Arrrrr… I be needing a ne parrot pal to be a TRUE pirate ship captain! What can I do?
Here’s how I got me parrot
Long ago, pirate treasure included gold doubloons. Doubloons were a type of coin that was used a long time ago, especially in places like Spain and its colonies. It was a valuable coin, like a twenty dollar bill today!
I know how you can get one, Captain!
Ahoy! I’m going to name ye POSEIDON! ONE MONTH LATER...
Angelina’s Reading Goal
That seemed like an enormous amount of treasure! But Oliver Octopus suggested I think of the 48 doubloons goal as a series of smaller goals.
Captain Crabcakes worked hard for his 10 doubloons. Put a check mark next to each job he did. If you checked the right boxes, they will add up to exactly 10 doubloons. 3 doubloons
Swab the ship’s deck
Angelina made her goal by making the smaller goal of reading 4 hours a week. If she did the same amount of reading time every day, that came to about 35 minutes a day.
How many di erences can you nd between these two pictures of Angelina?
Roll up the mooring lines ... Wash porthole windows ..... Cook the crew’s dinner ...... Scrub the apple barrels ...... Sweep the crow’s nest ........
have
So I made a goal of saving 10 doubloons. After I did that, I made the goal to save 10 doubloons again!
How many times did I have to save 10 doubloons to get the 48 I needed to buy Poseidon?
Treasure or Trash?
There’s an old saying: One person’s trash could be another person’s treasure. Look through the newspaper for ads where people are selling things they don’t want anymore. Can you think of how those unwanted items might be a treasure for someone else? Write a story about a person finding something special that was no longer wanted by another person.
Race a friend or family member to see who reaches the treasure rst! Ready? Set. GO!
