While there are no adequate words, but we share with you the eloquent and wise words of “GB” in this time of great sorrow and extend our best wishes to everyone for the better days still to come. *************************************************************************************************************************************** A family in Carlsbad that lost their dream home in the San Diego area fires this week found something in the rubble that they never expected: a letter of hope left by a total stranger encouraging the family not to give up and to rise from the ashes. The piece of paper – 189 words signed only with the letters “GB” – was anonymously left behind, taped to a shovel standing in the charred front yard of a home reduced to rubble.

“ We cannot escape the tragedies that arise in our lives. We can search for a reason and ask – why? Maybe we could hold others at fault or imagine what life would be had this not happened, but perhaps what defines our character is not our struggles but how well we meet them and rise up after getting knocked down.

Faith will overcome fears, doubt and insecurities. Sometimes in life we don't recognize how strong we actually are until we are faced with a great tragedy in our life. This calamity we face today will help develop the strength and fortitude we need for tomorrow.

Losing everything we own is sad, but the things we own do not diminish who we are inside. Sometimes the worst situation brings out the best in us and others.

Guild Mortgage Corner How to get more buying power with a Jumbo loan Do you live in an area with high housing costs, or are you in the market for a luxury home? You may need a Jumbo loan. A Jumbo loan is considered to be non-conforming because the loan amount is higher than the county loan limits set by the FHFA. To understand what a Jumbo loan is and involves here are some key points to know:

How can I find out the loan limits for my county?

In 2019, the maximum loan limit for most counties in the U.S. is $484,350. However, in states like Hawaii or Alaska, the conforming loan limit is much higher. Each county has its own loan limit. Please contact the Rice team to know your county’s specific limit.

What kind of credit score do I need to qualify?

Jumbo loans commonly require excellent credit scores, a score of 700 or higher is ideal. Borrowers typically also have a good credit history, meaning they make timely payments and maintain low or zero balance on credit cards.

Do I have to put down a large down payment?

You don’t necessarily need a large down payment to qualify. With excellent credit, some lenders offer financing for as little as 5% down, depending on the property. If you put less than 20% down, whether or not you’ll need to pay mortgage insurance is up to the lender.

Are Jumbo loans only fixed-rate loans?

Jumbo loans are available in different fixed-rate loan terms and as adjustable-rate mortgages.

Are loan rates for Jumbo mortgages higher than conforming loans?

Depending on the loan term and whether you get a fixed- or adjustable-rate mortgage, the interest rate and annual percentage rate will vary.

Are these loans only available for single-family homes?

Jumbo loans are available for all types of homes, including single-family homes, 2-4 unit residences, condominiums and planned unit developments (PUDs). They are also available for purchase or refinance.

14 Simple Strategies For Consumers To Avoid Cybercrime

In the past, many consumers considered that only businesses would be at risk of cybercrime. However, today's cybercriminals target both businesses and individuals without restraint. Each time you log on to the internet or use some form of connected banking, you are exposing yourself to potential cybercrime.

So how can an individual defend against the ever-present threat of cybercrime? What dos and don’ts should consumers follow every time they go online? To help answer these questions, we consulted with 14 members of Forbes Technology Council for a few simple strategies to help consumers protect themselves from the exploits of cybercriminals.

1. Always Check The Source I would recommend to check sources of the information -- sites, email senders, those small green or red buttons browsers and email clients are showing to users. If your relative John writes you he needs some money, just check the "From" field of the email. If you find a good website with a weight-loss super recipe, just check the website URL. You might find a lot of interesting and alarming info there.

2. Don't Share Everything While it's fun to share, it's a good idea to minimize where you put information related to your address, birth date and other personal data. Also, don't share pictures of certain things that might lead criminals to think you have money that they can steal.

3. Be A Skeptical Consumer Anything related to money needs extra focus from you. Make sure you’re properly protected, and the place you’re investing your money and time into will not end up hurting you later on.

4. Use A Password Manager Using a password manager that can generate unique passwords for each website that requires one will greatly reduce an individual's attack surface.

Password reuse on multiple sites makes it easier for attackers to compromise more consumer services using just one password.

5. Use Long-Tail, Random Phrase Passwords Consumers need to be educated on best practices for creating secure passwords, as well as how hackers attempt to access password data. Brute-force attacks are considered the most effective and quickest way for hackers to guess passwords. Longtail, random phrases with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols are the best way to prevent password vulnerability.

6. Enable Two-Factor Authentication Since everyone carries a smartphone with them, two-factor authentication should be standard practice for all the important accounts you have. If login information gets stolen from the source, no password will be strong enough to prevent someone logging in. Two-factor authentication (2FA) could save you, since it will ask for a second step of verification that an attacker shouldn't have.

7. Lock Down Social Media Profiles Many users may not realize it, but cybercriminals are using social media profiles to get sensitive information. For instance, they could look at your family members and discover your mother's maiden name and that photo you posted of your pet that includes their name to get your answers for common security questions. Go through your settings and lock down your social media profiles.

8. Never Use Public Wi-Fi Without A VPN Research has shown most of us connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots in hotels, coffee shops, airports and more, without stopping to consider the security ramifications. Keep your data and identity safe by always using a virtual private network (VPN) when connecting outside your home or office. A VPN is easy to use, even for non-techies, and not overly expensive. The protection it offers is invaluable.

9. Be Aware Of Your Surroundings I’m sure as a child you were taught to look both ways when crossing the street. Having situational awareness is as important when you’re on the superhighway of the internet as it is when crossing the street in the real world. Real-world lessons transfer to the digital world. Don’t share your passwords and don’t click links from strangers. You won’t get rewarded if you give out your bank account.

10. Think Before You Do Anything Digital The one tip that I would suggest to every consumer is to think before you act, for everything digital. Before doing anything -think about whether it makes sense. When you're not sure, ask (or search the web)! In the same way that we educate our children about physical safety, we have to educate them and ourselves about digital safety, and then apply that knowledge to think critically.

11. Set Up Account Alerts The threat of cybercrime is all too tangible these days. Everyone is at risk. One simple way to protect yourself and your finances is to turn on fraud protection notifications for

all of your credit cards and financial accounts. When you set up account alerts that flag suspicious transactions, it’s easier for you to act early and stop potential cybercrime before it balloons into a bigger problem.

12. Remove Your Info From Major Data Brokers If you Google your name right now, chances are you'll find websites exposing your home address, phone number, email and even relatives' names. They're listed by data brokers, which collect your data without your consent, and are prime targets for identity thieves and hackers. Luckily you can opt out and request they remove your info.

13. Protect Your Children Cybercriminals view children as soft targets to gain access to personal networks.

Protect and educate your children on how to avoid being attacked. Protect by locking down devices, using kid-friendly browsers and, if possible, having dedicated devices.

Educate on avoiding downloading apps, direct messaging and linking on unknown sources.

14. Focus On Risk Mitigation, Not Just Prevention It’s important for consumers to assume that their credentials, credit card information and other personal details have already been compromised and focus on mitigating the effects. A key part of this mindset calls for monitoring online accounts and banking accounts for signs of malicious activity so that damage can be stopped as soon as possible.

Holiday stress is tough for many people, but often for many different reasons. The festive season may be made even worse for people that suffer from higher levels of anxiety and stress on a daily basis.

According to WebMD: Experts say that the holidays can make people feel out of control.

We feel at the mercy of our relatives or steamrolled by the sheer force of family tradition.

THERE IS PLENTY THAT YOU CAN DO NOW TO HELP EASE YOUR FUTURE HOLIDAY STRESS. LISTED BELOW ARE 6 OF THE BEST TIPS TO EASE HOLIDAY STRESS:

Often we go nuts trying to please everyone during the holiday season. Instead of trying to do everything perfectly, take care of yourself by saying “no” to a party or two.

Plumas National Forest Christmas Tree Permits Available Plumas National Forest Christmas tree cutting permits-by-mail are available now and walk-in permits may be purchased at ranger district offices beginning Nov. 1.

Walk-in permits are available through Dec. 24 while permits-by-mail must be received by Dec. 2 to ensure timely delivery. Trees may be cut through the end of December.

Permits are $10 and include a map of tree cutting areas, as well as safety information and helpful tips. Two permits are allowed per household; please read the instructions on your permit carefully! There are no refunds.

Forest Service offices are open on Friday, Nov. 29 (the day after Thanksgiving), Saturday Nov. 30, Saturday Dec. 7, and Saturday Dec. 14. Offices are closed on Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and weekends except for those noted above.

Because cutting areas may be quickly limited by snow, dress warmly and plan to get your tree early. Cell phone coverage may be scarce in remote areas so make sure you’ve planned ahead for contingences like flat tires and being stuck on a cold, muddy roads. Let someone know where you are going and leave them a map, plus pertinent phone numbers and a description of your vehicle.

December got its name from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) because it was originally the tenth month of the year in the calendar of Romulus c. 750 bc which began in March.

The winter days following December were not included as part of any month. Later, the months of January and February were created out of the monthless period and added to the beginning of the calendar, but December retained its name.
