Kitchen Design: Live Brief The Style…

The existing kitchen is within a very small space, with a lack of storage and practicality, the new design for the kitchen is going to be bright and contemporary with the use of bold colour. Here are some examples of inspiration for the final design, they suit the clients style choices within the brief. The design and layout will be considered from and ergonomic perspective ensuring comfort and easy use when performing the day to day tasks that go on within the space, and the clients personal needs.

Client Requirements: • Storage • An Island • Butler or Belfast sink • Top loading washing machine • Client likes to cook – hob, oven, grill • Separate fridge/freezer • White or light wood in matt finish • Bright primary colours, metal and glass finishes • Easily maintained • No Black or Brown!

The Design & Layout

The Floor Plan & Measurements… The sink is from Ikea, it is in the style of a Belfast but not as deep, which is far more practical for the client.

By moving the tall oven unit along and losing the small window, a better layout is achieved. The kitchen ‘triangle’ is now in a better form so that the connection between the hob and the sink is not broken.

Kitchen Finish, Fixtures & Fittings The overall concept for this kitchen design is to be low budget but with more expensive appliances for example the oven, the idea being that the kitchen is affordable yet compromises are not having to be made on the finishes.
