The directive was to modernize the existing lobby creating a more pleasant transitional zone between the bustling street activity and the serenity of the individual apartments.
For economics the approach has been to retain all existing regulatory fire doors and shroud with an appealing timber panelling that evokes a warmth and more residential ambience. For example the existing wall of timber doors whereby you access the services meters will be retained and in front will sit a new panelled wall providing access via discreet sliding panels. The detailing of the panelling creates a seamless aesthetic concealing the many doors and access panels.
By relocating the mail boxes and creating a parcel recess this gives a sense of purpose to the large lobby and at the same time allows for more space in which to collect mail etc.
The existing stone floor will be cleaned and refreshed complimenting the vertical oak panelling . Introducing a large mirror provides a little glamour and added depth combined with a padded seat to perch whilst waiting or resting a bag
The smaller lift lobby will be slightly increased in size with the removal of the existing post boxes giving way to a display shelf for a vase or something similarly attractive.
