Talk of economic uncertainty has continued to dominate the airwaves and column inches since we last gathered for the Asian-Jewish Business Network’s flagship event, while rising mortgage rates and the spiralling cost of living have brought the downturn home to millions in immediate and often life-changing ways.
As we gather today at the Business Design Centre, however, glimmers of light are starting to emerge. Inflation is down, pay is up and the Bank of England wrong-footed many a pundit by not hiking interest rates for the first time in nearly two years. The days of rock bottom mortgage rates of recent decades may be long gone but dare we dream that relief for homeowners could be round the corner? So many now believe.
But Business remains slow and tough for many. We hope that the shoots of recovery will flourish into tangible benefits for our members and that by the time we meet again in 2024 this intensely challenging period is a distant memory. It is wonderful to welcome so many AJBN first-timers here today; we
hope that you’ll mingle, build new contacts and ultimately do business.
