CONSERVATIONISTS’ TRAIL The conservationists’ trail seeks to revive the landscape and trail elements of the Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’higgins’ past as a counterpoint to the existing urban surroundings.

CONSERVATIONISTS’ TRAIL MOMENT 2: A CONTINUOUS EXPERIENCE The trail is made continuous with mass timber overpasses.

CONSERVATIONISTS’ TRAIL MOMENT 3: CONNECTION TO THE FORMER TRAIL A curve connects the trails on the outsides of the road to the remnants of the republic-era boulevard and path.

WORKERS’ BRIDGE The monuments to the workers speak to the history of the road having been crossed by colonial farmers via a bridge. Today tertiary and quaternary workers exist along the street. There are pedestrian streets leading to it, and yet there is no uninterupted crossing. The monuments are therefore a crossing for the today’s workers to go from home to work and experience the lost and distant river landscape.

The Baker River Fishermans’ bridge waves horizontally and vertically, distoriting perception of the urban grain in the manner of a boat.

In the past, the Inca would have used the mountain as a place to panoramically view the landscape beyond.

The highest point of Cerro Santa Lucia today is reclaimed to be an indigenous cultural landscape.

The tower offers views onto Incan focal topographic points.

A dome frames the horizon to the East for the Tehuelche and the important solar paths during equinoxes and solstices for the Inca as they meet specific mountains.

SITE: WATER & SKY PLAZAS The religious practitioners used the mountain as an element to ascend and immerse themselves in the realm of sky for prayer. An existing plaza is reclaimed to revive these religious experiences.

PLAZA PEDRO DE VALDIVIA (SKY)

The religious practitioners of the Baker River used mountains to decend to the water for emersion FUENTE NEPTUNO during baptisms. The existing (WATER) fountain is reclaimed to give space for religious experiences. The Mapocho River religious practioners’ assencion to the sky compliments this program.

Then a bed focuses views upward.

Above there is a semitranslucent mirror framing the spiritual visitor and water below. This experience corresponds to looking at the surface of the water from within it.

The prayer pavilions are half-spheres pointed up, and clad in mirror. The effect is a natural looking reflection of the sky, with little possibility of reflections of oneself.
