Lately I hear a lot about how football and shogi have in common partially because of the manga âNarikinâ. To decide the formation and place the players within the limited numbers of the players. But as I look back, there were many changes in past 20 years. Before, man-to-man defense predominated. There were also two attackers and three attackers but there was no such thing as one attacker like we do now. No players were able to run for 90 minutes. In the past 20 years, playersâ physical strength increased and people started to expect more of both offence and defense to the players. When I look at the current formation, I feel the FC Barcelona is similar to shogi.
