AMBULANCE BILLING outsource ambulance billing services Since the mid-1960s, the Fire Department has provided basic and advanced life support ambulances to the Sanger community and surrounding areas of the county. This service is feefor-service, where ambulance service costs are not borne by the General Fund. The revenue from the ambulance service offsets the costs of providing this service to the public. In the mid1970s, the Fire Department performed ambulance billing internally and the bills were sent to the patient for payment. In 1992, the service was contracted to an outside vendor and has continued to be subcontracted to outside vendors ever since. Ambulance billing Today, like physician visits and urgent care visits, patient insurance is billed as a courtesy to the customer and, in August 2018, the emergency services billing function was brought in-house. The ambulance biller works with local facilities to determine demographic information and confirm eligibility for benefits. It is responsible for posting payments and correspondence from customers, processing claims to insurance companies, and submitting requests for reimbursement of overpayments.
