We are very excited to launch the first ever edition of our brand new magazine giving you news, views and the latest innovations in the Park Home and Holiday Park Industry.

So, what can you expect from Park Focus? Well, every month you will find many articles featuring our members, telling you all about what they have to offer and what makes them stand out from the crowd. We will also be celebrating our award winners and sharing their inspirational stories.

And what about your news? If you have something exciting to share, an open day, an anniversary then why not send us a write up and photo’s and we will try to feature them.

It has undoubtedly been a rough year for people in business and as a hospitality industry the holiday sector was hit heavily. Thankfully for this industry, at least, if you have managed to weather the storm until now then things seem to be on the up.

With people desperate for a holiday, staycation has become one of the latest in a long line of buzzwords and people who have been used to travelling overseas have been booking whatever they can. I believe that people used to venturing abroad will have found some real gems during their journeys.

Speaking of gems, PHHPA Director General, Bradley Chapman visited several during his road trip (which you can read more about throughout this magazine). As an association we wanted to get our name out there, meet our members and start building a community.

Who are we?

Introducing the PHHPA At the Park Home and Holiday Park Association our members are at the heart of everything we do. As an association we are the newest addition into the park home industry. Our mission is clear, we are here to protect, educate, recognise, support and train UK park operators and service providers.

We aim to fully support our members, listen to their needs and respond to them.

Benefits We offer a range of benefits for our members. Each and every member will be able to receive specialist training to help them develop and grow their business.

Here at The Park Home and Holiday Park Association we pride ourselves on providing expert training for our members. We aim to shape the future of UK park operators and support companies within the industry to grow.

Why does the Park Home and Holiday Park industry need a new association?

We know that we are the new kids on the block. We can only assume that this leaves you wondering, what do we have to offer that other, well established associations do not.

We have great respect for the other associations in the arena and have no wish to step on any toes. We feel that one of our points of difference is that we stand firmly with the park home operators and service providers.

Whilst we are happy to take feedback from their customers we will not mediate on their behalf.

Instead all feedback will be seen as an opportunity to improve best practice and as such we will discuss with members how they might improve their customer experience.

Awards We also offer PHHPA regional awards and hold a glamorous end of year GALA awards ceremony where we present our National winners. This is one of the few ways in which we recognise our members for their achievements. Our Director General, Bradley Chapman, is very keen on rewarding people within the industry as he feels people deserve to be rewarded for their hard work and that it will pave the way for others to improve their best practices.

Nominations are open on our website and you are welcome to support your favourite operators and industry suppliers. We recognise the hard work and shining successes of our members by presenting them with their very own awards. Could you be next?

11 Road Trip On our road trip to the south coast, our director general Bradley and our members services representative Tom had the pleasure of meeting Henry Simmons. Our journey began when we arrived at the Simmons Farm Estate. We were instantly amazed by the high-class entrance and the beauty surrounding us.

It was THE perfect place to settle down in our Vaaroom Motorhome and absorb all the scenic beauty around us.

This touring site boasts acres of landscaped grass pitches, situated ideally for anyone looking to explore the Dorset countryside and the famed Jurassic Coast.

We started our morning with a warming cup of coffee, taking in the views around us before we set off on our Simmons adventure. First visit was to Organford Manor Country Park. This park oozed high-class and luxury, from bespoke park home designs to the well-tended surroundings. Upon arrival we met Joe, the sales manager, who drove us around in a buggy.

This is where we were able to capture the park in all its glory. Organford Manor Country Park is located only 6 miles from the Sandbanks Peninsula, which is known to be one of the best beaches in the whole of the UK and renowned for it’s multi-million pound mansions.

With a 360-degree countryside view on site and local wonders just around the corner, it is a dreamy location for a relaxing retirement.

Following this we were taken to the Pinehurst Park Homes where we got to meet the man behind such incredible parks, Henry Simmons. Unsurprisingly, the park was pristine. Prestige designs all over with amazing landscaping.

It quickly became apparent just how dedicated Henry is to his parks and its residents. With residents greeting, smiling, and thanking him all around.

12 It was at Pinehurst Park that we were able to present Henry with the PHHPA regional award to Organford Manor for its outstanding designs, resident care, and luxurious park.

As if coming along and visiting his residential parks was not enough, we were invited to jump into his Maybach for a ride to our next destination. This is where we got to see how a successful park operator gets his work done from the comforts of his luxurious and, quite frankly, mesmerising new car.

Woodlands Park was next. Unlike the previous parks, this visit allowed us to see park home sites from a different perspective. Whilst the others were filled with exquisitely designed homes and landscapes, this park, on the other hand, was a great opportunity to see the construction and development process behind a residential park.

It was impressive to see just how hands-on Henry is with the development of this park, helping and taking part in as much as he can. It was evident throughout each visit just how involved Henry is with the care for his residents and the parks.

Last, but definitely, not least was the Knightcrest Park.

Walking through the park with Henry we were able to see how much he loves what he does. He is a passionate man, always going above and beyond with everything that he does for his residents.

His efforts are clear when you walk through the park, every detail is thought about and everything is laid out to perfection.

Interview During our visit we have also had the opportunity to speak with Mr Simmons, hearing more about his journey within the park home industry. Read further to learn more about Henry.

How long has the family been involved in the park home sector and when did you get involved in the business?

We have been in the industry for over 50 years and have experience with the park home industry. The first park I bought was at Puckeridge and I bought it in 2012 around September time.

How did it feel when you bought your first park? Did you realise that that was going to be the journey? The Henry Simmons' journey.

It was a big step because I used to be in the motor trade, so I had to sell up and take the plunge in that day and age. I had to gather my money together and put it all in one venture and take a step forward in doing the development.

Your parks are of exceptional both the quality and the way you run it.You have been regarded as professional and caring by your residents. Did you start out with the intention of having your parks operate in the way they do now?

I will sort out anything they are not happy with to ensure they are enjoying living on the park. If I take over a secondhand park which has problems, we will resolve the issues and make sure that the park is of the quality that the residents want.

I put my heart and soul in the parks and there is an old saying “if a job is worth doing, do it properly” and I follow this and try to do as good of a job as I can for my customers. You do not always do the right job at the beginning; I have made plenty of mistakes, but I have always learnt from it.

So, you know, come, and talk to us and tell us if there is a problem, ring me, come into the office, email me. You know, let us resolve the problem. Life’s too short.

I try to make sure that the parks are up to my standards and that I would be happy to live there. So, we try to do a nice proper job, we use great materials like granite curbs, we use bigger water pipes so they can connect fire hydrants to them and use bigger drains to limit the amount of flooding.

There are learning curves that you learn along the way, but I always ask myself would I be happy to live in the park as it is? How would I like it done? I am a bit OCD with the parks and developments, and I try to personally get involved to make sure I am happy with the decisions made. You definitely learn a lot in life that is for sure.

Your creative design and flare of your parks are incredible and stunning. As soon as you pull up at the gate it is clear that the park is under the Henry Simmons family brand. As you travel round the site you can feel the quality but also the community. You can always tell if a park's energy is good, and your parks have a beautiful energy. Why is that?

You have a very calm personality and how you come across and I think that reflects on the feeling of your parks.

What are you like when you are under pressure?

No, I just think sometimes if you get it wrong and are under pressure you just have to take it on the chin. We have got plenty of things wrong, we have over ordered on concrete, and we have had to send it back and pay the bill. You know no one is perfect. So, if you are under pressure and you get it wrong you cannot worry about it.

Organford manor is an incredible park which has been developed recently with a lot of mobile homes. Is it correct that Omar has taken an interest in filming the site?

Yes, that is true, they have filmed drone footage in the park and I believe they are going to use it for their social media. I felt very honoured and flattered to receive the phone call about filming in the park.

On that side of the park there are mainly Omar and Wessex homes. Dean, the managing director of Omar, has been very good to me and we work very well together that is for sure. Omar is currently building a new factory in Ringford and they’ll have a showground in the south of England which will be fantastic for us.

Do you think there is a different skill set required for being a residential operator or a holiday operator or is it similar?

We have had touring parks before, when I bought Organford Manor in 2014 and we had a touring park there and we managed it for around 7 years. We had another site as well and I think we had around 250 pitches there and could end up with around 1000 people there, so we are used to dealing with people. I would say we have experience in both aspects of the industry.

What is your definition of success? What makes you successful?

I believe that it is hard work and perseverance I really do, and I think if you put your heart and soul into it. It will make it work and to just get on with it.

Did you ever think that you were going to ‘muck’ it up?

Was there ever a moment where you thought ‘I’ve had enough’? Are you driven by success?

No, not at all, never give up. I am driven by success.

Always driven and up the next morning even earlier.

Final question, what is the future of Henry Simmons and the park?

The future. No, we will just go along and do the best we can. If we can afford to expand, we will just go along and expand in the right locations. It is as simple as that.

It was an incredible experience to come along and follow Henry for a workday in his life. State of the Art PHHPA Director General Bradley Chapman visited Omar’s state of the art manufacturing facility in Hull. It was incredible to see the step-by-step process of the park homes coming together and watching how they create their remarkable bespoke designs.

When you see the finished home at the end, you often forget about the efforts that go into building each and every design. From building the structure and laying the foundations to designing, shaping and fitting each window and door.

Like Minded It was also motivational to see the group culture, working unanimously surrounded by like-minded and forward thinking individuals. There was a true team culture and a camaraderie which was evident throughout the visit, but never more so than when it came to social media.

You never truly know the process of building a park home until you see all the workers come together and collectively work on each home.

OUR STORY

THE PHH We are a driven association with a straightforward vision. We believe that there is an amazing opportunity to help the park home industry grow and support the park operators and service suppliers within the industry.

With this in mind we began building a team with passionate and like-minded individuals. From there, the group began to slowly grow and together we set out to embark on this journey. At PHHPA we have a team with a variety of different skills from website design to members services, all to provide our members with expert guidance and make their businesses even more successful.

Bradley is an entrepreneur and business owner who has trained, coached, and mentored over 20,000 people during his career. Mentored by Europe’s largest park operator, Alfie Best, he has well and truly fallen in love with the park home industry and is eager to help it grow.

We are lucky at PHHPA that Bradley is here to coach, mentor and teach us all skills to help us a lifetime.

Rise of the Footsoldier Origins Premiere 20

Today is the release of the fifth in the Rise of the Footsoldier series. Rise of the Footsoldier Origins introduces the back story of Tony Tucker played by Film Location Properties very own Terry Stone.

My colleague Bradley Chapman and I were privileged to be at the premiere on Wednesday at Cineworld on Leicester Square. It was wonderful to be at an event after lockdown and to see people enjoying themselves.

The red carpet was witness to an array of dresses that would not have been out of place at the Oscars and an array of actors who would also be at home there. Vinnie Jones who plays Bernard was not there because he is currently in America filming Law and Order, but the rest of the cast were out in force.

The film was gritty, fast moving and hard hitting. It is not for the faint hearted or for those offended by swearing as it pins it’s 18 rating on the doorpost right from the get-go.

I watched some of the gorier parts from behind my hands, but it was lightened by some real laugh out loud moments.

It was set in the late 80’s and through the nineties which is a time period I remember well and while Bradley spotted an anachronistic iPhone it really felt of the era.

I interviewed Rachel Warren (touted as the British Margot Robbie) who plays Lucy, Tony Tucker’s girlfriend and discussed how they had managed to film during lockdown.

She put it down to shear determination and hard work.

It was written during the first lockdown, filmed in a four week period during the second lockdown and edited during the third lockdown. I think this added to the fast paced feel of this film. I believe it is was a fantastic accomplishment given the restrictions of the pandemic.

After the film we went on to the Maddox Club in Mayfair.

The Maddox is divided into various rooms and we were privileged to be in with the VIP’s. Throughout there were ice buckets filled with drinks including champagne which were constantly topped up.

People were dancing to nineties anthems and the atmosphere was friendly and fun. Bradley and I left at about 1am as we knew we had a journey ahead of us and would need to be up bright and early the next day but honestly it looked like things were just getting started and would undoubtedly move to an after after party and who knows after that!

PHHPA Awards and Gala

The Park Home and Holiday Park association strives to showcase incredible parks and what companies are doing to grow in the industry. This is one of the reasons that he took the road trip.

What are you hoping to achieve?

Why is visiting our members of important to you?

Our Director General believes that visiting our members is very important. We are an association but we are also a community and it is important now more than ever to make our members feel comfortable. This is why although our first road trip is over we will definitely be visiting our members on a regular basis.

As a Holiday Park operator how could having a digital app help you? According to Kappow Aps founder Mark Lesbirel, a digital experience app makes for happy guests.

This is why he created Concierge Pro, a guest experience app which was launched in March 2020 and is being used by several holiday parks. It can do this in a number of ways.

How long have you been in the industry & How did you start?

Before Arriving Firstly, the app can be downloaded via a QR code before arriving at the destination so guests can decide on activities before arriving. This will also reduce the time they need to spend in check-in which must be a bonus all round.

Secondly, a map can be included with information about key places such as the launderette. The same goes for leaflets that you might have at reception reducing printing cost and the impact on the environment.

Fewer Questions It can reduce questions by including a FAQ and keep guests informed and engaged. Push notifications can be included reminding people of events or sending important notifications. What is more it can all be branded to your own park and is customisable.

But how did Mark come up with this idea? Mark is a keen surfer and originally created an app for surfers telling them about tides and other information to help things go smoothly. It occurred to him that this app was extremely versatile and that if had applications in a variety of industries.

Thus, Concierge Pro was born.

I have been in tech specifically around travel and tourism since the late 1990’s. I used to run a number of projects for VisitBritain, including building their first image library - and suggested they should be moving to digital for many of their printed leaflets and brochures.

On the back of this, I designed and built an email marketing platform used by VisitBritain and organisations like Madame Tussaud’s (Merlin Entertainments), Visit Japan, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, BBC, Bank of Scotland, Abercrombie, and Kent, CQC and more.

I have had a few ‘careers’ but mostly it’s around finding new ways to move from print to digital.

What is your greatest success you have achieved during your companies' career?

How do you think the industry can be improved as we move forward?

Reduce costs and improve guest experience by engaging them on the device they use most. But then, I would say that! Beyond that I am not really sure I am qualified. I am just here to provide the mechanisms to reduce cost, increase efficiency and make for happy guests - through the use of digital tools like apps.

What are the 3 most important principles you live by in terms of managing your business?

Be honest, ask questions, have fun :)

Mark Lesbirel Direct Booking It includes many features including an easily added direct booking tab. Imagine your guests enjoyed their stay and want to book again. Instead of heading to the internet where they might spot your competitor they can book directly through their app.

The app has very high levels of guest engagement so is clearly working for both the guests and the parks. No doubt this is because you can add so much information including web links, reviews, social media, contact directory, local partners, support chat and much more.

Change is difficult for businesses.

Communicating there’s a better way to do things is hard to ... I am still trying :)

What is the last thing you think about when you go to sleep & the first thing in the morning?

Are my kids safe? where are my kids?

What makes a good park operator/supplier?

Support Chat And what if there is an issue in their park home?

Suppose the lights go off. You could have a QR code to take them straight through to a help guide and if that doesn’t help then they could use the support chat.

Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges that you faced in your career & What you did to overcome it?

Listening to your customers and acting on it. It’s the same for any business really.

Do you have anything new & exciting coming up that nobody knows about yet?

Yes. LOADS. As developers we are always looking for new ways to improve and develop our offer. We tend to launch new features and services every few weeks.

How would you like the association to help your business more forward?

Keep doing what you seem to have set out to do. Provide a platform for suppliers and parks to engage via great content.

What are the things that stand in the way of growth?

Communicating that change can be good. Businesses that embrace change (when it's for the better) will be the ones that prosper.

As a lifelong camper I very much appreciate being able to make an impromptu visit to virtually anywhere in the country. Camping though is rather seasonal and although I have camped in the snow when I was young, these days I am a bit more of a fair weather camper. This is one of the reasons I have often thought that a motorhome would be great.

Despite having tried out camping, glamping, and caravanning (both static and touring) it was only this year that I finally tried a motorhome.

Sponsorship Vaaroom, the UK’s number 1 motorhome hire company sponsored the PHHPA to go on our road trip and Bradley Chapman took a meandering trip through Yorkshire followed by another in Dorset.

During the weekend in between, however, it was my turn. I decided to stay closer to PHHPA home turf in Essex as I had limited time and so nipped over the QE2 bridge to Kent. You can see some of my trip on Facebook.

Benefits It had several benefits over a tent. Firstly, we arrived on site, pulled up and were able to put the kettle straight on. It was lovely weather on the day we had it but having spent many hours fighting with wet canvas in the rain this was great. It felt like a real luxury to arrive and be able to relax straight away.

Secondly, we didn’t have to spend time inflating airbeds that would inevitably leak air during the night leaving us sleeping on the floor. Instead, we took up residence on the soft double mattress, which had USB ports available to charge our phones. This is bonus number three and the electric lights at the touch of a button are number four.

The stove is bonus number five, as although I am well used to, and even rather fond of, cooking on a camping stove the cooker in the van also boasts an oven.

Finally, my favourite bonus was not having to wander across the field before for a toilet break. The bathroom was therefore a great favourite with me. As the campsites were open, I had not realised that there were still restrictions in place and so was surprised when I was told that they were unable to open the showers. I was therefore all the happier to have my very own clean bright facilities.

All Mod Cons

Features It was really great fun to try out the Vaaroom Motorhome. As with the rest of their fleet it was very new with less than 30,000 miles on the clock and great to drive. It was a six berth model although they also have 2 berth vans available.

It had a seating area with benches either side of a table which was designed to lower into a second double bed, the first being above the driving compartment. There are also bunks at the rear.

It has a cooker complete with a stove, a sink with running water, a shower and toilet compartment and plenty of storage.

So, my very first experience of a motorhome was one I can highly recommend. The van was clean and had plenty of space for all of our luggage. We enjoyed a game of cards at the table but could have tuned into the TV if the desire had taken us. The vehicle was equipped with pans so we were able to cook ourselves a tasty dinner and have a nice cuppa.

While I suspect that I have not made my final foray under canvas, I definitely appreciated having all mod cons.

He serves as a chairman for various businesses including Europe’s leading Wyldecrest Parks, Kyoto furniture, East Thurrock Football Club, Best Park Home Finance, Sapey Golf Country Club and Vaaroom Motorhome hire. Alfie’s entrepreneurial success has seen him generate millions, allowing him to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. However, it is evident that his success is well earned from hard-work and dedication, keeping him level-headed and humble.

When you think of a self-made millionaire you may think that their success stems from luck. But yet, although there may be moments he identifies as lucky breaks, it is actually his tenacity that helped him achieve everything he has today. Meeting him has shown one thing for certain, he is definitely one of the most industrious individuals you will meet with an inspirational story behind him.

We wanted to hear more from one of the most successful park operators in Europe, so we asked him our 10Q’s.

Q. How long have you been in the Park Home Industry?

A. I have been in the industry, physically working in the industry for about 21 years. But from a heritage point of view, I have been involved and around caravans all of my life. Whether it be caravans, static caravans, or mobile homes. I have been around that all my life.

A. Okay before I started this business, I ran many other businesses. At one point I even got to a point where I thought I was going to retire when I sold out a business.

Which was in mobile phones.

Starting Wyldecrest Parks was the very first mobile home park that had come up for sale in Romford. It was a bit of an anomaly because you were collecting pitch fees or rents for about £120 off of about 130 people. And the price of the park at the time for £1.7 million. We are going back in the year 2000, so that was a lot of money to invest.

Mobile homes parks have been dismissed as good investments because the returns do not look that promising. But, if they are managed right, they’re better than blue chip.

Q. What is your greatest achievement and you proudest moment?

A. On a personal level, I would say it’s raising my children.

That would be the great achievement. Seeing your children do well.

And on a business level, without this sounding obnoxious. I have had so many great achievements.

When I was 25, I built a company that had 18 stores in the mobile communications market.

My greatest achievement was virtually going bankrupt but managing to claw myself out of it. Because that either destroys you or builds you. I think it did both for me.

Q. How do you think you got yourself out of it? What would your trips be for someone who is going through a struggle like bankruptcy?

A. Anybody that has struggles, remove yourself from the situation that you are in. Try looking at it from outside the box as opposed to being inside the box. If you are inside the box, it’s like you’re firefighting. Look at who and what is the most important thing to pay.

Normally it’s the bank. And the first thing to do is be honest with the bank, do not try and hide anything.

Because the banks have seen recessions, they’ve seen booms, they’ve seen busts. They have seen people that have gone under and they’ve seen people that have thrived.

They’re sometimes the best people in the world to help you, even if their only concerned about their money.

They have the experience there. And the next thing is, don’t panic. What’s going to happen is going to happen.

Your job is to keep your hands on the steering wheel, keep driving the car forward. You just have to drive a little bit slower.

Third principle would be, understanding how finance 30 really works. Understanding how you can grow your business, that it is not about cash coming into the business. It’s a model of saving cash, investing cash and making sure that you’re borrowing money at the right figure that you can afford to pay back.

Q. What is the last thing you think about when you go to sleep and the first thing in the morning?

Q. How do you think the industry can be improved as we move forward?

A. Can I improve on my goal of where I want to be. And how could I improve the systems that are in place on getting us to that goal. I also think of the people, and this is what goes through my mind basically on the nightly basis. I think about those around me and the people that are loyal to the cause, to the business. Because my job is to create a dream that they can share.

Q. Do you have any tips for start-up park operators?

A. I think the industry can be improved massively. It has come a long way in the last 50 years and it has got a lot further to go. It’s through companies like us and through new associations like the Park Home and Holiday Park Association who are challenging how people perceive caravan parks and mobile home parks.

A. If you’re starting a business, don’t be frightened. Be nervous, but don’t be frightened. Absolutely join a good association that can help you that you can gain knowledge about the industry, and you can become an expert. It is very important to become an expert in the industry that you’re in.

It’s changing the stereotypical perceptions of many and showing that the park home industry isn’t just about the caravan site. It is the solution to affordable housing.

Companies like us, get a lot of criticism because tall trees catch a lot of wind. So it’s us that takes a lot of criticism from the public. I’ve got broad shoulders, I will continue lobbying for what I believe is right.

Q. Would you say people are born leaders or are they trained and coached to be a leader?

Q. What are the 3 most important principles you live by in terms of managaing your business?

A. It is that you must have a goal. And everybody within that business must share that goal. Everybody must understand the end goal. Because that gives everybody a solid purpose to work towards. That’s number 1.

Number 2. Only have people around you that are committed to the business, not committed to you.

A. Both. Nature or nurture. Some of us are born leaders and some of us are trained and coached to be leaders.

Now if I put this into perspective, I was a reasonably half decent boxer. On a scale of 1-10, I was a 6. As a coach, I was terrible.

The reason I was terrible was because I was trying to relive my own youth through the boys I was coaching.

Now that is a bad coach. A good coach should realise that he has had his time and it’s now time to pass on the experience. And that is the same in business.

Thirdly, do what you love and make sure you love it. If you love it, you will not work. It will just be your glorified hobby.

Q. Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges that you have faced in your career? What did you do to overcome it?

A. Biggest challenge that I ever faced was again, to stop myself going bankrupt. And I would say there’s not 1.

There’s 3.

Second is, trying to balance your personal life with your business life. I can’t say that I’ve been particularly very good at that because all my life I have lived, ate and breathed whatever business that I’ve done. That has a profound effect on you. It has a profound effect on the people that are around you and it is often hard to find the right balance, but it is essential that you do.

Q. Do you have anything new and exciting come up that nobody knows about yet?

A. We are in the process of starting to locate and put together our own manufacturing of park homes. We are also bringing a new team together as we seek to open up our regional office in America. And once that is done, within the next 6 to 8 months we’re going to be going to America and expanding what we do here to there in the US. Q. How do you think an association like the PHHPA can help your business move forward?

31 Q. In your opinion, what are the things that stand in the way of growth?

A. Small-minded people. Small-minded people that have never been in a business. That have never put their house on the line. That have never put their possessions on the line to grow a business. And yet they are there giving plenty of people advice. They are the people that are holding businesses back.

A. It is not so much that I look at how it can help our business. But I believe it can help everybody. And I believe that it can give us all a true voice for the park operators without being frightened to speak up.

I can often see that many park home operators are too concerned that if they say the wrong thing, it will be taken out of context and will be harmful towards their character and their business.

I believe a way it can help us and all other operators is certainly by the training that is being brought on board.

But also, by bringing us together, allowing park owners to feel like they have a true association for the park only.

Presenting: Professor Mark Watson-Gandy

by Kim Wright The PHHPA are proud to introduce Professor Mark Watson-Gandy who has agreed to be our legal advisor. He will be one of the team of highly experienced and knowledgeable professionals supporting our association and no doubt a great asset when we need advice for ourselves or our members.

He specialises in commercial disputes involving banking, company and insolvency law and has won many high profile cases so we know that we are in safe hands.

Achievements This long list of achievements includes being a practicing barrister at Three Stones Chamber and a visiting professor at both the University of Westminster and the University of Lorraine in France.

He is also a Knight of the Order of St Gregory.

He is a columnist for Business Money, the commercial finance magazine and regularly speaks in the media on both legal matters and business education.

He most recently wrote “Simple Contract Law, A Brief Introduction to English Contract Law”, which is available on Amazon.

Author Professor Watson-Gandy is a prolific author and following a long list of heavy law based books published “KidsMBA How to build a Successful Business: Essential Skills and Know-How for Future Billionaires” in 2018. He wrote this because he realised that many companies were going under, not because they were bad ideas but because of fundamental mistakes.

He felt that by giving young people a good grounding in business basics then this high attrition rate (a massive 50% of start-ups fail within the first five years in the UK) might be avoided. As well as writing his book Professor Mark Watson-Gandy founded KidsMBA and, along with a team of experts, developed an intensive 2-day programme providing an introduction to skills and knowledge needed when starting out in a business. The course is aimed at 12-15 year olds and is now delivered under licence in over 40 countries worldwide both live and remotely.

by Demi- Jane Winch PHHPA had the privilege of speaking and interviewing Kirk Norcross, the owner and operator of KN Jet Services.

KN Jet Services provides high-pressure exterior jet washing in Essex. Recently signing a contract with Europe's largest park operator, Wyldecrest Parks, we were curious to hear more from him and about his business.

How long have you been in the Park Home industry?

I have been in the industry for 3 years and the reason i got into the industry i realised there were a lot of people. First of all I got into the residential cleaning services and I just realised that there were a lot of people that were doing work to their house, building work extensions, new roofs and everything like that. I don't know how to build. I've got some training in it to an extent but I thought I saw a load of people building and leaving a lot of mess and not many people maintaining what they already have got.

40 How do you think that the industry can be improved as we move forward?

More knowledge on it for me and for the customer really.

A lot of people say my career is jet washing but it's not exterior cleaning. You don't just want to jet wash everything and I originally thought that everything just had to have high pressure water on it, blasting everything as hard as I could. But that is not the case there's a lot more knowledge; What chemicals are working and soft washing methods. am learning something everyday so for the residential it is quite easy but its learning methods to work to make it easier for you and cheaper for the customer. My aim is longevity so if i can make everyone happy. Its good for the customer and good for me. We all have to earn money at the end of the day. I want to become an expert in my field to be able to help my customers but also to help out other companies. Share some methods and tips and tricks.

You know I could see them ripping up driveways or rerendering their house when they didn't have too. I knew there was a load of jet wash companies but I thought that there was a gap in the market. People don't have to spend the money on a new driveway or a new brick wall like you can clean up your original wall to save money. I am providing an affordable solution at a time where people are struggling with lockdowns, working and the pandemic.

What is your greatest success that you have achieved during your companies career?

It is grabbing the contract with the amazing Alfie Best for Wyldecrest, they have made me a sole supplier of being an exterior cleaner of all the Wyldecrest parks around the country.

That is our biggest achievement up to date and to be honest no matter how big I get to work for or sub-work for someone like Alfie Best that would be the highlight of my career. He is such an acute businessman so for him to want to use my services its quite overwhelming to be honest.

What are the 3 most important principles you live by in terms of managing your business?

R&R is what I come up with for my business. Reliable and responsible. So I am going to be reliable for my customers when I am coming to their house or sending my workers.

I've got to be there on time and on the day because these customers have made changes to their schedule for me.

1 be reliable. And then 2 be responsible for my work even if I have ever made a mistake you have to own up and find a way to work round it. 3 is just a good job as long as the customer is satisfied. You know I like to be happy with all of my jobs and be really happy with what I do but if the customer isn't happy I'm not happy with what I have done.

So reliable, responsible and just making sure that the customers are happy and they are happy with what they are paying for. It doesn't matter if you sell cigarettes in a shop or building a brick wall or jet washing the customers are paying so they have to be happy you know.

What makes a good service provider?

A good service provider is someone who gives the results that they initially told them they were going to give. You I actually messed up my first sealing, after a driveway you can't tell them one thing and give them another. You know normally seal it it's not a big thing but it really got me that is sort of selling them a lie basically. down. When I messed up the driveway it was my first year As long as the customer is happy paying for what they got. in the business and it actually made the driveway look Even if they have agreed to the price as long as they are worse than it did originally and it cost me a lot of money. happy that they have a service and for my own satisfaction But luckily enough I knew someone else in the business , am I happy with what I did on that day? I always look at it and I paid for them to repair it but also asked for them to as if I would be happy if I paid someone to do this at my teach me. It wasn't a big thing but it really got me down house and that is how I treat everyone's house as if it was a and really hit me hard. It was my first year on the trade and builder coming to my house. it was embarrassing for me.

I owned up and admitted to my mistakes and yeah that was a challenge. The biggest challenge I have coming up to date is this contract for Alfie Best. It's a lot of responsibility and I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what the best way to move forward is? Do I spend out the money to get vehicles and more staff of my own or do I subcontract the work out on behalf of KNJet Services. It's really risky before I would have spent the money on vehicles and got a lot of workers out there but with COVID this could happen again, we could get another lockdown or pandemic. It's so scary to take the next step. The scariest thing is the Alfie Best contract.

I love what I do and it's the best thing I could ever think of doing. People could be billionaires, millionaires. I just love what I do. It's enough money for me to live on and I genuinely love what I do.

Do you have anything new and exciting come up that nobody knows about yet?

Yeah the Alfie Best contract not many people know about.

I've gone from being a residential cleaner from cleaning houses to potentially taking on one of the biggest jet washing contracts in the country. 1 to get a chance to work with Alfie Best and 2 to take a contract with Wyldecrest parks is phenomenal.

Yeah it's a big thing and that's why it's so scary because it is a big jump for someone who is 3 years in. I'm still new at what I do. It's very overwhelming and Alfie would have only given it if he thought I was good enough. you don't just pull stuff out of thin air.

Alfie said to me I have been looking at your business and I love the hard work that you have been doing and putting in. His exact words were “hard work reaps rewards and the reward I would like to give to you is a cleaning contract for my 26,000 residents”.

What is the last thing you think about when you go to sleep and the first thing in the morning?

The last thing I think about is everything. Have I checked everything? When I get in bed when I have work the next day, which is most of the time I have, I think I am ready to start the job as soon as I get to the customer's house.

There is nothing worse than when a tradesman comes to your house and goes i just got to do this or pop out and get something.

I make sure I am ready to start as I get to the customer's house, is the machinery all fixed? Do I have the right chemicals, enough water, enough fuel? That's what I think about before I go to sleep. It's the second I finish the last job it's am i ready for tomorrow? Am I ready for the customer?

43 How do you think an association like the PHHPA can help your business move forward?

Get my name in the parks really. If you, Alfie, Bradley could say what could we do to get my name in there.

As a park owner, you have to let your residents know that you have a standard to follow even though they own their homes the park has to be kept at a certain level. If a potential buyer walks in and sees these terrible looking houses that are dirty, they aren't going to be quick at purchasing .

You have to think about your park and your image. It's not about the residents, it's about you. You have to tell your customers we do have a cleaner on board and you suggest that you use him. Everything is an image. It's terrible than the world is like that but it's the way it is .

In your opinion, what are the things that stand in the way of growth?

At the moment Coronavirus is. For me personally what stands in the way of growth is other people trying to set up a business because they have seen a company do good.

For example, say if they have seen my company do good and then they try to set up one. They are affecting my work and other professional jet washing and exterior cleaning companies.

It does affect me loads because I am trying to progress and be a successful company and you have got people that are just thinking of opening the business for quick cash. it affects me, it really does. I should have progressed majorly during the lockdown but I've noticed quite a few people setting up jet washing companies purely as they see it's popular. It has affected my growth rate.

It is sad as we have people like you who are really passionate about your business and want to do it more than just a year and you have people that just come in because they see it's popular and profitable.

Exactly I have people, I use Facebook very much for my advertising because I researched a lot into Facebook as they spent a lot money to make sure that Facebook is accessible to everyone. So I thought why not use their free process to market my company?

I use it to promote and I have people message me about quotes. However, the same issues are occurring here where I provide quotes and the new companies are stealing my customers by giving quotes which are unreasonable. You can't take people's customers if they don't like my quotes and go to others but don't just say whatever he is going to give you. I'll do it cheaper as it undermines my work completely.

It's terrible but i won't change my prices because I provide a quality standard of work. If I quote a job at £300 and they ask for it at £150 I say no because I can't provide the proper standard of work I pride myself on.

My work is good work and the prices are fair for the quality.

If someone says can you paint the Mona Lisa for £100 the answer is yes but it wouldn't be of good quality and wouldn't make the customer happy. I pride myself on the services that I provide and it is evident as I am succeeding and have won a huge contract with Wyldecrest parks.

The PHHPA Team!

As you are probably aware the Park Home and Holiday Park Association is new. We are a start-up. If you have a business or some other enterprise that you have started, then you may relate to our story.

The PHHPA Ltd was founded on the 24th of May 2021. At this point all we had was a mission to support the park home and holiday park industry, its operators, and suppliers.

We needed a website, a directory, a magazine, training programmes, staff, social media outreach, an awards programme… you name it!

Three months on and we have a website, we have run our first training webinar and you are reading our first magazine. We have achieved this with the help of some wonderful, hardworking, and often hard-pressed staff.

We have made our fair share of mistakes, such as creating a .com before realising that we needed a .org and calling Bradley Chapman our Managing Director before realising that associations have Director General. But we learn from our mistakes. Every mistake is a lesson. It is how we grow and make better decisions for the future.

Our website has had glitches and our magazine has had numerous design changes. We have also created other websites: the Bliss Group which are basically added bonuses for our members. These were created by our web developer John, learning new tools, and working to exacting standards.

So fast forward and you will dash past the building of our social media by Deimante. The creation of our YouTube videos, many of them by creative Charmine. And our magazine which has mostly been the work of myself and our creative team including Demi who has also been planning our events.

I am also off with something that makes me feel drunk, dizzy, and sick, but without any of the joy of getting drunk and Deimante gets pinged!

She has been in direct contact with a friend who has had a positive test. She has to leave taking her computer to work from home. She takes a PCR test but is unable to come in again until she has had a negative test.

This is just at a point where we are ankle deep in both social media and magazine work. Needless to say, that there was quite a bit of firefighting as working remotely means that it is much harder to bounce ideas off of each other.

Thankfully, I was able to return the next day, but our social media manager would not be back for another two days.

Having finally received a negative test she headed in on the train. I cannot tell you how joyful I was to be driving to the station to pick her up. It wasn’t exactly the pingdemic that many companies have experienced but it certainly impacted us.

The truth is that for any new enterprise, in our case an association, but for you it might be a new park or setting up a new business, the first few months take a tremendous amount of effort. If you look on it like a plane taking off, then it is like taxiing up to the runway.

Each setback is like the air traffic controllers keep holding you. Finally, they say you can leave, and you push the control leaving forward as far as it will go. The plane makes an immense amount of noise, and you can feel it juddering until finally it begins to edge forward.

We were gradually speeding up as we stove forward, there were some big judders and we finally felt ourselves lift.

Now we just need to get to cruising altitude! But with our mission in mind, we can only grow and get better.

Alfie Best featured on ITV's Undercover Big Boss...

Anybody watching ITV’s new show, which launched on Thursday 5th August 2021, Undercover Big Boss will have seen that the first episode featured one of PHHPA’s founding members Alfie Best.

Alfie, chairman of Europe’s number one park home operator Wyldecrest Parks, donned a disguise and went undercover in his own business. He went from multimillionaire entrepreneur to William Finney a drainage engineer looking for a change in career.

Disguise Despite being famously well known on his parks the disguise was convincing enough to hide his identity from the staff he was working with. He certainly looked like a different person!

Alfie, AKA William first went to visit a residential park in Preston. There he met Julio who had been working at the park for the past two owners and had been with Wyldecrest for the past two years since they took over the park.

Getting stuck in Julio was the long suffering maintenance man and allround good guy who worked with “William”. He worked tirelessly and Alfie said it was hard to keep up! Alfie did not back away from cleaning the drains and even pulled out the wet wipes and fat which were creating the blockage.

He later said that he quite enjoyed doing the drains despite them being a bit smelly.

Next Alfie Best visited Port Haverigg Marina, a gorgeous holiday park in the Lake District. Here he met Richard their onsite sales executive.

It’s a Mystery!

But wait … who is that couple? Disguised behind a cap and glasses was none other than PHHPA Director General Bradley Chapmen with Director Kim Wright also undercover. Our task was to mystery shop as difficult customers.

Pretending to be a married couple, Kim and Stephen Jones, we asked if they could move the mobile home back two feet. We knew that this would only be possible by moving the entire home, moving the utilities and relaying the base!

Secondly, we said we wanted a view of the sea. He took us to a plot which will have a beautiful new home sited on it in a prime location fronting the marina. Here I complained that it would be too noisy. Sorry Richard!

50 Finally, Alfie visited Bockenfield Park in where he met with independent bar owner and single mother Donna. She looked somewhat taken aback by his lack of ability to pour a pint, but he was soon producing beers with a regular amount of head and even called the bingo.

The people he had met and worked with were then invited to Alfie’s Surrey mansion where he surprised them by revealing who he was. He then announced what he was going to do to improve things.

Complaints Procedure From what he had learned working with Julio, plans were put in place to improve the complaints process. This would mean fewer problems would fall to Julio directly. Alfie also gave Julio a well-earned pay rise and a bonus of £5000. I am sure this was greatly appreciated.

Barbados Richard from Port Haverigg was asked if he wanted to progress from being a salesman to being a director eventually. Alfie said that he needed to be able to make decisions about the business in order to progress. Alfie also offered him and his family an all-expenses paid two week holiday in Barbados.

Finally, Alfie met Donna. She had been considering giving up at the end of the season if things did not pick up. Part of the problem was that her current premises was too small. The club, however, is the heart of the site.

Recognising this, Alfie decided to invest a quarter of a million pounds into expanding the club and adding a swimming pool.

I found the whole show very touching, especially Alfie’s relationship with his family. If you haven’t watched it then I can highly recommend it.

In August many fans and followers of Alfie Best had an opportunity to watch him go undercover and truly see his business in all its glory. During the episode, William Finney (Alfie Best) visited a number of different parks and met the staff that are part of the Wyldecrest Family.

But whilst the star of the show continued to learn more about the ins and outs of his business, PHHPA too was able to join the gypsy multi-millionaire.

Always proactive though this is only the latest in a long list of community projects which he has worked on.

What does this mean for park operators?

Following the new regulations, from 1st October 2021 park operators must be a fit and proper person to lawfully operate a park home site or have a fit and proper site manager in place (unless you are exempt).

What will the local authority consider?

The capability of the said park operator /manager to secure the proper management site Management and financial arrangements of the site Prior conduct of the individual (e.g. criminal convictions, breaches of legislation) Behaviour of relevant individuals towards others (through work, socially etc).

Any other relevant matters

What happens if the site continues to operate without the fit and proper persons test?

Continuing to operate in contravention of these regulations is a criminal offence.

Failure to comply could result in negative sanctions and could be given an unlimited fine.

It is also an offence for an occupier to withhold information from or include false or misleading information in a registration application.

The local authority can apply to the FTT for a site licence to be revoked where there has been a contravention of the regulations by the licence holder.

What must a site owner do?

Residential and/or retirement park owners operating a site must apply to their local authority for the relevant person to be included in the local register of fit and proper persons to manage a site.

What makes a site exempt?

It is exempt if it is a family occupied site.

This means they are only occupied by members of the same family and are not run on a commercial basis.

What decisions can a local authority make on an application?

1. Grant the full application and include them on the register 2. Serve a preliminary decision notice (applicants have 28 days to make a written representation).

Mindset of the Successful Have you ever wondered what makes some people super-successful. Some people will suggest it is just luck but while luck might have played its part it is never the whole story. It has been said by a number of these “lucky” individuals that “the harder I work the luckier I get!”

It is widely acknowledged that top performers have a different mindset to most of us mere mortals but what is the difference that makes the difference?

Richard St John is known as a success expert and he has certainly had a great deal of success in his life, however, what makes him an expert in this field is studying successful people.

He set out, like a modern day Napoleon Hill, to interview the successful people to find out what they had in common. What made them successful.

He identified eight secrets of success which he shares in amusing and extremely short TED Talk!

These eight secrets are extremely simple and so can be put into a talk of less that three minutes long, however, I would suggest that simple does not translate as easy … if it did then success would be a breeze.

You will forgive me then as I ask you to read on rather than zipping off to see what Richard St John has to say as I unfold these secrets with a little of my commentary and quotes of some extremely successful people.

Passion It is said that if you do what you love you will never work a day in your life. I am not sure that many businesspeople would agree with that, especially in the light of the comments that they make about work. I do believe, however that they believe it is essential for success.

The truth is I suppose that if you love what you do, if you are passionate about it then you don’t mind putting in the hard hours, taking the risks, continuing in the face of adversity and ignoring the naysayers.

Being passionate will make you motivated. This is the kind of motivation that comes from within. Occasionally we all need a bit of a pep talk, a bit of an uplift and that is why motivational speakers do so well.

This kind of motivation though does not hold though.

Being passionate will help you stay motivated during the tough times.

Building a business is hard, hard work and there will be times when you want to give up, where you think you cannot move another step, where you feel that you have given everything you have to give. The COVID 19 pandemic will have taken many businesses to the very limits. Passion will be what helped people survive.

It also feels fantastic to be doing what we love. There will be moments when we are struggling but when we look overall at what we are doing it will give a sense of satisfaction.

Practice, practice, practice!

According to Malcom Gladwell’s book Outliers it takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve mastery of complex skills.

That being the case, if you practiced for three hours a day intensively then it would take you a little over 9 years to gain expertise in that skill.

Daniel Coyle, in his book The Talent Code explores why practice is so important. Whenever we do a new activity or learn something new, we create neural pathways. As we practice, we create myelin these neural pathways develop myelin sheaths.

These sheaths strengthen the pathways which help the impulses to travel more quickly. The more we practice the thicker the myelin thickens and the thicker it becomes the more established the pathway becomes. He writes: ““To sum up: it's time to rewrite the maxim that practice makes perfect. The truth is, practice makes myelin, and myelin makes perfect.”

Focus Focus is essential when it comes to achieving success. If we try to do too many things and hedge our bets, we spread ourselves too thin. We will never achieve that expertise we need if we are trying to be jack of all trades. I am not suggesting that you can build a business without knowing how to do most of the jobs involved.

Most of us need to do our own marketing, our own book-keeping and our own admin to start with. But we need to become experts at our core offering. We need to live and breathe our product.

This is of course not the only way to create something that people will buy. Q. What is the last thing you think about before you go to bed, in terms of business?

Q. How long have you been in the Park Home Industry?

A. I've been in the park home industry for about 9 years and started off by getting a call out to do a roof on a park home and it sort of flourished from there and then went into actual park homes as opposed to just roofing and the business flourished and sort of grew.

Q. Would you say you grew instantly or was it like a work in progress?

A. No it sort of just clicked, it felt like it was what I was meant to be doing and everything sort of fell into place really. There have been some hurdles along the way but you know there are always ways around them or over them or through them if it comes to it.

Q. What is your greatest success that your business has achieved?

A. We love to get a lot of feedback from our customers.

We want to continuously understand what their needs are and what they want. Because unless you’re supplying what you want, then you’re not really doing well are you.

Q. How do you think the industry can be improved as we move forward?

A. I think it can be improved in a lot of ways to be honest.

I’d say one important thing to do is maintenance plans that we do which I think it’s important and not many people do that. It needs to be worked on and put forward a bit more. A lot of customers need a lot of jobs done and are breaking the bank for them.

Q. What would you say are the most important principles that you live by in terms of managing your business?

A. I’d say customer service. Making sure that the customers are always happy and satisfied with the service. Making sure that the job is fully understood and making sure that the guys are doing a good job. Making sure that we keep a good schedule and get everything done to the best of our ability. Keep a tight ship and take care of our customers.

Q. Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges that you have faced within your career?

A. There’s nothing that we have faced that has been extremely challenging. Just always ensuring that the jobs we are doing are to the best of our ability and that our customers are completely satisfied to avoid any troubles.

A. It really depends on the day. There is always something on my mind. Whether it be the next day, the current day or something in months time. I’m always thinking ahead. Always something to do with the business.

Q. What would you say makes a good park operator and supplier?

A. Park operator - it's just maintaining the parks and listening to the residents. Seeing what their needs are for the actual park. We see a lot of park operators that are very neglectful of their parks, a lot of them have a bad reputation which is never a good thing.

Supplier - maintaining great customer care and satisfaction. Making sure that you’re listening to what your clients need and that you’re following through with what they want.

Q. Do you have anything new or exciting coming up?

A. We have the maintenance plan - it’s a £30 a month plan, where a customer calls us up and we do an initial property survey for them, checking to see if there’s any problems.

If there are any existing problems then we sign them up and every 2 years we come and do a survey on their property. And every 4 years we book them out and paint their house free of charge.

Check if there’s any damage to their property, for example, damp on their walls and we help them out and do any damage control free of charge too.

Q. How would you like the PHHPA to help you with your business?

A. I’d like you to work with the park operators. When they’re selling any new homes, they can put our maintenance plan out there.

Q. What would you say stands in the way of growth?

A. The thing that stands in the way is probably...sleep. No but really, it’s more finance related. Ensuring that you have a great plan and are not taking in more than you should. Get your name out there and grow your brand awareness. Ensure you’re marketing your company correctly.

The trials and tribulations of a start up Park 72 Home Operator

by Kim Wright Starting your own park is a huge undertaking and there are many steps and processes.

Let me take you behind the scenes to meet one of our members. Let me call him Kevin Matthews. Kevin and his family own a plot of land which they have decided to develop. This is not the simplest of plans because different members of the family have different ideas about the best way to go forward.

It is a long-drawn-out process because Kevin wants to create a holiday park, another family member feels that a residential park would be better and yet another says they should just put-up houses and sell them. It is decided in the long run that they will go with a holiday park due to the stunning location of the land.

Again, though the decision is not easy. Should they create a camping or glamping site? Should they put on mobile homes? Or perhaps they should go with lodge homes.

Kevin’s mind swings back and forth. A camping and glamping site would be cheaper to establish but then they would have to advertise continuously and there is a possibility that the plots could stand empty for long periods. Mobile homes could also be rented out or they could sell them to owners and charge an annual fee for the site.

Sadly for Kevin, he doesn’t yet have a certificate of lawful use. Perhaps you might have a piece of land which does though. A Certificate of Lawful Use is the holy grail of parks permissions. If you have a plot which has had a caravan where someone has lived in for at least ten years, it is likely that you would be granted a Certificate of Lawful use.

Back to Kevin’s land though, he needs to get services brought in. Again, what is the best option? Obviously, he must bring in water and electric, however, what about broadband? Should the site be futureproofed? Kevin believes they should but there is a large cost implication and other members of the family feel that it is not worthwhile. After all…don’t people go on holiday for peace and quiet. Kevin believes that kids who are used to easy access to the internet are not likely to provide much peace if they cannot get on!

And what about gas. Many parks are on mains gas while others use bottled gas. How long is gas going to be used though? Kevin has heard that people are moving away from gas and that it might be turned off.

The same goes for lodges but they are more expensive to purchase meaning this is still a more expensive option.

With the more expensive upfront costs though come various perks and a somewhat larger profit. It was eventually decided that the lodge homes would sit better in the plot and so this is they way they decided to go.

Another thing that they also consider is installing charging points for electric cars. There is talk of petrol being phased out and this being the case then charging points will become more and more important. There is also the question of whether to have a parking area for them or whether to place one by each home as it is sited.

Having decided that they would like to create a lodge park they now had to obtain permissions. This is a long process involving a bunch of forms all including Lodge Park Planning Permission. They also had to consult a number of bodies to ensure that they would be operating inside the law.

Creating a site is a labour of love and requires a lot of personal sacrifice. Is it worth it? Well, it is currently one of the fastest growing industries in the UK at the moment so there is certainly a business opportunity. The question is whether you are willing to go through the process.

They needed to plan well in order to use the land to best effect and still obey all of the rules regarding spacing to obey fire regulations etc., but they eventually had a plan and were all set to make the application.

Getting the permission is not guaranteed so Kevin and his family were left on tenterhooks waiting for it to be approved. Eventually, they received permission for 20 lodge parks.

Great. All they need to do now is put them up, right? Well not really. There is still an option to build in stages. They would need to keep the units close together as a phase one development.

Hoburne Ltd welcome a new CEO

Omar Group announced this month that the promotion of Graeme Craig to the position of Group Chief Executive. They said “This is a reflection of the exceptional contribution Graeme has made, steering the business through a global pandemic and into a new phase of growth and expansion”.

Hoburne have appointed Jim Forward as their new CEO. Jim will take over from Rod Tucker, who will be retiring from his position of managing director at the end of this year.

We at Park Focus would like to congratulate Graeme on his new post. Given all of the recent expansion that the group has also announced it sounds as if he will be busy.

The group recently announced a new manufacturing facility for premium single holiday homes in Ringwood, Dorset. Alongside this, UK Sundecks have expanded and relocated to a larger facility near Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

Jim was recently chief commercial officer for Riviera Travel and has had an impressive 25 year career in the holiday sector.

According to their announcement “Jim will help build upon the incredible work already undertaken by Rod and Rod will stay with Hoburne until the end of the year supporting Jim with his transition and will remain as a nonexecutive for Hoburne”.

Hill Brothers Residential and Leisure Parks New Park

Beacon Fell View, in Longridge was sold to Hill Brothers Residential and Leisure Parks in one of the UK's biggest deals of its type so far this year.

Hill Brothers said it is looking to grow further, and Tom Hill said: "i would like to thank Hagans Leisure. We see it as a great opportunity to expand our portfolio in the Ribble Valley, as parks of this quality and size don't often come to the market in the North West, and we looks forward to further expansion in this sector".

The 4* holiday park is set in around 35 landscaped acres overlooking Dilworth Upper Reservoir in the Ribble Valley. it is licensed for a total of 419 caravans and has planning consent for further lodge development. facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a bar, an amusement arcade, a gym and an entertainment venue with food and beverage offer.

Wyldecrest Parks lead by Alfie Best have completed the acquisition of 2 new parks taking their total to 93 parks now.

Wyldecrest have also completed on Wilby Park in Wellingborough Northampton. This well established park boasts of 85 park homes.
