Physical Model

With an imaginary double in-fill site, the scope of this project was to consider how we might more purposefully design a facade.

My design was largely inspired by a edge condition detail Carlos Scarpa uses in his designs.

When viewed in elevation, all windows and doors are hidden.

This allows the design of the facade to take full effect and without a door, the scale of the building is easily abstracted in a very playful way.

I enjoyed experimenting with the stepping effect to produce the most desirable forms. The physical model photos are where this project really shines. Through iterative design, I was able to achieve a blurring of light effect that I found very compelling. Additionally, the entire model was cut by hand while my dominant hand was in a full arm cast. Despite its simplicity, I included this project to show how I could still perform under unexpected problems.

Uplift Academy

For this project we worked with non-profit in Philadelphia that organizes architects, zoning planners, and code officials who all work pro bono to support local companies with the design phase of new construction projects. This project was one that was very near and dear to me because it was the first project I worked on where I interacted very directly with the end-users. Fatima, the owner of a daycare had bought a plot of land and was going to shift her daycare / nursery to the new location. Through meetings with her and even asking the kids to draw some of their ideas, we were able to create a design that accommodated their needs.

This work is just in preliminary design and may never even be built. But now, empowered with these images and plans and sections, she can begin to fund raise for the construction.

This is easily my favorite project I have worked on across my internships so far because my project manager allowed me to have a large amount of latitude when designing it.

 

Eatontown Police Dept.

 

This project included a new renovation and addition to the Eatontown police department. Working with my project manager, he gave me the interior plans and I designed a facade and created renders to showcase the project.

The facade design I settled on was one grounded in context. The long rectangular windows referenced existing conditions of the municipal building next to this new one. Working in Revit, I pushed the boundaries of the families to create this irregular fins and integrated them into a special family so my project manager could reuse them if he wanted to redesign the facade but maintain the notable windows.

 

 

 



   

New Jersey High School

The New Jersey High School is a new construction project in northern New Jersey. This was the first project I modeled in Revit and also to date the largest project in term of sq. feet. I tried to populate the gathering areas where I wanted views with as much entourage as possible to make the spaces feel lived in.

This project was the one I worked on when learning how to utilize Revit. This project was very frustrating because I did not fully understand how to use Revit yet and I had to build a full exterior model from just plans, sections and elevations. What I loved about this project though was that since it was so challenging it prepared me for many of the projects to come and I quickly picked up Revit over the course of a week or two while working on the renders for this project.










