TWO ISSUES POINTED OUT IN THE LAGOON AREA ARE ENCROACHMENT ON ENDANGERED BIRD NESTING AREAS, AS WELL AS SPECIES INTRODUCED BY US THAT THREATEN NATIVE SPECIES TO ADD ON TO THE NESTING AND MIGRATING GROUNDS, A CRITICALLY ENDANGERED STEELHEAD TROUT HAS A FRACTURED SPAWNING JOURNEY BECAUSE OF THE RINDGE DAM THAT SEPARATES THE ROUTE FROM THE LAGOON UP THROUGH MALIBU CREEK. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TOWARDS REMOVAL OF THE DAM, ENCROACHMENT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS WELL IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THESE CRITICAL LINKAGES.
