CHAPTER SCRAPBOOK APPLICATION

There will be two scrapbook awards, a digital and physical scrapbook award Digital scrapbooks will be uploaded and judged ahead of the conference Physical scrapbooks must be brought to the conference and will be judged on site. All chapters should adhere to the established guidelines. The following information should be in the front section of the scrapbook:

Digital scrapbook entries should be uploaded no later than February 5, 2023. Physical scrapbooks must be set up the Thursday of the Regional Conference no later than 5:00 pm. This form should be the first page of the Graduate or Undergraduate Scrapbook submission

The digital scrapbook submission should be a link to a viewable PDF file. You will not be able to upload your scrapbook file to the Submission page. A suggested website to create your viewable pdf is issuu.com. New accounts on this site allows two publications. Chapter scrapbook submissions may contain activities between January 1 - December 31, 2022.

2022 REFLECTIONS

The ladies of Iota Mu put on a multitude of educationally stimulating and socially engaging events that emulated Alpha Kappa Alpha's national frameworks, Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service and Soaring to Greater heights of Service and Sisterhood.

Continue reading to learn a bit more about some of Iota Mu's programs during 2022 We were able to ease back into in person initiatives in Fall 2022 while aligning with the proper COVID-19 protocols

Brought to you by the Iota Mu Chapter was a week long series of IMsecure for their Spring Skee Week themed after the TV show, Insecure, this segment put a fun spin on our programs as we ushered out the 2018 -

2022 national targets

Our events included: Season 1Global like , a week long donation campaign for World Relief Durham; Season 2-Artsy as Ever, A presentation on the Black Arts Movement and the power of spoken word followed by a spoken word write & share activity; Season 3- Whole Lotta HBCU, an Instagram story series where we played an interactive game of Guess that HBCU; Season 4- Lowkey CEO, a simulated game of Shark Tank to encourage Black entrepreneurship and investing; and for our finale, Season 5: Girl

Talk, a dialogue on mental health and ways to face the daily struggles as a Black woman

For their Fall Skee Week, IM Sorors planned an exciting series of events under the theme IM Affirmed to spread the spirit of uplifting oneself and valuing one's experiences Our events included IM Wealthy, a budgeting workshop; IM Aware, a social media campaign educating our followers on Durham Black history; IM Speaks: A Discussion on climate Change and our Planetary Limits; IMatter: A Toast to

Black Women; and IM Heard, a tabling event where we played Durham Black history trivia

IM Sorors hosted another week of programming dedicated to Mental Health Awareness During this week, we posted a social media resource guide full of on campus, off campus, and virtual resources We also printed out affirmations and put them up around campus to give Duke's community motivation throughout the week Next we hosted The IMportance

Intersectionality: Mental Health for all, an event that shared how to support the mental health of members of the LGBTQIA+ community The following day, we gave back to our kitchen staff for all of their by surprising them with breakfast Then we tabled and had students write notes to themselves about how they can practice self-love Lastly, the sisters of the Iota Mu attended a football game together to bond, spend time outside, and check in with one another

SERVICE TO ALL MANKIND: HIGHLIGHTS

Despite limitations due to COVID-19, Iota Mu Sorors remained supreme in service by strongly closing out AKA's former national program, #CAP They successfully implemented our new national programs, Youth Leadership Institute and Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack in partnership with Alpha Zeta Omega

The ladies of Iota Mu attended Apex High School’s Block Party/Black History Month Celebration to share more about our illustrious organization with our sister chapter, Alpha Chi!

This holiday-themed event was an opportunity for Sorors and attendees to write cards for children staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham and enjoy some hot chocolate The cards included affirming notes to lift the spirits of the children during the holiday season, as a reminder that they are loved and strong.

This past year, Iota Mu engaged in a consistent effort to mitigate the hunger crisis in Durham Sorors frequently partnered with Root Causes to package individual grocery kits and deliver them in the Durham community They also participated in Servants with a Heart Meal packaging event

IM also consistently contributed to the efforts of the Durham Diaper Bank throughout the Spring semester through donating baby care materials and making menstrual cycle kits

OUR INVOLVEMENT

IM had the honor of enjoying lunch with former Supreme Basileus, Glenda Glover, and former Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Jennifer King Congleton, during their visit to Durham!

In March, IM Sorors traveled to Hampton, Virgina to represent the Chapter at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. The ladies had a fantastic time engaging in fellowship and celebrating our sisterhood!

At the end of Spring 2022, the Iota Mu Chapter's programming and high campus & community involvement was recognized through it's earning of Chapter of Year at Duke's Spotlight Celebration Awards!

Sorors Kelyce and Reagan had a great time representing the Iota Mu Chapter at the 2022 Boule! The ladies attended forums and panels while handling the business of the Sorority!

INTRODUCING SPRING 2022: THE NEXUSES OF EBAN

Nasya Bernard-Lucien is a senior, from Pompano Beach, FL, majoring in Neuroscience. She’ll be returning for her third year as a research assistant for the Sanford School of Public Policy and for the Duke Pediatric Rheumatology Health Center. She’s also a student manager for Duke’s football team. This past summer, Nasya was in Kenya with Duke Engage: Wiser teaching girls about art, reproductive health, and physics applications in the real world, while conducting field research on local water quality. This school year, she i serving as NPHC’s 2nd Vice President. In her free time, Nasya loves to create new art pieces and write.

Alexis Williamson is a senior from Savannah, Georgia. She is majoring in Political Science, minoring in African/African American Studies, and working towards the Markets and Management Certificate. At Duke she has served as a Presidential Ambassador (program formerly known as Dukes and Duchesses), as an undergraduate representative on a Board of Trustees Task Force for Duke’s Centennial Celebration, and as Chair of the Young Trustee Nominating Committee. This school year she is serving as CoPresident of the Duke Sports Business Conference and working as an intern in the recruiting office of Duke Football. In her free time, she like to listen to play piano and read for pleasure.

Jasmine Daniel is a senior from Howard County, Maryland and is majoring in Psychology and Global Health. She is a co-chair for Duke NAACP’s Education & Healthcare Committees and a researcher with the Bass Connections team, Strengthening Partnerships between Durham and Local Universities. As a Broadhead Fellow this past summer, she was doing research to address the burden of COVID-19 on Durham families’ mental health. This past fall, she was a teaching fellow for Pyschology 101, a peer health coach, and a dancer with Defining Movement and StreetMed. In her free time, Jasmine enjoys drinking coffee with her family, journaling, and spending time outside.

Nya Prejean is a junior studying biology and cultural anthropology from Augusta, GA. She is the Director of Programming for Black Student Alliance. This past summer, She worked as a bartender and event designer and planner. What she enjoys working on her 2D animation short and planning events for BSA.

Stephanie Green is from Southfield, Michigan and just graduated with a B.A. in Public Policy and a minor in Global Health. At Duke, she was Co-President of the Duke Chapter of the NAACP, Director of Programming for Black Women’s Union, researched with Bass Connections, and worked with Intramural Sports and ARAC. She is now working as a Systems Engineer in Chicago while working on completing a Masters in Data Science. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys making TikToks, going to Pilates, and trying new restaurants.

Kamryn Stafford is a senior from Farmington Hills, Michigan, double majoring in Dance and Global Health with a Chemistry minor on the pre-PA track. While attending Duke, she spends her time dancing with Streetmed and Nakisai, planning events for the Mitchell-White House, and volunteering with the Duke Chapter of Ballet & Books. This past summer Kamryn was in Durham researching the equity gap of cancer treatment in China with the Duke Data plus program and interning virtually with the Michigan Public Health Institute. In addition, she was working with the Duke Sexual and Gender Minority Health Program and as a Student Ambassador at the Duke Gardens! In her free time, Kamryn loves to try new restaurants, work out, and spend time with her friends and family.

Morgan is a senior majoring in Economics with a finance concentration. This past summer, Morgan was traveling the West Coast while working at Amazon Work Space. In her downtime, she runs her nonprofit, The Empowerment Hub, which serves 200+ K-12 students across the country.

Congratulations Class of 2022

Sarah Simmons graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with minors in Biology and Chemistry. Highlights of her Duke experience include being President of the Minority Association for Pre-Medical Students, being an empowerment hub tutor, serving as Vice President of the Iota Mu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc , and being inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society During her time at Duke, she was awarded the opportunity to be on the Bass Connections team: Impacts of Collaborative Learning in STEM, where she studied how implementing collaborative learning into classrooms affects minorities and their retention within STEM majors. One of Sarah’s most cherished experiences while at Duke was presenting her research on the impacts of telemedicine on minority communities at the national conference for the American College of Rheumatology Sarah moved to Houston to start her new career as a high school chemistry teacher through Teach for America while also preparing to apply for Medical School

Lexi received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in Cultural Anthropology She graduated with distinction for her thesis, “The Longitudinal Assessment of Kinetics and Thermodynamics in Organic Chemistry,” which was an interdisciplinary analysis in Chemistry and Education analyzing how students understand certain organic chemistry concepts. During her time at Duke, she served as a Resident Assistant, Duke Presidential Ambassador, Vice President of Nakisai African Dance Ensemble, and President of the Iota Mu chapter. After graduation, she stayed in Durham, NC to work with Burt’s Bees a part of the R&D Product Development team.

Clarke earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with minors in Chemistry and African & African American Studies. She graduated with distinction for her thesis titled “Behind the Curtain of Competency: Assessing the Racial Colorblindness and Cultural Competency of Pre-Medical Students.“ At Duke, Clarke served as a Resident’s Assistant, a Research Assistant at the Samuel Dubois Cook Center, Black Student Alliance President, Vice President for NPHC, a Cardea Fellow, a ReImagine Medicine fellow, and a tour guide. She also had the honor of being a part of Presidents Council on Black Affairs and the Young Trustee Nominating Committee. She now works as a Healthcare Consultant with Huron Consulting Firm in Washington, DC before pursuing an law degree.

Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy with a minor in Global Health Highlights of her Duke experience include being Co-President of the Duke NAACP, Programming Chair for Black Women’s Union, working for Intramural Sports, and volunteering with America Reads and Counts. She also conducted research on two Bass Connections Teams; on her first project she analyzed health care access and social networks while traveling to rural Madagascar, while most recently she researched social care resources for housing insecure children in North Carolina. Throughout her years, she cultivated her passion for health and educational equity. She works as a Systems Engineer for McMaster-Carr in Chicago and is pursuing a graduate degree in data science.
