Local knowledge is invaluable. We don’t just know property prices,
we understand the communities, schools, transport links, and the little details that make each area special. Staying connected comes naturally to us; we live and work here, support local events, and keep close relationships with local businesses.
What do you think are the key qualities of a great estate agent?
Integrity, clear communication, attention to detail, and determination. Clients need to know you’re working tirelessly for them, that you’ll give honest advice, and that you’ll handle every step with care.
Looking back, is there a particular property or sale that stands out as especially memorable?
One that stands out was a period property with incredible gardens. It had been in the same family for generations, and finding the right buyer who appreciated its heritage was incredibly rewarding.
How do you handle the more challenging parts of the job –whether it’s tricky chains or emotional clients?
Patience and problem-solving are key. We keep everyone informed, tackle issues as they arise, and focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry today?
Be prepared to learn constantly, work hard, and always put the client first. Your reputation is your most valuable asset.
What do you love most about living and working in Derbyshire?
The mix of stunning countryside, charming market towns, and a strong sense of community. It’s a place where quality of life comes first.
Has living in Derby shaped your approach to work?
Definitely. This is an area where relationships matter and word travels fast, so you learn quickly that integrity and service are everything.

My name is Joseph, and I’m the founder of Verdant Landscape & Design.
Back in the early 2000’s I was working at a local building society, staring at the same four walls every day. I knew I needed something more meaningful, something needed to change. A challenge, where I could create with my own hands and see tangible results at the end of each day.
That is when I chose a career in landscape design, a path where creativity, craftsmanship and nature come together.
When I first started out, the business was called JTW
Landscaping, simply my initials. But as time went on, it became far more than just me. It grew into a team, a community of clients, and a vision larger than my own name. I wanted a brand that reflected that growth.“Verdant” means lush, green, and full of life - everything a garden should be. It perfectly represents our passion and sets us apart.
