SUNDAY, MAY 4, 1—4 P.M.

Public Opening:

Focus on Youth

Join us in celebrating the opening of Focus on Youth, an annual juried exhibition of photographs and films created by high school students from the Albuquerque Public Schools. The exhibition includes nearly 100 photographs and short films, reflecting mastery across a range of techniques including silver print, digital and special techniques in photography, art books and digital film. An awards ceremony will take place in Ventana Salon at 2 p.m.

In honor of the Good Dogs exhibition, join the Animal Welfare Department for the first ever dog adoption event to be held in the Albuquerque Museum Sculpture Garden. Enjoy the galleries, music, art activities, and food as you learn about how you can help get good dogs good homes.

Opening Conversation: Open to All: Reflections on a Century of Service

Join us for a special conversation with current and former library staff as we reflect on the rich history of service at the Special Collections Library in Albuquerque. In conjunction with the exhibition Open to All: A Century of Access at the Special Collections Library, this event will explore the library’s legacy of providing access to a world of learning for generations of Albuquerque residents. Whether you are a longtime library patron or new to the Special Collections Library, this conversation promises to offer a deeper understanding of the institution’s impact and the people who have helped shape its history.

Join us for an evening of food, music, and celebration, featuring special performances and the goods and services of the Ujima Collective, ending with a walk through the sculpture garden in honor of Dr. Opal Lee.

Opening Conversation: Abstracting Nature

Free event

Join us for a conversation with artists Judy Tuwaletstiwa, Joanna Keane Lopez, and Joan Weissman, whose work reflects a deep personal connection to glass, adobe, or textile. Held in celebration of Abstracting Nature, this event highlights how these artists blend natural elements with innovative takes on traditional mediums to express history, place, and belonging. This exhibition is supported in part by the Chicago Woodman Foundation.

Free event at Casa San Ysidro

Each May, Casa San Ysidro and the Corrales Historical Society celebrate local heritage with a free event featuring New Mexico’s living traditions. Enjoy hands-on activities that bring the historical heart of Corrales to life, presented by Casa and the Albuquerque Museum.

SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 1:30—3 P.M. Workshop: Heritage Spinning & Weaving Dyeing Purposes and Uses

Free event at Casa San Ysidro

This class with Myra Chang Thompson and Carla Wackenheim teaches traditional wool dyeing using local plants. Participants will learn historic color practices and see demonstrations of mordanting techniques.

Focus on Youth is a juried student photography and film exhibition showcasing the creativity and perspectives of Albuquerque’s next generation. A long-standing partnership between Albuquerque Public Schools Fine Arts department and Albuquerque Museum, the exhibition highlights student work in a professional museum setting, emphasizing self-expression, skill-building, and creative problem-solving.

Light, Space, and the Shape of Time

Light, Space, and the Shape of Time explores the evolution of the Light and Space movement from its 1960s Southern California origins to its contemporary expressions, highlighting how a wide diversity of artists continue to expand its themes using breakthroughs in optical and material sciences, with New Mexico’s unique landscape and spirit of experimentation playing a vital role.

Abstracting Nature

Abstracting Nature highlights ten New Mexico-based artists—past and present—whose work reflects deep, personal connections to the local landscape through abstraction. Using materials like glass, adobe, silk, and pastels, artists such as Agnes Martin, Emmi Whitehorse, and Joanna Keane Lopez explore themes of memory, time, and the human relationship to nature. Spanning more than seventy years, the exhibition invites viewers to reconnect with the land that sustains us.

Open to all: A Century of Access at the Special Collections Library

Open to All: A Century of Access at the Special Collections Library celebrates the centennial of Albuquerque’s former Main Library, which opened in 1925 and became the Special Collections Library in 1978. Featuring over 100,000 archival materials, the exhibition explores the library’s history, its role in the community, and the ongoing importance of open access to knowledge. Organized by Albuquerque Museum in partnership with the Public Library of Albuquerque-Bernalillo County.
