Officials with LB Chapman could not be reached for comment over the weekend. It's not known whether the two men were employees of the company.

Chris Krepski, a spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board, said initial information indicates the plane crashed on takeoff. Krepski said investigators need to find out why the plane was taking off, the nature of the its flight, what type of maintenance had been done on the aircraft, and any communication with aircraft services nearby. RCMP Cpl. Wahnese Antonioni said family members have been notified.

Fortin is concerned the dam would be used to power B.C.’s liquefied natural gas industry, something she feels is unnecessary. “(With the) Site C dam, they’re taking everything away from us,” she said. “We’re not getting the oil, we’re not getting the power, all we’re getting is the mess and the ruin.”

She expressed her support for Biggar. “She’s a strong girl and she fights for what’s right,” said Fortin. “You can knock her down and she gets back up. That’s what we need (in the Green Party).”

Protesters say they're gearing up for future rallies aimed at stopping the dam.

Does our electoral system need a makeover?

The B.C. government and LNG Canada announced two complementary funding programs on Oct. 15 that will help employees in the construction sector upgrade their skills.

The LNG Canada Trades Training Fund was created as a resource for employers, who are now able to apply for funding for their current and future employees.

The new fund will provide $1 million to employers in B.C. in support of industry and apprenticeship training in the construction sector.

“The (fund) will enable British Columbians to benefit from careers in all industries, and particularly the emerging LNG industry,” said Andy Calitz, LNG Canada CEO, in a written statement.

“By collaborating with government and the B.C. Construction Association, we can support construction employers and their apprentices with access to funding for training and skills development to fully realize job opportunities.”

The construction association will administer the funds.

Additionally, companies in the construction sector can apply for the Canada-B.C. Job Grant (CJG), which will provide $500,000 for employee training that occurs before April 1, 2016.

This grant is a three-way partnership between employers, and the federal and provincial governments.

“The LNG industry represents tremendous opportunities for British Columbians, with the potential to generate billions of dollars in investment and create thousands of jobs in B.C. This is an exciting, transformative time and we want to prepare all British Columbians — and B.C. businesses — to seize the LNG opportunities coming our way,” said Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training Shirley Bond, in a press release.

Under this grant, government pays for twothirds of training costs for an employee up to $10,000, while the employer is responsible for the remaining one-third of training costs.

These funding models are complementary in that eligible employers will be able to receive funding from the LNG Canada – Trades Training Fund to offset their share of the CJG training cost.

The FSJ Petroleum Association Midget Flyers had a successful weekend with 3 home games, hosting Peace River 'B' on Friday night, Hythe on Saturday afternoon, and Peace River 'A' Sunday afternoon.

Friday night had a victory of 5-1, with team captain Tim Rice starting the scoring off 25 seconds into the game. Tim Rice (2), Lance Aylward, and Travis Domeij (2) with assists to Jason Andrews (2), Aiden Craig-Steele (3), Jason Lee, and Daniel Forrest.

Saturday victory was 11-2, and Sunday was a close exciting game with a 4-2 win. Sunday goals went to Aiden Craig-Steele (2), Lance Aylward and Jesse McArthur.

Both goalies Austin Craig and Reilley Elder-Cherry pulled off assists over the weekend to top off the excitement for the team.

Next weekend the team will be on the road to Grande Prairie and Spirt River.

After the 66 players were decided upon to represent Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge last Friday, Hockey Canada officials spent the weekend mulling over potential roster combinations for the event that gets underway Nov. 1 in both Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.

On Monday, the Canada Black, Red and White rosters were announced.

The 66 players were selected by Ryan Jankowski, Hockey Canada's director of player personnel, together with Joël Bouchard, a member of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence management group, and regional scouts Carl Bouchard (Quebec), Barclay Branch (Ontario), Wade Klippenstein (West), Kevin Mitchell (Atlantic) and Darrell Woodley (Ontario).

On Canada Black, Stelio Mattheos, a 6’0” 190-pound center from Winnipeg, Man. is one of the top five rated prospects for the 2017 NHL draft. In seven games with the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings this year, Mattheos has five points in seven games.

For Canada Red, Maxime Comtois will be a flashy forward to keep an eye on. He is currently projected as top 10 pick in the 2017 NHL draft and was a first overall choice in the Quebec Major Junior League Draft last year. Comtois is on fire in the QMJHL so far this season, with

17 points in 14 games as a rookie.

Celiac Disease Description Celiac disease is a chronic disorder that has a genetic component. When an individual with celiac disease ingests gluten, it triggers an immune response that damages the lining of the small intestine. The result is that certain nutrients cannot be absorbed properly.

What is gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in many grains including wheat, barley and rye. Since wheat flour is the most commonly used flour, foods such as bread, pasta and pastries are likely to contain gluten.

Gluten is not only found in food products.

Certain medications and beauty care products also contain gluten.

Risk factors Anyone can develop celiac disease. In fact, the prevalence of celiac disease in North America is close to 1%. In some individuals, it can develop in childhood, while in others, it can be triggered by stressful events (surgery, pregnancy, infection or intense emotional stress). Some are at greater risk for developing the disorder.

• Women are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop celiac disease than men. Men however, tend to be more severely affected.

• It is more common in Caucasians.

• People with a relative who suffers from the disease is also more likely to develop celiac disease. About 10% of those with celiac disease have a close relative who also has the disease.

• Individuals with type 1 diabetes, thyroid disorders or trisomy are also at greater risk.

Symptoms Symptoms vary greatly. Some symptoms are typical gastrointestinal problems, while others are the result of nutritional malabsorption. It is good to know that the severity of symptoms is not related to the severity of the disease.

Common intestinal symptoms • Diarrhea • Abdominal distension Symptoms related to poor absorption • Anemia miscarriages • Fatty stools • Growth delay, short • Repeated height spontaneous • Tingling and

numbness • Joint pain • Headache • Fatigue • Mouth ulcers • Muscle spasms Complications If left untreated, celiac disease can lead to numerous, more serious complications including: • The development • Cancer of autoimmune • Infertility disorders • Osteoporosis • Thyroid disorders Diagnosis A diagnosis of celiac diseases requires several steps. The disease is first suspected based on the patient’s symptoms. Then, blood tests are used to measure the levels of certain antibodies. The key to confirming the diagnosis however, lies in an intestinal biopsy.

Treatment Once celiac disease is confirmed with a biopsy, the patient must go on a strict glutenfree diet since it is the only way to avoid long-term complications associated with celiac disease. Individuals with the disorder must not only avoid foods that contain large amounts of grains, but must also avoid products that contain trace amounts since ingesting even a very small quantity of gluten is enough to cause damage. It is imperative that anyone diagnosed with celiac disease consult a dietician.

Improvement of symptoms is noticeable in the days and weeks after gluten is eliminated from the diet. Approximately 90% of those with celiac disease respond well to a gluten-free diet.

Since celiac disease is responsible for the malabsorption of several nutrients, blood tests and examinations must be performed to determine whether nutritional deficiencies are present. The nutrients most often affected are folic acid, vitamins A, B12, D, E and K, iron and calcium. Depending on the results, supplementation may be required to make up for the deficiencies. r0011010802

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is played in Las Vegas at the TPC at Summerlin.

The tournament was founded in 1983 and has been known by Defending: Ben Martin Winning Score: 20-under par other titles. It was played over Winning Share: $1,116,000 five rounds instead of the normal four until 2003. Rory McIlroy had a narrow escape on Saturday when a drive from big-hitting and eventual tournament winner Argentine Emiliano Grillo missed him by inches during the third round of the Frys.com Open in California. The world number three had just played a chip shot from next to the green at the driveable par-four 17th when Grillo’s drive landed “inches” from a surprised McIlroy, who clearly received no warning that he was in danger of being hit by the ball.

“Missed me by a couple inches. Would’ve put me out of my misery, to be honest with you,” McIlroy told reporters after another frustrating day on the greens.

Lessons from the Golf Pro The chip-and-run shot is one of the most difficult parts of the game to master, yet it is the part of our game that we spend the least amount of time working on. This nonchalant approach to the chip shot is what separates the cream of the crop from the remainder of the field. Here are a few easy steps to practice whenever you have that difficult chip-and-run shot in front of you. Narrowing your stance is the first bit of advice. If you are a right-handed player, put more weight on your left foot to keep the loft out of your shot. When you are ready to take the shot, play the ball inside your right foot with your hands positioned ahead of the ball. Finally, make a putt-like motion, keeping your wrists firm and strike the ball with a clean, crisp stroke.
