National Federation Tournament Programme December 2013

Page 2

Welcome On behalf of the seven Federations represented and in particular Capital Football, I welcome all players, coaches, referees, and parents, to Wellington for the National Federation Talent Tournament. The tournament has a long history, with the very first taking place in Wellington in 1925. The following year separate tournaments were introduced for the North and South Islands, and it wasn’t until 1980 that the tournament became national again. For a variety of reasons the tournament has not been held for a few years but it is great to see it back and with it comes the competitive part of football that we all enjoy. I would like to acknowledge the financial support of the NZ Community Trust who have graciously contributed 50% of the operating costs of the tournament. By virtue of the grant received from NZCT it has allowed the tournament to take place and we thank them most sincerely. Wellington prides itself on the standard of its playing facilities and these will be showcased with the tournament being played at Memorial Park (Petone), Maidstone Park (Upper Hutt) and Wakefield Park (Island Bay). Great facilities enhance the ability of players to perform at their best. I trust all the games will be played in the spirit that exists within the Federations; play hard but fair. I am sure you will all enjoy the experience on offer to you. Kind regards RICHARD REID CEO Capital Football
