This school was the center of his life. NOW IT’S THE CENTER OF A COMMUNITY.

Wilbert Dean, Board Member, Ellis Acres Memorial Park Buckingham Training School was created in 1923 by the Reverend Stephen Ellis to provide education to African American students in a segregated America. A generation later, Wilbert Dean, a former student, and other community leaders came forward to ensure that the school would not be lost to neglect and disrepair after its closing in 1965. Today, Ellis Acres Memorial Park provides community buildings and grounds for a new generation to meet, celebrate and learn.
