LOG-ON AND LEARN  Each module will consist of narrated Powerpoint presentations, Live online Elluminate discussions, readings, videoclips and Discussion Forum postings that can be completed at your own pace over the month.

An electronic certificate will be provided for the completion of each module and a separate hardcopy certificate will be issued upon completion of the series.

PROGRAM COORDINATORS Lynn Barry, MSW, Ph.D. Candidate, worked as a child welfare investigator for over 20 years with Alberta Family and Social Services and was the Coordinator for Training and Staff Development with child welfare from 1999-2002 before resigning in 2003. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Child Abuse Association (1985) and has coordinated and produced “For the Kids: A Sexual Abuse Training Program for Police and Social Workers” (1989); and “You’re Not Alone: A Child Witness Court Preparation Training Program” (1995). Lynn is now devoted to teaching senior social work courses and conducts regular workshops on child abuse response to police officers, child welfare workers, teachers, day care staff and other community professionals. She conceived and developed both the Calgary Child Witness Court Preparation Program and the Child Abuse Response Certificate Program and remains the director of both programs. She was a lead researcher partnering with RESOLVE Alberta (University of Calgary) to conduct research into “The Impact of Premenstrual Syndrome on Women’s Parenting” and “A 10 Year Review of the Child Witness Court Preparation Program.” She was awarded a 2005 Centennial Medal by the Alberta Government for her contributions in the field of social services. Robin Coghill - For over nine years, Robin developed and managed a victims services program directly responsible for supporting child victims of violent crime. She has personally accompanied dozens of children to court and has prepared hundreds of others to testify. She has mastered facilitating court preparation to children and youth of all ages and has a depth of experience working with children with a variety of challenges including attention deficient hyper activity disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, speech and language challenges, and autism spectrum disorders. Robin excels in finding creative and successful solutions that always ensure the needs of the child remain priority for everyone involved. Aleina Harrower has an outstanding ability to equip advocates to support children throughout the criminal justice system. As a manager, she understands what advocates need to be fully prepared and capable of offering superior service to children and their families. She has prepared dozens of children to testify and her evidence based approach to creating child friendly experiences has resulted in hundreds of child victims avoiding further system induced trauma as a result of disclosing abuse. Jodi Quas, Ph.D is Professor of Psychology and Social Behavior at the University of California, Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in 1998 from the University of California, Davis, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley. Her work focuses on memory development, children’s eyewitness capabilities, consequences of maltreatment and legal involvement on children, and coping with stress and trauma across childhood. She teaches and conducts training for academic and professional audiences worldwide on these topics. She has received numerous awards for her research and teaching, including the 2008 Award for Scientific Early Career Contributions in Developmental Psychology from the American Psychological Association and the 2013 UCI Alumni Award for Outstanding Student Mentorship.
