PROFESSIONAL LEARNING @ AIS On Monday 25 April the Kindergarten and Primary teaching staff participated in a specialised Mathematics' workshop session with renowned Maths guru Rob Vingerhoets. Rob is recognised for his work in making maths accessible to all students. He promoted the use of 'key words' and the importance of engagement and games in developing numeracy competency. The teachers are excited to be implementing Rob's strategies and ideas into their classrooms. A highlight of the session was Rob's NUMBLE game!

INTERNATIONAL DAY COMING TOGETHER Taking the time to celebrate 'who we are', our beliefs and values, and our diverse cultures is an important part of being a global citizen.

International day this year was celebrated through an online ZOOM assembly.

Students volunteered to share about their cultures and home countries during this assembly. We loved having a new parent of AIS, Ms Tam, share her story 'This is Tet' with the school in both English and Vietnamese.

As always, a highlight was coming to school dressed in our traditional clothing.

PYP NEWS - YEAR 1 This Semester the children in Year 1 were inquiring into cooperation and conflict through play, during their Sharing The Planet unit. The children participated in a variety of learning experiences where they were asked to work cooperatively as a group with limited resources. The children discovered along the way that not everyone co-operates, and some actions can cause conflict. After discussing strategies and solving problems along the way the Year 1 children became very caring and principled towards each other and learnt how to independently resolve their own conflicts.

AIS DONATIONS TO LOCAL ORPHANAGE In April we made a connection with a local charity group who run two orphanages, Mai am Tinh Thuong Phuc Lam and Co So Bao Tro Tre Em Thien Than. We donated resources and items our school no longer needed. The items were greatly received, especially the exercise equipment which helped develop their playground.

AIS also donated some used furniture, toys, learning resources and clothes.

Year 6's VNC at Thu Thiem Unique Festival of blowing rice in Dong Van Hội thổi cơm thi ở Đồng Vân

The blowing rice festival originated from the ancient Vietnamese fighting against invaders on the banks of the ancient Day River. The festival of blowing rice contest in Dong Van takes place every five years on the 15th day of the first lunar month.

After learning about the content and meaning of the blowing rice festival in Dong Van, the year 6 students cooked rice and fried eggs. Not only did they add to their knowledge but also mastered some kitchen skills too!

Year 3POR have been learning to measure in metres and centimetres using trundle wheels, measuring tapes and metre rulers.

The students really enjoyed marking out the height and length of dinosaurs and finding out how tall they were in metres and centimetres.

In Lotus, SK children showed interest in exploring the space. We set up the room with some space helmets, space backpacks, a rocket ship and a space station. We also put some posters of different planets for children to choose where their space rocket would land. They were able to use some numbers while playing as they counted backwards from 10 to 0, making big numbers to tell how far the rocket still had to travel to a certain planet. They made connections to the letter sounds that they knew to the planet they wanted to explore. They also used some of the shiny rocks and marbles as part of the rock discoveries when they landed to the planet.
