David Raymond Skipp “D-Skipp”, 59, of Liverpool, NY departed this life unexpectedly on August 12, 2023, with his loving family and friends by his side.
David was born June 9, 1964, in Syracuse, NY to the late Howard and Estella Skipp. David was raised on the Southside of Syracuse near Colvin Street; his childhood neighborhood that he loved and never forgot. He attended Syracuse City Schools and graduated from Thomas J. Corcoran High School in 1983, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. Dave attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio where he studied Computer Science. Dave lived and worked in Columbus, Ohio for several years before returning home to Syracuse, NY. After working for the school district for several years, he furthered his career working at Crucible Specialty Metals as a machine operator. He then worked at New Process Gear as a machine operator where he was a contributing member in the manufacturing of various automotive components. He then worked for CSX Transportation as a freight conductor before working his way up to locomotive engineer, where he transported freight across Northern States. Dave had many passions. He spent time at the Faith Hope Community Center where he enjoyed boxing, lifting weights, and mentoring the youth.
Dave Skipp furthered his involvement in the Southside community by volunteering for many years as a football coach at Kirk Park under the leadership of Mark and Karla Hall. He was recognized as a father figure to many of the youth. He maintained his relationship by ensuring the kids were safe, giving them rides home. Dave was a die-hard New York Giants fan and went to every game he was able to attend. He loved and was proud of his NYG man cave. He never missed a moment to trash talk the Cowboys.
Dave gave his life to Christ in 2013, under the guidance of Pastor Kenneth and Tongela Smith at Abundant Life Christian Center. He later left Abundant Life and joined Tucker Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Draper. Dave was a God-fearing man.
Dave met Chandrikka in 1993 on the Southside of Syracuse when he only had his daughter Davia and Chan had her daughter Roneisha. In their union, they had David Jr. in 1994 and were married in 2004 at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. In 2006, Dave and Chan gave birth to Da’Vyne. Their Skipp family was complete. They spent the next years as a family creating an unbreakable bond and creating memories that would last forever. The Skipp family traveled, laughed, cried, and did everything imaginable as one foundation in the main pillar of love. Some of their best memories were spent in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Dave’s role was the protector of the family. He wouldn’t play when it came down to his wife, his son, and his three girls. Good fathers do three things: they provide, they nurture, and they guide. Dave did all of those for his family.
He was known for his big infectious smile, continuous jokes, and just being outright friendly. He was truly loved by many.
David Raymond Skipp leaves to mourn his passing, cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his beautiful wife that he adored, loved and spoiled, Chandrikka; his “forever daddy’s girl”, nurturing and attentive daughter Davia (Douglas); his tenacious, spirited, and goal driven daughter, Roneisha Williams; his brave, fearless, and strong son David Jr.; his youngest, wisest, and most responsible daughter Da’Vyne; and his granddaughter “the twinkle in his eye” Peyton Bullock.
He also leaves his only sister, Josephine (Mario) Morris and was very devoted to their family; his older brothers Roger Walker, Larry (Beverly) Armor of Tennessee and the late Micheal Skipp; his youngest brother and best friend, Donald Skipp; Dave’s Aunt, who also became his mother, Leliabell Woodley of Tennessee and his mother-in-law Mary Jane Houston of Georgia; his sisters-in-law Yvonne (David) Bates of Georgia, Diane and Sandra Houston, Tynikka (Donald) Thibodeaux of Texas; brothers-inlaw Shaun (Heidi) Houston, Kenneth (Arsenior) Houston, Randelle “Debo” Reeves of Rochester and many more. Dave also took on raising and being a father figure in the lives of his oldest nephews Shaun Ali (Markita) Collins, Joseph “JoJo” (Tammy) Chambliss, niece Shayla Skipp and many more that he adored. Godchildren Anthony Sease, Keyonia Tyson, Tyger Tyson, Jarred Grant-Spann, Nyasia and Nyjaiah James, Kylin Angew, Tevin Chisholm and Darvin Ogletree; special cousins James West Moreland and Johnny Brown of Tennessee; and his best friend and Ghatlin Brotha, Tone Sease.
David Skipp was loved and respected by those who knew him, and he returned the same. Serving as protector, peacekeeper, and father figure to many, he brought joy, peace and laughter to everyone around him. He will be missed tremendously by everyone who knew him.
Rest in heavenly peace, D-Skipp, we love you!
