a balanced and fulfilling life. Whether it’s staying active, eating nourishing foods, managing stress, or simply getting enough rest, every woman deserves to feel her best—inside and out.

We encourage you to take a moment to think about how you pamper yourself or if you even make time for it. Here are some easy self-care tips:

1 Hydration, hydration, hydration – Water is your best friend when it comes to glowing skin. Pair it with a refreshing hydrating Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face Mask.

2 Glow with some skincare love – Exfoliate gently to remove dead skin cells and reveal a fresh, radiant complexion. A Vitamin C such as CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C can brighten and even your skin tone.

3 Embrace your natural beauty – Skip the heavy makeup and go for a lighter, dewy look. A little tinted moisturizer, some mascara, and a pop of lip balm are all you need to feel effortlessly chic. Try the MCoBeauty or Rimmel Kind & Free Ranges.

4 Mindfulness is key – Beauty isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good too. Take a moment to relax, breathe, and celebrate YOU.

5 Unplug and recharge – Set aside time to disconnect from screens: no emails, social media or work. Enjoy taking a walk, a hobby, or sit in silence. This gives your mind the chance to rest and relax, reducing digital burnout.

Incorporating self-care into our daily lives is important for our overall health, happiness, and wellbeing. Here’s to strong women—and glowing skin!

HOW TO GET GREAT SKIN IF YOU WEAR GLASSES

Having a dewy glow from your make-up is what we’re all chasing but sometimes wearing glasses makes it a little tricky. Glasses can interfere with the perfect make-up finish. Your foundation rubs off, your eyes get hidden, and the blending fails to remain intact. Try these 6 handy hacks to pull your glasses make-up look together.

ON THE NOSE

Use eyeshadow primer on the bridge of your nose and touch up with setting powder. ‘Glass skin’ or a ‘dewy finish’ usually has a glowing, hydrated look, however the bridge of your nose will need to be matte to stop the glasses from sliding down your face. This area is hidden away by your glasses anyway, so it won’t ruin your look.

PRIME, CONCEAL, SET

CARROT IS KEY

This one is a little random but hear it out: try drinking carrot juice. Carrots contain betacarotene – a type of vitamin A. Vitamin A protects the outer surface of your eyes and decreases macular degeneration. Carrot juice also has antioxidant properties that can help give your skin that glowing appearance.

If your makeup is prone to smudges, try applying less make-up or mineral-based products. Apply primer under a light layer foundation and cover blemishes with concealer. A setting spray can also help keep foundation on your face and not on your frames.

ENHANCE YOUR EYES

If you’re nearsighted your glasses can play tricks and make your eyes appear slightly smaller. To counteract this effect, apply white or highlighter to the inner corner of your eye. Avoid a dark liner as this will make them look even smaller.

SMUDGE-FREE LASHES

Curl the lashes to prevent them from touching your lenses. Giving your lashes an extra boost in the morning can push them away from glasses that causes smudges. You can also opt for a waterproof mascara as these are less likely to smudge.

BRIGHT SMILE

Try a bright red lip stick. This will bring the attention away from your specs and pull your entire look together.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GLASSES

Complete your look by freshening up your lenses. It’s an easy fix to run them under warm water and apply a mild soap (like dish-soap) with your fingers. Use a moist towelette with rubbing alcohol to clean the nose pads and earpieces on your frames.

Try Onthenose Magic Wipes to remove smudges, dirt, and residue on the go. A quick drying, multi-purpose wipe that can be used on glasses, phones, computers, camera lenses and screens.

Try Onthenose Anti Fog Cleaning Spray after cleaning to prevent fog. Especially helpful when wearing a face mask to prevent the haze coming from the heat of your mouth.

10-minute home workout! LADIES

Sometimes, life gets busy, and finding time for a long workout just isn’t realistic. But don’t worry! A 10-minute home workout can be just as effective when done consistently. It’s simple, effective, and doesn’t require any equipment. You can do it in the comfort of your living room or bedroom—just set aside 10 minutes to focus on yourself! Here’s a few exercises you could work into your routine:

Jumping Jacks (1 minute)

Start by getting your heart rate up with jumping jacks. Stand with your feet together and arms at your sides. Jump your feet out to the sides while raising your arms overhead, then jump back to the starting position. Keep a steady pace and make sure to engage your core as you move.

Plank (1 minute)

Hold a plank position on your forearms with your body forming a straight line from head to heels. Engage your core, glutes, and thighs to maintain stability. If this is too hard, you can drop to your knees but try to hold the plank position for the full minute to build strength.

Bodyweight Squats (1 minute)

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly pointing out. Lower your hips down and back as if you’re sitting into a chair, keeping your chest lifted and push through your heels to return to standing. Focus on form and go as low as you can for maximum effect.

Leg pull in knee (1 minute)

Lie on your back and use a resistance band or your own body to pull your leg toward your chest or overhead. Alternatively, for leg raises, lift your legs toward the ceiling while keeping them straight, then slowly lower them back down without touching the floor. Engage your core throughout.

Push-ups (1 minute)

For upper body strength, go for classic push-ups. Start in a plank position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Lower your body toward the floor, then push back up. Modify by doing knee push-ups if needed. Focus on keeping your body in a straight line throughout the movement.

HOT TIP

Repeat the whole circuit 2-3 times to get a more intense workout and mix it up each day for variety so it doesn’t get boring.

Cool Down and Stretch (1 minute)

Finish with a gentle stretch to relax your muscles. Focus on stretching your hamstrings, quads, and arms. Take deep breaths to lower your heart rate and release any tension.

A 10-minute workout routine is perfect for any busy woman who wants to stay active and healthy without dedicating an hour to exercise. Do it daily, and you’ll start feeling stronger, more energised, and ready to take on the day!

How to wash your hair properly!

After a visit to the hair salon, we are left with glamorous freshly washed and cut hair. I’m sure you want to maintain a good salon treatment for as long as possible, so here are some general tips and tricks you could take when washing your hair:

1

WET YOUR HAIR THOROUGHLY

Take your time to ensure your hair is completely wet before jumping right into applying the shampoo and conditioner.

2 APPLYING YOUR SHAMPOO

Put a small pea or coin sized amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together until the soap lathers up and starts to create bubbles, then gently massage it into your scalp. This will help remove dead skin cells (like dandruff) and stimulate hair growth. Wash out thoroughly and apply again if your hair is particularly dirty or heavy in product.

3 APPLYING YOUR CONDITIONER

Conditioner only needs to be applied from the neckline down, not directly onto your scalp. Applying it onto your scalp may make your hair appear oily sooner. Gently apply the conditioner to the ends of your hair and let it sit. Some conditioners need 2-3 minutes while others may need to sit for 5-7 minutes.

4 FINAL RINSE

Make sure to rinse well and remove every last bit of conditioner before jumping out of the shower. Left over conditioner can irritate your scalp and make you hair appear oily, and sit flat and heavy on your head. Try doing your final rinse with cold water, this will help lock in the follicles and make your hair shinier and smoother.

Did you know?

YOU DON’T NEED TO WASH YOUR HAIR EVERY DAY

It strips the natural oils and can be damaging in the long run. If you have oily hair, consider washing your hair every 2 or 3 days. For those with dry hair once or twice weekly is recommended.

5 WASH YOU FACE & BACK

Shampoo and conditioner washes down your face and body, and so it’s important to rinse off any residue. If conditioner is left on the skin, it can cause irritation and breakouts.

6 DRYING

Some of us like to wrap our hair in a towel, but it may not be the best idea. It keeps you hair damp for longer and can pull on your scalp. Instead, pat your hair dry with a towel. You can use a microfiber towel to dry your hair if you want to be extra cautious about frizz and split ends.

Hair doesn’t grow on trees; it grows on our heads.

with age KEEPING HAIR

YOUTHFUL

As we age, it’s important to take care of our hair to keep it in great shape. Here are some tips and tricks that might help!

1

BRUSH WITH CARE

For all lengths of hair, make sure you brush it. Even those with short hair can benefit from the massage of the bristles on the scalp. Light combing can stimulate the hair follicle for healthy hair regrowth. When brushing longer hair make sure to brush the knots out from the ends and work your way up. This will cause less strain from all the pulling and yanking.

KEEP IT CLEAN

4 3

To maintain fresh-looking hair, it’s essential to remove debris, dandruff, and toxins regularly. Build-up of these substances can block and damage hair follicles. As we age, it’s important to be gentle on our hair, especially if it becomes thinner and drier. Choose a shampoo and conditioner that contains lush ingredients and oils, such as the OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner, which is free of harmful chemicals and light in texture. Also, avoid washing your hair too often, as this can strip it of its essential oils.

2

MULTIVITAMINS

As we age, our bodies require more minerals and nutrients to maintain our youthfulness. There are many vitamins that can help with pigmentation and prevent hair thinning, including Vitamin B, D, E, Zinc, and Iron, among others. Multivitamins, such as the Swisse Multivitamins from the Ultivite range, provide a convenient way to replenish a blend of minerals, antioxidants, and herbs to support our bodies and our hair.

AIR DRY

Hopefully you’ve mastered the act of patience and can wait out the hair drying process. Wet hair can be fragile, so brushing it, wrapping it in a towel or drying it with heat can damage it. If you wish you can use a light micro-fibre towel or t-shirt to gently wrap your hair. Even better, simply pat your hair dry with a micro-fibre towel and leave it be. A serum or coconut oil can be a nice treat for the ends of your hair if it’s feeling extra dull.

GREY HAIR AND COLOUR

Some people embrace their greying hair without any regrets, recognizing that aging is a natural process. However, if you’re not ready to embrace the look of grey hair, you can consider dyeing your hair. It’s important to carefully follow the instructions on the dye package, as some dyes can contain chemicals that help the colour adhere to your hair. While dyeing your hair is generally safe, it’s important to be mindful of keeping it away from your face and not leaving it on for too long. If you prefer a more natural option, the Bio Magic Hair Colour Range is a good choice for those looking for an organic-friendly option.

NOURISH AND STRENGTHEN

Haircare is essential to keep your hair healthy, and there are many great products available to help. To find the right product for your hair, it’s a good idea to consult with your hairdresser or pharmacist. A new product that you might want to consider is the Growth Bomb Range, which is specifically designed to promote scalp health and protect against hair breakage for stronger and longer hair. The range contains a plant called ‘Yerba Maté’, which is rich in antioxidants and caffeine, making it an excellent choice for those seeking stronger hair.

MANAGE HAIR LOSS

As we age, it’s common to experience some form of hair loss, such as thinning or hair becoming finer. In men, hereditary hair loss is also common, with hairline recession and crown thinning being typical symptoms. While there are medicinal products available to help with hair loss, such as the Regaine range, it’s important to consult with a doctor or pharmacist before using them. They can provide advice on whether the product is appropriate for you and how to use it safely and effectively.
