But don’t worry – a Venus ytrap won’t eat you. Mostly they eat bugs. They especially love mosquitoes and ies.

Snapping Up a Meal
Digestion of real food takes five to 12 days, after which the trap reopens. The insect's exoskeleton blows away in the wind or is washed away by rain.
If something not edible falls into a Venus flytrap, it will close up and try to digest it. But after about 12 hours, it will open its leaves and let the fake food fall out.
Dangers?
Venus ytraps aren’t dangerous to people, but people are endangering them. Venus ytraps are only found growing wild in one small area of the planet – in the grassy wetlands, or bogs, around Cape Fear, North Carolina. This area has just the right climate, amount of water and soil conditions.
Today the plant is threatened in the wild. The draining of bogs for farming and the building of shopping centers and houses has reduced the plant’s habitat and numbers. Less than 5% of the plants are left.

Sweet nectar around the edges of the Venus ytrap’s open leaves attract insects. As a bug moves across the surface drinking up this treat, it touches small, sensitive bristles on the Venus ytrap. These trigger hairs tell the plant when a possible meal has arrived. Then the plant’s “jaws” close very quickly, trapping the insect inside. The long cilia, hairs along the leaf edges, act like prison bars, preventing the insect from escaping. Several days later, after the insect has been digested, the leaves open and what’s left of the insect body blows away.

Location: Colorado Parks and Wildlife Gunnison Service Center Job Description: Position will assist with customer services at the Gunnison Area office including license sales, information distribution, cash register operation, radio dispatch, answering telephones, and other office duties and management. Provides responses to inquiries on hunting and fishing regulations, hunting/fishing conditions, directions, wildlife conflict resolution methods, and other requests. Position will be
responsible for mandatory animal check-ins, sample collections, and other wildlife related tasks. Position will be trained to take tissue samples, and will be required to take Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) samples. Position may assist with various wildlife management work and other duties as assigned, including potentially transporting injured wildlife to regional rehab facilities.
Position Requirements: Ability to interact with and assist hunters, anglers and the general public, helping with various information requests in person; on the phone; and by email. Knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Google Suite are highly desired. Knowledge of hunting and fishing is highly desired. Having the ability to read maps, accurately collect and record data from hunters, and the ability to enter data into computer databases is required. Must be willing and able to lift and handle elk and deer heads, carcasses of mountain lions, bears and bobcats on a regular basis. Assist with other wildlife related calls and management. The ability to drive a pickup truck in varying weather conditions is desirable. Valid Colorado driver’s license required for all positions. Families, friends and neighbors are invited to a community celebration of the return of the water to the town ditches at Meadows Park on May 17 from 10-1:30 p.m. Free picnic, civic leader speeches, ditch stories, GHS poetry, education stations, GV Producers Guild plant sale, information on how to garden off the ditch, arts and crafts and a boat race for children. An interfaith ditch blessing will be held by Catholic, Jewish, Episcopal, Pentecostal, Spiritual, Indigenous, Congregational and other faith leaders. Bring your picnic blanket and a side or dessert to share (optional). Let’s celebrate all that the town ditches have given to us and our summer visitors for 145 years.
