Foundation A scholarship fund has been established in the memory of Alex Cabrera. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to select graduating seniors from Weehawken High School, P alisades Park Jr./ Sr. High School and North Bergen High School. During his short, yet memorable 12 years, Alex infused his optimism and cheerfulness in the hearts of all those with whom he crossed paths. Alex passed away in 1989 during the beginning of his 6th grade year at Webster Elementary School in Weehawken, NJ, where he was a classmate of current Palisades Park Superintendent, Dr. Joseph Cirillo. The Alex Cabrera Foundation was established in 2015 by educators and friends, Mrs. Pura Cabrera (sister of Alex and current North Bergen teacher) and Dr. Cirillo, with the intention of memorializing Alex and his love of learning. This scholarship aims to recognize a student who exhibits the same v ivacious passion for life, knowledge and people that Alex possessed, and to help defray the ever-rising costs of college for a deserving student. APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 18th, 2018 Eligibility Criteria: ● Graduating Senior ● Any graduating student attending a 2 or 4 year institution ● Students with a disability will be given additional consideration Application Requirements: 1. Minimum 150-word, typed, double-spaced essay on the Human Characteristic Of Optimism Thought starters: ○ What does optimism mean to you? How do you feel that you embody this characteristic? ○ Describe a time when your optimism directly influenced someone or a time when you yourself were impacted by another person’s optimism. 2. Reference Letter ○ One letter of recommendation from a teacher/school personnel stating why they believe you deserve this scholarship.

Scholarship Payment: Scholarship funds will be made payable to recipients following proof submission of school-related costs (i.e. books, living expenses, tuition, etc.) incurred for the attended college or university during the first enrolled semester.
