Project Manager Academy/FTBA Conference
Project Manager Academy
Chicago, IL – FMI Institute held their Project Manager Academy from April 17 - 20, 2018, at the Marriott Chicago O’Hare. Throughout the four-day course, Asphalt Superintendent Brian Pittman from Tampa and Project Manager Clay Cross from Fort Myers were able to take part in a wide range of presentations and discussions including: Profitable customer relationship development Powerful, integrated project teams Financial control of your projects Planning projects for profits and customer satisfaction Each module was delivered by a different person with varying professional backgrounds and construction experience. The class consisted of sixteen total attendees from New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, Utah, and Florida. Even though each of the attendees came from different trades, we were all able to relate and share valuable information that benefitted each other. The experience itself strengthens our professional development and will make us more efficient managers.

2019 FTBA Construction Conference
On January 24, 2019, Mike Horan received correspondence from Richard M. Hewitt, P.E., State Construction Pavement Engineer, from the Florida Department of Transportation in Deland regarding the Ajax speakers at the 2019 FTBA Construction Conference held in Orlando on January 17 - 18 as follows:
Andy Decraene Area Manager

Matt Desotell Project Manager I want to thank Ajax Paving for providing speakers for the 2019 FTBA Construction Conference - Asphalt Sessions and Concrete Paving Session. During the Asphalt Sessions, Matt Desotell provided a very informative presentation on Ajax Paving’s use of 3D Models and Automated Machine Guidance for asphalt paving. During the Concrete Paving Session, Andy Decraene also provided a very informative presentation on Ajax Paving’s use of 3D Models and Automated Machine Guidance for concrete paving. Both Matt and Andy delivered very professional presentations that provided a great deal of valuable information as they discussed how Ajax Paving implemented the 3D Models and Automated Machine Guidance technologies to increase construction efficiencies and increase the quality of the constructed pavements. Also, please thank Mark Minich who put me in touch with Dann Rawls (Caterpillar) and Laikram “Nars” Narsingh (Vogele/Wirtgen) as both Dann and Nars provided great presentations on new and emerging technologies available on Caterpillar’s and Vogele’s asphalt paving equipment. Last, but not least, thanks for Ajax’s past support of industry events as Felipe Jaramillo of Ajax Paving spoke at a previous FTBA Construction Conference, as well as past FDOT Design Training Expos. Glad we have such progressive contractors interested in advancing new technologies to improve construction quality and reduce project time, as well as, being willing to share that knowledge and experience with the Department, CEI’s, and Construction Industry at large. Thank you very much!
