This is it. It’s great to have a stadium gourmet like this. “Let’s eat an opponent!”, a flaming curry bread. The whole fighting spirit of Montedio Yamagata was made into a curry bread. There is nothing pretentious about it, like the bread sold at bakery shops around town. The bread is one of those “food that ridiculed you” that Roppa Furukawa said - leavened with yeast, the bread is made super fluffy, but I recommend you to take a bite. There is a momiji-manju in the first curry bread, and ramen in the second curry bread. This is the heart of the flaming curry bread. Put the local dish of the opponent inside the curry bread, and eat it – this is an horrifying bread that carries a sense of cannibalism. This is an agitation food that removed an idea of combination in gourmet. The package says “Hurray Hurray Hip Hop Hurray”, which seems to be the lyrics of Motedio Yamagata. This is absolutely the best stadium gourmet in Japan, and I would also like to see Montedio Yamagata winning the championship. Moreover, despite being called a flaming curry bread, it’s not hot at all. Then, where is the flame? It is inside the supporters’ hearts.

「有機玄米のアボカドタコラむス」 東京ノェルディ

A beef bowl with three kinds of cheese, kimchi, and seasoned cod roe mayonnaise. In the first place, toppings like mayonnaise and cheese are marginal items, a way below the main role. Yet, their presences are so strong that they could destroy everything (I think that’s wrong.) The world dominated by condiments. This destructive invasion, such as red pickled ginger in Yakisoba, source for croquette, and mustard for oden, walks the royal road of B-rated gourmet. But this one didn’t seem to be popular. The person in a short-sleeved shirt was luring customers like crazy. He sucked my adrenaline.

「倩然糀ずベリヌのホットスムヌゞヌ」 カタヌレ富山

“Avocado taco rice with organic brown rice” Tokyo Verdy / A track was shivering quietly in a corner of the stadium. I went to see football in Japan, and it was amazing. You can have a full meal like hand-kneaded udon, hot smoothie and tandoori chicken rice bowl”, he would sniff saying “oh... J-league is so crazy...” and fallen silent. Unlike Europe where matters most is football (and beer to stir it up), it’s so J-league that it can’t satisfy people without extra stuff. It’s nonsense. It’s not beautiful. People who get too excited about the game and roar forgetting how thirsty they were. Were they not real? There are no hooligans in this country. Load up on a bunch of food and settle into a chair. By the time you start eating noodle-with-beef-dipping-source, your mind is already somewhere else. Even if a football player hits a ball or runs hard, everything is just a part of the scenery. It’s worse than a lunch box sold at train station. By the time you are full, you have grown tired of the game. I even went home after the first half (sorry about that, editor). National Stadium, by the way, isn’t that fieLd too far? When I worked as a seller at Jingu Stadium in my high school time, fishers at Tsukiji Market came in a group, sneaking in fresh sashimi of tuna and octopus and beer, and started a banquet. When I remember their smiles, I feel like that they will not come to the stadium, if we take the food away from their world. When I think about the sumo wrestling I watched at a box seat, all I remember is a crammed yakitori bento and a souvenir bag as heavy as it pressed my skin to become red. Half the memory is always made of food. I’m not sure what an attitude of true sports spectator may be, but the world doesn’t go on wheels like that. Movie theaters are supported by the sales of popcorns. Bread and circus. Anyone loves eating.

World Cup. Valderrama from Columbia was making his marks, getting all the attentions with his fantastic performance and his puffy Afro, obviously unfit for playing sports, which also looked five times bigger than his head. During the same time, there was Ruud Gullit in the golden age of AC Milan. He had dreadlocks that were quite unusual back then. I was fascinated by him. To the untrained eyes, a player with an unique hair is relatively easier to find even in a wider view, also to pay more attentions. Thus, those players with unusual hair tend to be popular. From then onward, players with unique hairstyles appeared one after another. Yet, one thing to be careful; uniqueness of the hairstyle needs to match brilliance of the performance. Otherwise, one will look quite uncool. I wouldn’t say which player in which national team, but when I find a player who is not great but has his hair dyed blonde, I cannot help feeling a poor balance between his hairstyle and performance. The best example of the balanced hairstyle and performance would be an ex-England player David Beckham. His hair became so famous that it was named “Beckham Hair” in Japan, but the performances in his prime (free kick, accurate

Gerrard, an England national team member and the captain of FC Liverpool. Frankly speaking, he doesn't have "hairstyle". I mean his hairs don't have a style. Of course, he has hairs. He is not bald like Zidane. Since I have had my eyes on him since he was a freshman, I dare say that he has not yet found his own style of the hair. In his 15 years of career, his hair has not changed largely. Like the hair that’s about 3-4cm length from a shaven head, it’s a little too round to call it crew cut. Based on this hair that is quite difficult to put into words, there is a trace of trial and error such as shaving the whole or the sides. As his fan; however, I haven’t felt quite right about any of them yet. Especially at important games, he appeared with a tightly trimmed hair, just like Yasushi Yokoyama, so he definitely cares about his hair. The reason why his hair does not fit well may be, the quality problem (hairy, small forehead, etc), that his barber doesn’t have a sense of taste, or that he has not encountered an ideal barber although he tries various barber shops, or that he is nervous of telling what he wants at a barber, and so on. I think about various reasons like these. But, by playing with an hair that doesn’t sit right, Gerrard may be telling us, “you don’t need a hairstyle to play football”, an anti-hairstyle football.

Lately I hear a lot about how football and shogi have in common partially because of the manga “Narikin”. To decide the formation and place the players within the limited numbers of the players. The strength will depend on how a manager can pass on the tactics to players and how flexible the players can be. These aspects make football similar to what shogi is. In football compared to other sports, the way a manager deals the cards strongly affects the result. As for baseball, it is quite common that an ex-star player, a player who is charismatic, entertaining or has a strong mentality and such becomes a manager of the first league. On the other hand, it isn't a surprise when a person who is barely experienced in coaching, playing or only been a player for a short term becomes a manager like Mourinho. The knowledge of the other team and how quickly they can respond to the approach of the other team are rather important than just going with the feeling. I believe these aspects are the reason why football and shogi are said to be similar. I often look up changes of the old formations on Wikipedia. A formation of the Brazil team when they were strong is very interesting. It makes me want to ask what was happening (laugh), like they were placing 5 players on the top and barley no one in the bottom. Maybe a new formation won’t come out anymore for football. But as I look back, there were many changes in past 20 years. Before, man-to-man defense predominated. There were also two attackers and three attackers but there was no such thing as one attacker like we do now. No players were able to run for 90 minutes. In the past 20 years, players’ physical strength increased and people started to expect more of both offence and defense to the players. When I look at the current formation, I feel the FC Barcelona is similar to shogi. Create a non-marked player while juggling the open space
When more managers are playing on counter attacks, dynamic changes of formation during the match will be tough for the other team. How flexible you can change the formation multiple times during one match is also important in shogi. Some shogi players stick to a single formation. However, it goes the same with both football and shogi that its better to have the ability to play in different ways. Actually, there are many football fans among shogi players, and I’m also one of them. I often play football games, too. I especially like touching the formation in “Wi-Ele” (abr. Winning Eleven) before a match starts. I buy players from various teams in the master’s league, and spend lots of time placing them. Make one player do both offence and defense and then if we succeeded in passing up, Rooney will be there to score
That’s how I play the game, placing good a player who plays well at a side-back and can run. But since a player who runs back and forth will run out of energy quickly and need a switch in the second-half, I usually place at least two players who are good at playing on a side back. I’ve been talking about the similarity of football and shogi so far. But this may be the difference between them. Shogi pieces don’t need stamina. If they did, I wonder if a silver general would move too much and turn into a pawn, then no longer moves forward
