Position Summary: As a member of the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (SKCAC), the Forensic Interviewer will work in collaboration with the partners in the SKCAC to provide training, leadership and capacity building, consultation, and conduct forensic interviews of children and adolescents who are alleged victims of sexual and/or physical abuse according to recognized police and legal standards. This position will be primarily responsible to collaborate with rural communities and Treaty 7 nations in the proximity of Calgary and throughout southern Alberta. The Forensic Interviewer engages in tasks and activities that support the multidisciplinary and multisector approach to child abuse investigations at the SKCAC. The skill set for this position requires professionalism, sensitivity, strong interpersonal skills, ability to accept and assume responsibility efficiently and effectively, and the capacity to make decisions in accordance with the policies and practices of the SKCAC. This position will be involved in active criminal and child protection cases and will have access to extremely sensitive and confidential information requiring a high level of professionalism and diplomacy at all times. Qualifications • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in criminal investigations and forensic interviewing of child and youth victims of abuse and witnesses • Completed training from a recognized child forensic interviewing course • Post-secondary education in psychology, criminal justice or related field from an accredited academic institution is an asset. Related experience or education of a comparable or equivalent level will also be considered • Knowledge of child development, memory, trauma, and the effects of stress and abuse on children and youth • Knowledge of sensitivity to family systems and child victimization • Ability to engage children of all ages in an interview setting and communicate with caregivers in crisis


• Understanding of children living with disabilities and ability to interview children and youth with diverse and unique needs • Knowledge and experience in working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds • Experience with and understanding of a multidisciplinary team approach to child abuse investigations • Experience in providing court testimony based on forensic interviews • Competencies such as ability to research and stay current with leading interviewing practices, leadership, credibility in the field, innovation, mentorship etc. • Awareness of child protection and criminal child abuse investigative procedures • Knowledge of relevant legislation, related government programs and local community resources • Successful completion of an Enhanced Criminal Record Check and Child Protection Check is required • Ability to work flexible hours, evenings and/or weekends as required and willingness to travel Salary range negotiable; position is an annual contract.
