69.70 Competition // Architecture
“THROUGH THE CONCEPT OF MUSIC, INCADENCE SERVES AS ANARCHITECTURAL COMPOSITION BLENDING PEOPLE, BUILDINGS, AND SPACES IN THE HEART OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.” A series of undulating paths provide simple needs such as seating, signage, direction, through a distinctive identity. Use of light is integrated into the “ribs” of the installations, adding a layer of dynamism. The lights are activated by people who “play” the static environment creating a safe and lively alleyway at night. The path is the harmony, the light if the melody, and the people are the musicians. Like a musical composition, each space in blocks 69 and 70 reacts to a greater harmonic order; crescendos where the path opens to a loud gathering space and diminuendos where the path winds through a narrow quiet space. inCADENCE addresses the alleyways and space between the city’s cultural and performing arts centers through a rhythm that unifies sound, light, and the surrounding context . In its essence, the path provides a myriad of new spaces offering all age groups and people a unique experience. Music connects us all. Group Members: Liz Yonashiro & Katie David
