This collection features a number of incredible garments, and focuses on an inspiring utilization of sustainability while emphasizing the beauty and confidence of the models through their clothing. The looks feature patchwork as well as beautiful sheer and lace fabrics. Alena Maestas is the stylist, photographer, makeup artist, and even the designer and creator of some of the looks. Fun fact, the models featured in this lookbook also happen to be the models for the University of Arizona Fashion Show. We are incredibly grateful for all the hard work, effort, and endless good looks that each individual who cooperated in this lookbook provided for us. Thank you.

This collection of clothing is entirely created by Alena using recycled fabrics. Within her collection, you can see the upcycled pillow case, blanket, and even a curtain that she turned into incredible garments. The show will behold her and many other amazing designers’ collections on April 20th, 2024.

When choosing the mural as inspiration for this lookbook, I was immediately drawn to everything ocean-related, as I’ve always been in awe of the beauty the ocean contains. There were many murals that I went to look at that befitted this theme, and it was interesting to see that each of them were created by the same artist: Joe Pagac. This mural specifically contained a multitude of gorgeous colors, and many things that I find beautiful, from the clouds, the sky, the whales, the mountains. Everything about this mural is truly incredible, and I’m grateful to have chosen it.

Looking at the recent runways, we can see a large number of beautiful looks, whether they’re new, or the specific trends have been around for centuries, we can gather inspiration from each look. When searching for ideas for this lookbook, while also gathering inspiration from my own designs and creations that I wanted to feature, I knew I ultimately wanted to do patchwork, especially as it has plenty of relevance in sustainability. Now Grandma’s patches are on the high-fashion runway, and the creativity one can create using these recycled fabrics is truly incredible. In many recent runways, I saw a lot of lace and sheer fabrics. One of my favorite runways that featured plenty of this was Mugler S/S 24, which featured gorgeous looks that look as if they’re underwater. The way that sheer and lace fabrics can be gorgeously manipulated, embroidered and even accessorized is beautiful, and I love the way that it can enhance one’s features and truly allow their figures to shine.
