HOW COFFEE CHANGES YOUR PERCEPTION OF TIME

We all have at least two internal clocks running. One clock tracks your circadian rhythms, telling you when to go to sleep, wake up, and eat. The other clock is the interval time clock, this one tells you how long a particular activity is going to take.

If your brain normally stores 60 pulses for 60 seconds, your brain on caffeine stores 100 pulses which makes your internal clock go faster. Two things happen as a result. First, when you retrieve your time memory, that minute will feel shorter than the 60 seconds it actually took. So a speedy clock means that time gets faster. Second, your memories get more granular. In one minute, you are storing 100 pulses, which add up to more data storage in your brain per second.

CAFFEINE AND REACTION TIME

The positive effects of caffeine on alertness and reaction time have been studied extensively. The effects of caffeine on alertness are often clearest in situations where an individual’s alertness level is reduced, such as when they are suffering from the common cold, the postlunch dip or working at night

COFFEE DOESN’T REALLY DEHYDRATE YOU

Despite what you’ve heard, coffee and caffeinated tea are not dehydrating, experts say. It’s true that caffeine is a mild diuretic, which means that it causes your kidneys to flush extra sodium and water from the body through urine.

DRINKING COFFEE LATE AT NIGHT CAUSES

There is some truth to coffee keeping you up at night, thanks to caffeine being a ‘stimulant’. This does have some truth behind it as caffeine is a stimulant that makes you feel more alert and can delay the timing of your body clock.

Although, insomnia may not be due 100% to the coffee. The caffeine in the coffee can impact your sleep, so it is always best to swap to decaf coffee after lunch.

DRINKING COFFEE CAN STUNT YOUR GROWTH

Although many have a preconceived notion that coffee can affect your growth. This simply isn’t true, as there is no strong scientific evidence to suggest this, besides, we reach our full height by late teens anyway - an age where it is uncommon to drink coffee.

COFFEE IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE

This may depend on what you think is highly addictive. People who have coffee as a daily habit may find it hard to give coffee up (just like any habit!) as they feel like they depend on it to wake up and develop a tolerance to it over time, but I wouldn’t say it is highly addictive.

DRINKING COFFEE CAN STAIN YOUR TEETH

Keep in mind that coffee consumption could potentially impact your teeth. Yes, coffee can stain your teeth a little as the enamel on your teeth has tiny pores which means the tannins in the coffee can enter these pores leaving deep stains. Plus, as the coffee is acidic it can wear down the enamel, leaving you more prone to staining. To help, you could get your teeth cleaned professionally every 6 months and drink plenty of water in between your coffee.

DRINKING COFFEE CAN HELP YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT

In the short term, drinking coffee can increase your metabolic rate and therefore increase fat burning but over time people become tolerant to the impact of coffee and it no longer has this effect.

DECAF COFFEE DOESN’T CONTAIN ANY CAFFEINE

Don’t be fooled that decaf coffee is completely caffeine free. Decaf does still contain a small amount. The decaffeination process removes around 97% of the caffeine in the coffee beans so there is still a small amount of caffeine in decaf coffee – around 3mg per cup.

COFFEE IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

When it comes to your health, coffee isn’t bad for you when consumed in moderation. Consuming too much can increase anxiety levels and cause shaking so be aware about how coffee makes you feel. However, if you have sugar or syrup with your coffee every time then excess sugar isn’t good for your health either.

Personalities for

BLACK COFFEE

A simple mind requires a simple coffee and those who prefer this often tend to keep things straight forward as they would overall like to avoid situations involving any sort of conflict. A survey conducted by Dr. Ramani Durvasula found that black coffee drinkers tend to be old-school and efficient whilst also being more single minded. Some black coffee drinkers may be very fitness orientated, with an Americano being a well-known low-calorie order. This can mean that this person is a determined, focused and driven individual that looks after themselves; making them self-sufficient and empowered.

ICED COFFEE

Boldness and spontaneity can describe an iced coffee drinker. people who pick coffees with a twist are young at heart and socially bold trendsetters. Those who choose iced coffees might be more child-like, imaginative and love spontaneity. Although an Iced latte is quite refreshing during the summer when the winter weather kicks in, people that would order an iced coffee, I would say, are misfits in the best possible sense. The people that go against the grain, the ones that potentially work for themselves and play by their own rules. They want things done their way and could potentially be quite stubborn in certain areas of their lives. So, get ready to go along with their latest ‘great idea’ at any moment.

Your latte drinkers are lovely people, aren’t you? Those that drink lattes are more likely to be helpful, open-minded, generous and are probably better at looking after their friends and family than themselves.  They often want something simple to drink without complication. You also enjoy being comfortable. You’re quite content to spend evenings chilling out.

ESPRESSO / DOUBLE ESPRESSO

Someone who orders an espresso is quite adventurous and powerful. Strong in character, who knows what they want and are not afraid to ask for it. The best way of describing someone that drinks an espresso, or even a double espresso, is the same kind of people that will probably walk into a bar and have a shot of whiskey or rum. They tend to be no-nonsense, straight talking and shoot-from-the-hip type of people.

Hard working and confident, these busy individuals don’t have much room for ‘me-time’. They are, however, quite intelligent and sophisticated with wild imaginations. Though, you wouldn’t know that as they tend to be quite private people too.
