Mission Statement, Purpose & Meetings
To serve as a Membership Council and the sponsoring agent of a non-profit organization bearing the name Alamo Area Home Care Council in San Antonio, Bexar County, TX and to assist the organization in carrying out the following purposes:
• To provide activity on behalf of legislation favorable to home care; and

• To make home care an effective, significant part of the health care system in the Alamo Area community.
The Alamo Area Home Care Council is an organization composed of the various disciplines in home care which include the following: home health agencies, hospice organizations, home medical equipment companies, home infusion pharmacies, assisted living, residential facilities, long term care facilities, and other related services. In today’s environment, all must work together to provide a continuum of care for the patient. It is the desire of the Council and it’s members to stay abreast of the ever-changing status of home care rules and regulations. In addition, the goal of the Council is to serve as a resource to the other organizations that work closely with the home care community.
Meetings
The Alamo Area Home Care Council meets on a monthly basis, generally on the second Wednesday of each month, currently at Anne Marie’s at 12475 Starcrest. Our meetings focus on a variety of topics that affect home care and services rendered to patients in San Antonio, Bexar County, and surrounding counties of South Central Texas. Personal Assistance Service (PAS) Members Red Tab PAS is non-medical help with activities of daily living such as bathing, meal prep, medication reminders, transportation and light housekeeping. PAS services are usually private pay though some Medicaid recipients may be eligible for PAS.
Hospice is a service to support people by providing end-of-life care when the patient's condition is considered terminal and is no longer receiving curative treatment. Hospice is a covered benefit with most insurances and Medicare.

The Alamo Area Home Care Council’s Amigo Program provides financial & volunteer support. Potential Amigo’s must be a 501c(3) organization servicing the Bexar County TX Area. The Amigo is a non-profit agency that is chosen each year to receive financial and volunteer support. Applications are submitted to the “Building Bridges Committee.” The top finalists are submitted to the board. for final approval. Members of AAHCC participate in fundraisers and volunteer opportunities to further the mission of the “Amigos”.

Can you imagine doing what you love at the age of 80? Nancy Ortiz, RN does. As an Aging Life Care Manager and employee of Sage Care Management, Nancy gets to do what she enjoys every day. Helping people. Nancy has been a great influence in the home care industry. Nancy acts as the mediator between clients and their families plus the companies that work in the home. Many times, Nancy will either compliment the work we do for her client or make suggestions to improve. Advocacy, nursing, and care is her specialty.
When a client cannot afford certain basic care items - Nancy is the first to open up her pocket book. When there is a senior that needs a guardian, Nancy steps up to fulfill this role, many times without financial reimbursement. Bank trust departments all know Nancy and her reputation of being fair, confident, and dedicated. Even when there is dissention in families for what is best for the loved one, Nancy sets the comments straight. Client needs are her top focus. As previously commented, when a home care agency has made a mistake, Nancy will talk through, offer potential options, and then report back to the family that a correction is being made. She is our advocate; as well. Nancy has judged many Christmas office decoration competitions, attended AAHCC CEU programs, loves jewelry, stays connected with the Native American culture and during the 2020 Covid pandemic- she reached out to her contacts in Oklahoma to have them make homemade facial cloth masks for homecare company employees. We all remember how tough it was to get these much needed care items to our employees. This is why Nancy Ortiz, RN, Aging Life Care Manager is the Alamo Area Homecare Council HOMECARE HERO for 2021.
