Library & community centre
jpe design studio
This design seeks to create a more welcoming and integrated journey, connecting to the street scape, the neighbouring RSL building and the broader public realm.
Celebrating a layered history of the site, Ngutungka Henley incorporates the renewal of the much loved State Heritage listed Henley Town Hall and Soldiers Memorial into an integrated component of this public precinct. Bringing together community and library programs on this established civic site, the revitalisation of this precinct seeks to create a place for gathering, reflection and shared connections, taking inspiration from the terrain of the coastline and the sand dunes as a places of shelter.

03 transfiguration
final year/2020
DEsign STUDIO 10
Transfiguration is an emotional yet practical experience for grieving relatives and friends to say farewell to their loved ones in a dignified space.
To remember, and be remembered are natural human needs, so the crematorium responds to both personal and public requirements for mourning and remembrance in a building that ritualises one’s life, regardless of faith or culture.
It holds two separate functions: one spiritual, regarding the ceremonial aspect of death, and the other practical, regarding how death is dealt with after the final farewell.
Transitional spaces, geometric forms, materiality, and natural light form the symbolic representations of ideas of remembrance and journey, which are evoked in the design of the crematorium. My project provides those experiencing the space with a dignified and respectful acknowledgement of one’s passing.

BVA glass workshop
persepctive section 1:200
The nature of my reading room is a small selfcontained glass workshop, which handcrafts meaningful glass pebbles. Embedded inside the glass is the cremated remains of your loved one. With the pebble thoughtfully placed in the reflective pool of the adajacent crematorium.

04 SUB URBAN PALIMPSEST
third year/2018
DESIGN STUDIO 6 GROUPWORK
My studio group for this semester was comprised of students who were selected to embark on a study tour to Osaka, Japan, to coloborate with students at Osaka University on a project focussing on housing density and renovations of traditional Japanese Nagaya houses. The studios aim was to analyse and communicate the socio-spatial characteristics of a suburban place.
This initial required a ‘macro’ approach to the site, which was located inn the Sumioshi Ward in the Osaka Prefecture. As a Group, we generated a hand made model of the site and its surrounding buildings using the workshop to create foam and balsa models at a 1:200 scale. The Ply base was fashioned in the shape of the Sumiyoshi Ward, and the timber and paper underlay represented the traditional Jpanaese ‘shoji’ We further researched other traditional Japanese housing in the area, and hand drew them on to some of the Shoji sqaures.

DESIGN STUDIO 6
GROUPWORK
This collaborative and cross cultural design studio project was to be undertaken at Osaka City Univeristy in Groups comprising of three UniSA students, and two OCA students. It showed us how to map and analyse contrasting social and urban conditions between Australia and Japanese examples of urban street edges and traditional housing typologiesin Yamanouchi Nagaya(Traditional Osaka Row House)

MATERIALS STRUCTURE
The pharma cy uses many different types of materials
The exterior of the building is covered in a light concrete render The structure of the Nagoya is made from tim ber post with clay or wattle and daub walls also featuring an terrazzo genkan floor
Over the years many of the original fea tures of the building have been replaced with steel com

This experience equipped us with new skills in the design approach towards population increase and the need for socially sustainable housing through a ‘micro’ approach. The need for housing to adapt with increasing density is paramount in todays social climate. The project helped us gain excellent experience in working with students from another country, and greatly improved our communication and teamwork skills with people who had limited English. This Nagaya renovation focused on Student accomodation which was flexible for both living and studying.
