Driving Directions

Getting Here

There's plenty of off-street parking outside and we're located just off of the South Circular making it an easy location to get to. HERE is the Google Maps link to our house, just enter your starting point and it should bring you straight to our door!! Please note: whilst we are not located in the Ultra Low Emission zone, as you exit Forest Hill and head towards central London, it becomes the ULEZ, so please keep an eye out for signage on your way to our house! You can check your vehicle and where the rule applies HERE.

By Train

Our closest station is Forest Hill (Overground) which is a short 6 minute walk away from our house. We're also not too far from Sydenham Hill or Sydenham should they be preferable. We find Citymapper is the best way of working out your route around the city, and it'll give you directions by foot, train, bike or taxi (they used to have a parachute option but not sure that one landed...literally!!)

Planning Your Arrival

Key Safe Code & Entrance Instructions

We’ll provide you with a passcode to the key safe on the day of your arrival.  This will allow you to check yourself into the property. There will be a single key inside for our front door. Simply twist to unlock and push the handle down to enter. Please make sure you lock the front & back door each time you leave the property, you will need to lift the handle to engage the lock and then twist the key. If the door is locked correctly, you won't be able to push the handle down. Please make sure you return the key back to the keysafe and ensure its fully locked before departing.

Keysafe:  This is located on the wall as you enter the property. If you're facing the front door, do a 180 degree turn and it'll be on the left hand side.

Check-in Time

Your check-in time is 3pm. We can sometimes arrange an early check-in, so please contact us if you plan to arrive early and we'll do our best to accommodate you (we can’t promise, unfortunately). If you are arriving early, have a look at the “local area guide” section. We've listed lots of things you can do around the area while you’re waiting to check in.

Getting Yourself Oriented

With a world class museum, picturesque Victorian houses, a swift commute into the City and acres of green space, it’s no wonder that Forest Hill is one of London’s most up and coming areas. While this neighbourhood was already very popular with young families, the extension of the Overground here has cemented this pocket of South East London as a desirable location for City workers, with journeys to Canary Wharf now under 20 minutes. Nestled in the south west corner of the borough of Lewisham, Forest Hill has also begun to make a name for itself as a place buzzing with creative energy, as a number of exciting new art galleries have opened, and local artists regularly exhibit their work to the public. This is further enhancing the area’s strong community ethos, and residents can often be found catching up over coffee in one of the cafes on the High Street, or taking in the iconic views over London from the top of One Tree Hill. Residents with children are rarely short of anything to do, but a quiet afternoon could always be filled with a visit to the Grade II listed Horniman Museum.

Places to Eat & Drink

If you arrive before check-in, don’t worry - there’s lots to do! Practically speaking, why not visit the grocery store and do a small shop? That will give you more time to relax once you've checked in! There are also a few good restaurants for lunch, so you could relax and enjoy some of the local food! Here is a list of our favourite local pubs and restaurants:

The Sylvan Post  This is our 'local'. A lovely pub built into an old post office. The staff here are always lovely and they have a great selection of beers wines and food. On Mondays they offer 50% the entire food menu, and on Wednesdays they have a pub quiz. (The roast on Sunday is pretty good too). It is only a 3 minute walk from the property! You can access their website HERE

There are other fantastic restaurants in the neighbouring towns, of Crystal Palace, East Dulwich & Sydenham, here's just a few: Lorenzo (family run, no thrills but delicious Italian), Morgan & Watson (Vegan), A Torre (Portuguese), Four Hundred Rabbits (Pizza), Joanna's (French/British) The Real Greek, Kartuli (Georgian), Maria's Tortilla (Tapas), Franklins (British), Spinach and lots and lots of pubs with pub grub!

There are countless other restaurants, pubs and cafes in the local area. These are just some of our favourites. Sometimes the fun is in exploring!

Things to do

It is very easy to get into Central London from here, however if you want to do something more locally, here are some suggestions:

The Horniman Museum

A world recognised museum full of natural history and cultural history. The museum also has beautifully maintained gardens to walk through. Not only this, but at the top of the museum gardens, you can see a beautiful view of the whole of London. Perfect for picnics in summer. The museum also has a great cafe for some tea and cake! Website HERE

100 London Road SE23 3PQ

Forest Hill Pools

Located just a couple of minutes walk from the house, Forest Hill Pools consists of two pools and a health and fitness suite. Website HERE

Canvas & Cream Cafe & Gallery

A notable attraction near Forest Hill Station is Canvas & Cream. Canvas & Cream is a cafe with a secret garden, and many little nooks filled with cosy fireplaces and armchairs, so you can sip your latte and watch the world go by. It is perfect for rainy days or days where you need a little peace and quiet. They also have a gallery with 7 art studio spaces, a complementary therapy room and eco-friendly cafe/restaurant. Anise Gallery

Founded in 2012 by Jacquelyn Jubert and Joseph Robson, Anise Gallery is a contemporary art gallery with a strong focus towards the architectural aesthetic. Working with early to mid-career artists in a wide range of media, the gallery presents an exciting and diverse programme of exhibitions, events and talks that relate back to architecture, technology and the built environment.

Anise Gallery’s first summer graduate show was held in 2012 shortly after its opening to great success and reward. Supporting, promoting and connecting with recent graduates from London art schools and those further afield has become a core part of the gallery’s programming, and in a continual effort to expand the gallery experience, a programme of talks and events runs alongside the exhibition programming, including participation in London’s main architectural events such as the London Festival of Architecture and Open House London.

After a successful 10 years at Shad Thames, the gallery is currently undergoing a relocation to a converted 1870s Zion chapel in Forest Hill. The gallery’s move will allow for more diverse programming, wider collaboration, and engagement with the local community through artist residencies providing an exciting future for the gallery.

“Anise Gallery reaches the parts other galleries do not reach, architecture, the urban environment, engineering and much more. They will always present you with something very personal and thought provoking, artworks made with skill and a passion for the built world.” Ben Johnson. Website HERE

Appreciate Nature on Cox’s Walk

Cox’s Walk was an 18th-century public walk that has managed to survive and be brought into today’s society. It runs right next to the Dulwich Woods and Dulwich Golf Course and leads to Sydenham Hill.

Cox’s Walk is considered to be an important nature conservation site. It consists of almost 3 acres of gardens, parks, and urban spaces. This is a popular walk-in Forest Hill and features many scenic, beautiful views and an iconic footbridge.

Marvel at Greenery on Green Chain Walk

There is another excellent walk in Forest Hill. When you have completed (and loved) Cox’s Walk, you may want to set your sites on Green Chain Walk.

This walk is 50 miles long, starting from the Thames and finishing at Nunhead Cemetery. On the way, you will pass lots of parkland and greenery – which includes the Horniman Museum Gardens.

In Forest Hill, you can start the trail here, and choose between going south or north.

If you choose to go north, then you will be greeted with some of the most photogenic, iconic sights of Forest Hill, including the vintage car, the New York taxi, and the red phone box combination – perfect for those with a keen eye for photography.

Dacres Wood Nature Reserve

The Dacres Wood Nature Reserve sits between Forest Hill and Sydenham train station. It occupies 2.5 hectares of land and was once part of a huge garden in the Victorian period.

Visitors can visit on select days only throughout the year, so it is important to doublecheck the opening days and times before you plan your trip.

Once there, you will be greeted by vast green spaces, a variety of diverse fauna, and the remnants of the Croydon Canal, which was closed officially in 1841.

You can also hire out the field in Dacres Wood Nature Reserve for your own purposes. Dacres Wood Nature Reserve provides birthday parties, arts and crafts days, den building, woodland picnics, and more on their field.

Dartmouth Road

Dartmouth Road is home to an array of big names and independent shops –it’s the top spot for souvenir shopping in Forest Hill. Not only this, but there are plenty of charming gift shops with items from a whole host of small businesses – so you can shop ‘til you drop, guilt-free.

Other shopping streets in Forest Hill include Devonshire Road, London Road, and Perry Cale.

The Sunday Market

The Sunday Market takes place at the Horniman museum and makes Sundays one of the best days of the week at Forest Hill.

Here, you will find many stalls surrounding the local bandstand, which sells a wide variety of local produce. Think seasoned vegetables, seasoned fruits, chocolates, artisan bread, cakes, homemade jams, a plethora of drinks – the works.

The Sunday Market takes place between 10 AM – 3 PM.  Website HERE

Crystal Palace Dinosaurs

The Crystal Palace Dinosaurs are a series of sculptures of dinosaurs and other extinct animals, incorrect by modern standards, in the London borough of Bromley's Crystal Palace Park. They're hilariously inaccurate but the history is extremely interesting, check see more information on their website HERE

Heating & Cooling

The thermostat will be placed in the main living room on the mantle in the centre. During the winter we have set the heating to turn on in the morning and in the evening. However, you can set what temperature you would like. It is as simple as turning the dial on the front to your desired temperature and then clicking in the dial once. This will set your target temperature. You can also turn up/down individual radiators in each room for those who cant agree on the right temperature! If you have any questions, please call us.

Laundry Appliances

We have a washing machine situated in the kitchen. There are detergent tabs in a small grey box in the cupboard under the sink. If you wish to use, simply place one of the detergent tabs directly into the drum and select the program you wish. There is also conditioner in a grey bottle, 5 pumps into the largest section in the tray should be enough.

NOTE: The pink and white tabs are for the dishwasher, the blue/green ones are for the washing machine.
