■ On the 27th of January, 2010, the Medical Student Association (MSA) at Alfaisal University held a ceremony to honor
the students who participated in MSA’s Summer Research and Training Program, under the patronage of his Royal Highness Prince Abdul-Aziz bin Ahmed bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud. The program was done with the cooperation of several main hospitals in Riyadh, including King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Kingdom Hospital, AlHabib Medical Center, and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. This program introduced Alfaisal Students to training in research fields such as stem cell and genetics research. The training also was extended to an introduction in basics of the protocols used in medical labs, radiology departments, in addition to an orientation of the medical students to the basics of doctor-patient relationship, preparing Alfaisal Students to serve their community with professional standards. The ceremony was held at King Faisal Palace on campus. His Royal Highness excused himself from attending for he had an urgent mission, and delegated his Office Manger, Mr. Saad Albaez for the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by the heads and representatives of the program’s partners, in addition to representatives of Dalah Hospital, Al-Mishari Hospital, The Saudi Germany Hospital, Specialized Medical Center, Saudi Alzheimer’s Disease Association, and the University Diabetes Center. The ceremony was initiated with recitation of The Holy Quran, after an opening speech by Abdullah AlShammari, MSA Social Representative. After that, the very articulate Vice President for Student Affairs of Alfaisal University, Dr. Abdulhameed AlAbduljabar, gave a welcoming speech. Dr. Khalid Al-Kattan, Dean of College of Medicine, stated that the vision of Alfaisal has now come into reality and that he congratulates all on its creation. This was followed by a word from Ahmad Adi, MSA Student Development Representative, thanking and congratulating the students and the partners for the success of the program. A short documentary movie was shown about the Summer Program produced by Press Photographer Bilal Alturkmani. Mr. Saad Albaez with Dr. Khalid and Dr. Abdulhameed distributed appreciation certificates to the students, and thanking letters to the partners who attended. Insha’Allah, such a program shall become a strong foundation whereby students can build upon valuable experiences and relationships for years to come.
