For the annual University of Arkansas fashion show, I was directed to generate a garment that embodies something . I was inspired by the lost fashion moguls that still influence todays trends, long after their names are forgotten. Sharon Tate immediately came to mind, as she inspired many with her flowerchild, modern, down-to-earth style in the sixties. We are seeing this decade make its entrance back into the fashion world as nifty trends are becoming mainstream with newer generations. The design I created was taken from a photo of Sharon on the beach in 1968, but implemented with a 21st-century twist.

Drawing inspiration from life + culture in the heart of the Ozarks, Fayetteville’s Funky Flea Market collects vintage clothing + collectibles from over 40 eclectic vendors all within a space of a 110-year old depot. With the original owners leaving and fresh faces coming in 2020, there was a need to solidify the Funky brand and reach wider markets. I was given the opportunity to kick off branding of funky by designing + hand painting groovy murals and directional signs.

The owners brought me a problem they were having – their clothing items were not selling! I brainstormed a new floorplan and organizational flow to the clothing booths located around the store. I knew immediately we needed to have structure and purpose in the new layout to make the space functional, while also creating unique displays that represented the ‘funky’ brand to catch the customers eye.
