Time In Architecture This dissertation is to understand how Architecture Design can evolve by using Time as an element / concept .

Time is an intangible thing perceived with intangible elements .

Aim • To prove how Time can be used in Architecture as a Design element .

Objective • To understand Time on different scales (Days,Months,Years) • To identify elements of time .

• To understand how time is used in design .

Scope • Time can u be used in architecture on a qualitative level , to mark Important events through design .

Conclusions Uses Of Designing with Time

Time can be use to mark an important event through architecture , this is the use of time in a qulitastive level in architecture . Best Examples of time uses to mark events are –

Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam , Kanyakumari Only on the Day of Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday (2nd October) will the sun light strike the urn where his ashes were kept .

Padmanabhaswamy Temple – On the days of the Equinox the sunpath passes exactly through the door openings in the gopurams .

Modern Tools For Designing with Time

The older designs that used time as a concept had in depth detailing to identify the exact position of the astronomical events .

At the present day of age we have so many different tools to make design more easy .

Software – So many softwares now help in designing with site context and exact sunpaths .

Data – Exact sun path diagrams of any site can be calculate through this website WWW.Suncalc.Net . Also climatic data of any region is available online and it can be found upto 10 years .

Finial Conclusion

People have designed with time from prehistoric era it self , the works done using this concept is always had a architectural significance to it .

At the present age , due to the technological advancement , it is easy to get the required datas to work with time .

This leads to the conclusion that , designing with Time can create some significant designs that will be remembered throughout its time . This Dissertation was to try indenting elements of time and how different master architects have utilize it and how we can use these element s to create Master Projects .
