The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is an independent organization that is unrelated to any sporting institution. Its job is to provide unbiased, fair assessments of sports-related disputes. They do this through arbitration or mediation and in accordance with procedural rules adapted to the speci c needs of the sport involved. It is the Supreme Court of the sporting world, the highest tribunal for all resolutions of sports-related disputes. During the Olympics, the CAS has a very important role to play. The agency is split into two main divisions, with one concentrating solely on anti-doping (CAS ADD), and the other on Ad Hoc sporting disputes. Throughout the 17 days of the XXIII Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the CAS was called in to keep things in order. In total, 3,149 anti-doping tests were conducted during the Pyeongchang games, making it the most robust anti-doping program ever in the history of the Olympic Winter Games.
